I would like to thank the Eastern Counties Golden Retriever Club committee for the invitation to judge their dogs today, they are an impressive committee working well together to put on an excellent show. My two stewards were Lindsey Maynard and Alison Manton, my grateful thanks go to them both. I was very pleased with my entry, thank you to the exhibitors, most of my classes headed by dogs straight out of the top drawer.

1st Kloek Miss ECM MESSANO YIN OR YANG SGWC A very heavily coated 10 year old male, moved soundly but certainly not dressed for today’s heat. He has the most lovely head and expression. Strongly made throughout. Handled well.

1st Towers Mrs S & Henderson Mrs M CH ALIBREN GALILEO TO WESTERVANE JW SGWC This veteran has a stunning outline, hardly a surprise as he is so well constructed. He headed a very good veteran class with his lovely head and eye, straightest of fronts with excellent bone, stands four square on neat tidy feet with a good length of leg, he looks a strong dog. He has a long stride and I think would probably take a faster pace on the move to advantage, but he is true and sound and I like him a lot.

2nd Gerhold Mrs J SH CH JAYMARDY INDIGO PACIFIC JW Super dog in a beautiful coat, he is stylish and his handler makes the best of him. Covers the ground well, a very worthy champion.

1st Angell Ms BA LINIRGOR SEVEN UP AT MILLANZA Plenty of coat on this 7 month old puppy. He has the most beautiful head, soft gentle expression with a kind dark eye. He is just a little bit high on the quarters a perfectly normal growth phase for this promising young chap.

2nd Golder Mrs SC & Mr GS WILD KISSES WITH SUMMERAMBA OF SUNSHINE'S VALLEY (IMP BEL) NAF This puppy is probably at a better growth phase than his class mate but his lack of co-operation with his handler cost him the class.

1st O'Neill Mrs L STRATHLON ISLAND LAD A full coated blonde dog of good proportions. I loved his head, well shaped and masculine without any coarseness. Darkest of pigmentation and correct bite. Level topline and correct tail set, straight front and strong quarters. He moved and was handled to full advantage.

2nd Keightley Mrs GA RICHANA ROCKET MAN A quality young dog, has all the essentials, he was beautifully handled and presented in good order.

1st Black Mrs A & Mr I BENCOE JUST IN TIME DEL AVRAIN This dog is maturing into a real cracker. I love in particular his beautiful head, and clean muscular neck, I hate to see a throaty dog, but there is no sign of that here, his set on of neck is perfect leading into well laid shoulders on top of a beautiful forehand. Level topline, well held on the move, good ribs and plenty of heart room. His elbows are close fitting and his front movement true. Strong quarters drive him effortlessly around the ring.

1st Golder Mrs SC & Mr GS WILD KISSES WITH SUMMERAMBA OF SUNSHINE'S VALLEY (IMP BEL) NAF Eventually after several classes this well made puppy was sufficiently settled to show off his qualities. He is very well angulated, good shoulder lay, excellent quarters with well bent stifles. Good width of quarters. Moved soundly.

2nd Kirkup Dr SE & Highman Mr AP COLDHARBOUR CANDY CANE A very soft expression on this young chap. Still quite immature in his development, good level topline well held on the move, he is short coupled and stands well on good feet. Has the most glorious coat, which was presented well.

1st Fleet Mrs MA & Webb Mrs S WATERBABIES SONIC BOOM TO EASTBURY AND HECTSON (IMP ITA) The first thing to appreciate is the superb forehand on this juvenile. Gorgeous head, his conformation is outstanding but he really needs to get his act together when he has the potential to trouble the best.

2nd Taylor Mr P LAURENLEY LEON A very handsome dog, he has an excellent coat, level topline. Moved with drive despite the heat.

1st Bolton Mr RC & Mrs J MEGARVEY STILL GAME FOR SHIRESMILL JW This dog made a huge impression on me, I considered him for top honours. First of all he looked glorious in the sunshine, beautiful gold coat presented to perfection. His head is all male but so very gentle with a kind dark eye. Correct bite, good reach of neck onto a level topline with perfect tail set well carried on the move. Well developed forechest, with a straight front, well laid shoulders. He has good ribs, plenty of heart room. Didn’t put a foot wrong on the move, he looked an absolute picture.

2nd Gerhold Mrs J NAVILIS VIVAT VIVALDI (IMP UKR) JW A strongly made dog, beautifully presented and handled to advantage. Neat in all respects very sound and free on the move getting quickly into his stride. This was a very good class.

Short coupled and well bent stifles, strong hocks giving him good drive. Much to like about this chap, he has an outstanding frame which he still needs time to fill, will watch his future with interest. Moved extremely well.

2nd Foreman Mr G & Mrs T AMBERSUN HEART AND SOUL Well developed chest on this dog with correct upper arm and good shoulder lay. Equally as well made in his quarters. Handsome in all respects, dark pigmentation a very soft expression.

1st Towers Mrs S & Henderson Mrs M ALIBREN BAKER'S BOY This was my star of the day, a new one to me, he caught my eye as soon as he came into the ring. A double blonde coat prepared to perfection, a great attitude shines through. I loved his head, good reach of neck flowing onto a dead level topline and a perfect tail set. He has a good width of quarters and second thigh, his strong hocks were used to full advantage, taking him around the ring with purpose. He has a good length of leg, well sprung ribs and a good underline. His outline is balanced, and his handler showed him to full advantage. Well done on your success today, he looked a picture and I was delighted to award him the CC he later went Best In Show with my co-judges agreement.

2nd Clarkson Mrs FM DRUMKILTY QUEST FOR STARDOM (RE IMP) A top quality dog with all the essentials. Short coupled, balanced in outline. Not the width of thigh of my winner.

1st Kipps Mr G & Mrs L SH CH CADWST FLASH FLAME TO WHEATCROFT One of the best movers of the day. His stride is long and free. It is not just that he moves effortlessly, with perfect drive from his strong quarters but that he carries his head perfectly with pride to be doing a good job for his handler without his tail rising any higher than his dead level topline. Absolutely text book movement and carriage. So often you see a dog move with drive but their head is down as if they really are doing a task they don’t relish, the breed is required to be biddable so if asked to move they really should respond with "good! lets go, I love doing anything with you." I was pleased to award him the Reserve CC

2nd Bawden MBE Miss CL SH CH BALSAMINA BEACHCOMBER AT DARTHILL JW This very worthy champion looked a picture today. In full cream coat presented to perfection. The most adorable head and expression. Stood on well shaped feet, great bone and superb angulation throughout. Short coupled and deep in his chest with plenty of heart room. Handled well, moved correctly but like many today found the weather a little too much.
