Border Union Agricultural Society 2023

Hound Group Winners 2023

Huge thank you to the society for inviting me to judge my first hound group. Thank you to all the breed judges who sent forward some super dogs making me decisions difficult. I had to be strict with my shortlist and was sorry I couldn’t have more. I would have liked to include the Basenji and Basset Hound.

Shortlisted but not placed were the Afghan Hound, Dachshund St Smooth and the Irish Wolfhound.

Group 1: Rhodesian Ridgeback: Ch Kinabula’s Gucci Bloom (Bitch), Mrs M L Farleigh, what a super feminine bitch she is, but also gives the impression of a strong, muscular and activity. Super head, correct skull with good width. Long neck leading into a well laid shoulder, neat elbows good depth, strong loin, correct tail, she was certainly free and active on the move, delighted to award her the group.

Group 2: Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen: Am Ch M and M's Stellar Mayhem and Madness (Imp Usa) (Dog), Mrs E Cadmore & Ms J Hayes & Mrs D Moore & Mrs S Robertson, `He was close up, he certainly fulfils the criteria, of a well balanced, short legged rough coated compact hound, alert and lively. Only a young chap, but full of quality, loved his head, super neck leading into an excellent front, super overall outline, super mover all round,

Group 3: Long Haired Dachshund: Ch Swansford Gregorydor (Dog), Mr D Roberts, I have awarded this lovely boy a rcc as a youngster, now fully mature he is coming into his own, The handsome of heads, so correct, good front and well ribbed back and good clearance, he too presents a good outline, free flowing on the moved with good length of stride.

Group 4: Beagle: Ch Annavah Princess Tiana (Bitch), Miss L A & Mrs P J Havard, making up the quarter of super hounds, very feminine bitch, she has the most gorgeous expression ,

no wrinkles or frowns here. Long neck leading into a well laid shoulder and return of upper arm, good depth of chest, she certainly was easy and graceful on the moved with reach and drive.
