Border Union Agricultural Society

Breed: Dachshund (Miniature Smooth Haired)

Many thanks to the exhibitors for entering and my trusty stewards Ian and Pauline who helped to keep the ring running smoothly. Not an easy breed to judge at the moment as so many lack many of the breed typical qualities, especially in front construction where the wrap around front and correct crook is lacking in many and so many have short upper arms. Less were too low to ground which was pleasing to see. Movement overall is not good with many looking good stacked but falling apart on the move. Dirty teeth were prevalent which is something so easily remedied. Judging to type was very difficult with what was present today but my main winners stood away for overall quality.

1ST Bronia Gervais (Mrs F Hanney-Mitchell)

6 month old shaded red baby with a good head and eye shape, enough neck leading into well angulated shoulders. Compact body and super rear which he used to advantage on the move. Obviously needs to tighten as I’d expect at this age but promising prospect. Pleased to award him BPIB.

2ND Jenivons Bad Habits (Miss J Jennings)

Lovely headed red with and excellent length of neck and well laid back shoulder. Would prefer a longer upper arm and longer ribbing. Balanced rear which he uses well on the move where he is true and sound.

Shaded red of a good type with an excellent head, lengthy neck leading into good shoulders. Decent ribbing with correct 2:1 ratio between length of body and height at withers. Needs to settle on move but this should come with age.

2ND Mumysami You’re All I Need (Mrs D Holmes)

Lovely head and neck, good size, balanced angulation front and rear and held a good topline both stacked and on the move. Rather loose on the move today but with time should tighten up.

Loved this 8yr old red brindle male who is such a lovely type. Lovely head, lengthy neck leading into well angulated shoulders. Long ribbing and well balanced rear. Had a tendency to bunny hop on the grass at times but when he settled he had true parallel movement and covered the ground with ease. Very much my cup of tea and couldn’t be denied the RCC today.
