GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG

Judge: Mrs Heather C Corkin (Fouranfass)

Many thanks to the society for their invitation to judge at this show, and to my two stewards who worked so well organising the ring and paperwork for me.

I was grateful for such a quality entry of dogs and bitches, and must thank the exhibitors, handlers and owners, not only for their entry but also for their exemplary conduct, and accepting my decisions gracefully. I hope you all enjoyed the day.

I was delighted to stay and watch my Best of Breed winner be placed 3rd in the group under judge Mr K Baldwin. An excellent result for the breed.

Class 1344 PD NO ENTRIES

Class 1345 JD (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: WADE, Mr A & MITCHELL, Miss J, Rico of Julanti

15 month large, richly pigmented black and gold dog with very masculine head. Good shoulder and length of upper arm, but could be slightly better angled. Very good hind angles with clean topline and very good croup. Must not deepen. Would prefer tighter feet and him to be more upright in pastern. Has a tendency to stand with front paws turned out. Moved out well and was very well trained. Retained topline on the move.

2nd: HUGHES, Miss Jackie Barwoods Iago

14 month black and gold dog with very good depth in markings. Masculine head. Good angles front and rear. Lovely topline flowing to a good croup. Correct in front, but also can stand with front paws turned out. On the move, his topline needs time to firm and be maintained on the move. Flies his tail a little.

3rd: 3810 CAVE, Mrs Anne ABSELA RIVER at CASIANN

Class 1346 PGD (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: FARLEY, Mrs Nikki, Nikonis Perez

2 year old well pigmented sable male of very correct size. Masculine head and expression with lively outlook. Can sometimes stand a little close in front. Very good angles front and rear. Croup could be a little longer, but is well angled. Slightly high tailset. Sound away and towards. Lovely firm topline on the move with good reach and drive.

2nd: SWTAN, Mrs Bethan & HUGHES, Mr Darryl, Blanik Lancelot

2.5 year old, large black and gold male. A good head. Lovely high wither with good body type, with clean lines shown in firm condition. Good croup with slightly high tailset. I would prefer firmer pasterns. Moved well with good reach and drive.

3rd: CAVE, Mrs Anne CASIANN ATLAS

Class 1347 LD (5 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: STANLEY, Mrs Rhian, Blanik Kyriacos

3.5 year old large substantial black and gold male with very strong head and good expression. High wither and clean topline. Very good angles front and rear. Croup could be longer. Moved correct away and slightly toes in towards. Moved very well around the ring and retained his topline.

2nd: MCGEEN, Mrs B A, WAKEMATT TRAFFIC

3.5 year old good sized black and gold male with very black head of lovely proportions and expression. Good angles front and rear. On occasion, stood with a slight peak in his overline, leading to a slightly short steep croup and very long tail. Stands correct in front and slightly close behind. Today he did not extend well in our small ring.

3rd: TOWNING, Miss L Zandamor Dax

Class 1348 OD (6 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: LAKIN, Ms M, Blerio Bezique at Mascani

22months richly pigmented male of correct size. Very good head and expression and dark eye. Long reach of neck. Stands well balanced throughout with correctly angled pasterns, giving him an ‘on his toes’ appearance. Commanding attention. Very correct angles front and rear with good body proportions. Flawless topline leading to very correct croup in both length and lay. Moved correct towards and only slightly close away. Moved effortlessly around the ring retaining topline. Shown in amazing coat and condition.

This dog has such a wonderful outlook on life, and exuded elegance, beauty and confidence in spite of his young age. I had no hesitation in awarding him Dog CC and Best of Breed. His quality was further rewarded in the Pastoral group where he attained 3rd place, following another flawless performance. I am sure he will not wait long for his Crowning CC.

2nd: HALL, Miss S & HALL, Mr David, Ch Gayville Vopus

5 year old black and gold male of good size. A very rich red dog. He has the most perfectly proportioned head for me with the gentlest heart melting expression. High wither and slightly compact proportions. Very good angles front and rear. Very good croup. Occasionally when standing could appear a tad close. Retained outline on the move, however could have shown more animation today.

3rd: WILLIAMS, Mr Paul & STARKEY, Ms Claire, Wakematt Morty at Starkwill

Class 1349 VD (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: SMITH, Miss Sarah & SMITH, Mrs Ivylene, Portnall Elrick zu Sarocal Sh.CM

7.5 years substantial sable male. Very good head and melting gentle expression. Very correct angles front and rear. Good length of neck flowed into a correct topline and croup. Tailset could be a little lower, and cleaner. Moved correct away and towards. Moved well around the ring with smooth far reaching gait and good rear drive retaining outline.

I loved his overall balance and was happy to award him RESERVE CC, and later BEST VETERAN.

2nd: LILLEY, Miss J, Kentelv Washington

11 years old richly pigmented Bi-colour dog with pale gold. Beautiful dark eye, with slightly long head and sweet and gentle expression. Greying muzzle. Very good front angles, with level backline. Croup was a little flat and short. Moved well around the ring at the owner’s pace. Very good condition for his age.

Class 1351 PB (4 Entries) Abs: 2

1st: USHERWOOD, Miss Benita, Return Shamrock (BA1)

6 months old very dark black and gold longcoat bitch. Strong but feminine head and expression. Glorious condition with strong bone. Very good angles front and rear with lovely body proportions. Very much a baby and needing to firm. Very good flowing gait around the ring.

2nd: BRETT, Mrs Rowena, Chica Guapa

6 months old very dark black and gold longcoat bitch. Littler sister to No. 1 Feminine pretty girl. Good shoulder and length of upper arm, but could be slightly better angled. Correct development throughout for age. Very good angles front and rear, but croup could be a shade better angled. Also very much a baby and needing to firm throughout.

1st: HARDY, Miss Courtney L & HARDY, Miss Natalie, Barwoods Ivy with Cafotaliena

15 months old black and gold longcoat very feminine bitch of slightly stretched body proportions. Lovely head with lively expression. Good angles front and rear. Correct backline leading to a slightly short and slightly steep croup with a very long tail. Excelled on the move with a lovely free and easy gait, showing plenty reach and drive.

(Second in SBD/B)

3rd: 3838 USHERWOOD, Miss Benita Return Shamrock (BA1)

Class 1353 PGB (7 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: STANLEY, Mrs Rhian, Blanik Liszka

2.5 year old black and gold bitch with lovely head and gentle expression. Very good angles front and rear. Good body shape and clean overline leading to a slightly short croup with a bit of a wave in the hairline. I would prefer more upright pasterns. Moved soundly away and towards with good sidegait around the ring.

2nd: MCGRATH, Mrs Caroline & BOYD, Mr David William, Mascani Denva

(Winner of Special beginners Dog/Bitch)

3rd: BENJAMIN, Mrs B BARWOODS IDA

Class 1354 LB (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: PEGG, Mrs Helen Dahlmann Ulla

2 year old black and rich red bitch of absolute correct size. Feminine and pretty yet strong. For me, another perfectly proportioned head, with a sweet and gentle expression. Very correct angles front and rear with a slightly short croup, but well moulded into a correct tailset. I liked the correct angles of her pasterns and the ‘up on her toes’ attitude in the ring. Moved correctly away and towards with lovely far reaching sidegait, retaining her outline. RESERVE CC

2nd: JONES, Miss K, Norwulf Yuki

3.5 year old large black and gold bitch. Very strong head and expression with quite large ears. Very correct overall angles front and rear with slightly stretched proportions. A clean topline leading to a slightly short croup with a slight wave in the coat. She sometimes dropped her head on the move, and I am sure would benefit from a large ring to show off that good coordinated sidegait.

3rd: 3805 BURTON, Mrs J & BURTON, Mr R P, Burtonharvan Rayeh

Class 1355 OB (5 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: MCCOWLIFF, Mrs L & WINFROW, Mr Andrew, Ch Sadira Rwonda

2.5 year old deep black with gold bitch. Correct size with very good proportions. Good head and expression with slightly large ears. Very good angles front and rear. Good reach of neck leading to a clean overline and very good croup. Moved correct towards and a little close away. Her free flowing sidegait confirmed her beautiful overall correct conformation. Retained backline. Her gleaming dark coat and excellent condition added to the super quality of this girl and the picture she presented in the ring. BITCH CC and Best Opposite Sex

2nd: PLATT, Mrs S, CHARBONNEL TANZI

2.25 years old very strong paler black and gold bitch. Very strong head with large ears. I would prefer a slightly darker eye to be picky. Very good body shape and proportions with good angles front and rear. Slightly flat and short croup. Moved correct away and towards. What a fantastic mover even in this small ring. She just on occasion dropped a tad on the wither.

3rd: KEARNAN, Mrs S, NL Ch Rosebud Daenerys Ir J Ch

Class 1356 VB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: TURNER, Mr I, Tuna Com Mit Tasella

9 year old, large, black and rich tan bitch. Strong yet feminine head with quite large ears. Good lay of shoulder. Upper arm could be better angled but is of good length. Slightly stretched proportions. Short and steep croup. Very sound for her age. She moved freely around the ring but flattened on the wither.
