Breed: Lancashire Heeler

Many thanks to Liz Stannard and her hard working committee for asking me to judge Lancashire Heelers for the first time at this level. I thoroughly enjoyed my day amongst the Heelers and the Heeler people. Firstly, the dogs were of excellent quality throughout and temperaments were excellent. Fronts were good overall and I thought that my principal winners were very worthy. Secondly the atmosphere around the ring was a delight with support for all fellow exhibitors, and generous applause in all classes. It was a happy ring with obvious support for newcomers evident The Heeler people exhibiting under me were courteous whether they won or lost, if all breeds could be like this. I really thoroughly enjoyed my morning in this happy ring. PD 1.THOMAS’S Skipest Winter Blues. Pleasing young dog to start the day with. He pleased for his overall size and substance. Pleasing head with typical expression. Correct shaped eye of good dark colour. Good length of neck into nicely laid shoulders. Well sprung ribs. Well off for bone for a young male with nice tight feet. He just falls away very slightly at the croup but otherwise is a nice shape overall. Would prefer a slightly richer tan for completeness. Overall, a nice promising dog who just needs some time and to learn his job JD 1.HUGHES’S Poolheywood Barney. B/T Nice overall size. Good head of correct proportions. Could have a slightly darker eye to complete the picture. Good neck and Shoulder. Super bone and nice feet. Level topline with good tail set. Could be a fraction shorter overall. Good hindquarters and in super hard condition. Good harsh jacket. Moved well. PGD 1. LAGONEGRO’S LANKEELA KRISTI AND EEYORE. Liver. Nice head of correct proportions although and little more strength in foreface would complete the picture. Good neck and shoulder and well off for bone. Good chest and well ribbed up. For me a little fraction long and just falls away at the croup which detracts from his other virtues. In good condition. Good hind angulation. Moved

well. LD 1. FELSTEAD’S Lankeela You Go Boss At Foveaux JW. Liver dog of quality. Nice head. Good flat skull with correct tapering. Well set eyes of good shape and colour. Nicely carried ears. Good neck and shoulder. Nice topline and well ribbed up. Moved well. Enough behind the tail. Needs to get his new jacket. 2. DIGBY’S Swanndale Man In Brown. Another nice dog of good size and shape. Pleasing overall proportions. Super hind angulation which was very evident on the move. Just not using his ears today and would be better shown to advantage with a little less weight. 3.THOMAS’S Skipest Winter Blues OD. Interesting class to judge with a variety of type present. 1.THWAITE & HAYES’s Ch Ribblespride Crakemoor. This dog really impressed me for his overall size and shape. Very pleasing head of correct proportions. Good flat skull with some width between the ears, which are nicely placed and well carried. Good strength to the muzzle with no evidence of weakness. Correct almond shaped eye of good dark colour. Enough neck into well placed shoulders. Correct front assembly with good bone feet. Well sprung with short muscular loin. Good topline with well set high tail. Plenty behind the tail. Nicely angulated behind. Top Jacket is harsh. Moved very well with drive from the rear. Was very happy to award him the CC in good company. 2.Ch Taigwynion Johnny Boy at Swanndale. Different type to 1 and much to like about him. Very pleasing head of correct proportions. Good eye and expression. Correct ear placement and carriage. This dog has the best of shoulder placements and very pleasing front assembly. Ample bone. Good topline which is retained on the move. Movement is precise and correct. This dog had the richest of tan in the whole entry and his colouring is textbook. He is a little longer cast than the first placed dog and today not carrying as much weight as maybe he can, so this accentuated this. Did not use his tail as much as I am sure he can and so paid the price. A quality dog and one who I can see how he has done a lot of winning. 3. Miss D Leyeside Mister Wilds At Daweslean. Completed a nice trio. VD Two quality males. 1. Ch Foveaux Storm Revoluton. Quality dog who appealed for his overall type and who deserves his title. Nice size and of good proportions throughout. This male has a lovely headpiece and if it wasn’t for a little grey you certainly wouldn’t know his age. Good neck and shoulder. Lovely bone and good tight small feet. Well ribbed up. Good solid topline for his age. Excels in his

hindquarters which are well angulated and very well muscled up. Short coupled with tail on top. To be hypercritical he could be slightly tidier coming towards me. RCC. 2.FAIREST’s Ch Henson Fairest Lad. Another nice male of good type. Super head and expression. Pleasing neck and shoulder. Excellent bone. Not quite the topline of the winner. Good hindquarters. Moved well
