Large Munsterlander Club

Breed: Large Munsterlander

Large Munsterlander Club June 2023

A huge thank you to the committee for privilege to judge at a club show and the exhibitors for their entries. My ring steward for the day was brilliant and ensured the ring kept flowing. The venue was ideal and gave plenty of room to get the dogs moving. Movement is where I judged the dogs today as HPRs I expect to see and feel dogs that could do a good day’s work.

Exhibits were generally shown in good condition- some would benefit from better muscle tone and stamina, which was shown on the move. Front and rear angulation is something that should be considered by anyone breeding or picking a puppy. Without the correct length and angulation of the front and rear assembly, you cannot accomplish the free long-stringing gait with drive, which is a breed requirement. Type was very mixed and my principle winners oozed that real Munster feel and look.

I would urge exhibitors to think about sportsmanship in and around the ring. Showing is meant to be a hobby, where new and old exhibitors feel relaxed and enjoy their day out. Remember you take the best dog home and each dog is very much loved by their family. It would be lovely to see the breed club look at how they can support in uniting the breed. Without everyone working together, especially in a smaller numerical breed, things can become very tricky. I felt a little of the collaboration and all working for the good of the breed has been lost, which is a great shame especially in a breed so close to my heart.

Minor Puppy Dog (2,2)

Day’s Tarkanya Ritas Reinheart At Alfriston Best front angulation, lovely substance and type. Excellent head with the typical Munster squishy nose. Enough rear angulation. Good width throughout. Lovely overall shape and type. True away and back good tail set. Good topline. Overall lovely balance and shape. Although he still has maturing to do, his drive and front extension came alive in the challenge, he looked like he could work all day. Delighted to award him RCC and BPIS

Evan’s Tarkanya Ritas Reinblanc Litter brother to 1 and shared many of the same comments. Loved his colouring. Just felt he didn’t have the front angulation of 1 but slightly better hind angulation. Lovely neck and good head. Still very raw and needs time to mature and body up. True away and back, kept a strong topline and very well muscled.

Puppy Dog (3,3)

1. Day’s Tarkanya Ritas Reinheart At Alfriston

2. Evan’s Tarkanya Ritas Reinblanc

3. Macgregor Raycris Flame Of Glory. A puppy with overall good balance and type. Just lacked front movement of first two, but lots to like and another with good muscle tone.

Junior Dog (4,4)

Weber’s Caesar Ii Svatoborsky Revir (Cze Imp). Best overall movement of the class. Lovely type. Would like a little more front and rear angulation, but balanced. Good width of thigh and well-muscled. Lovely head with a strong neck. Good coat. Super strong topline and carried tail ok. Good width and body throughout. Lovely springy gait and overall style. Considered for ResCC.

Middleton & Trowsdale’s Elmer Vom Blitzenbach At Amasffoy Good front and rear angulation, would like a little more width when coming and tighter front pasterns. Head ok, more pronounced stop than 1 and slightly broader skill. Coat good and lovely colour.

Prowse’s Quilesta Simply Invincible . Just preferred the overall picture and balance, but close between 1 and 2. Head ok. Good neck and shoulders. Good overall size, Good reach and rear drive. Lovely type. Moved away and back true. Would benefit from further settling and ring training.

Loved his type, size and overall picture just giving his handler a tricky time today and not behaving. Hopefully as his confidence in other dogs improves, he settles and is able to show all his merits fully in a calm purposeful manner. One that should do well but placing today reflected behaviour.

Open Dog (6,6)

MacGregor Sh Ch Ekkolander Snowstorm Best overall picture of the boys today. Good profile movement. Good head and neck . Super topline. Tight feet. True away and back- carried tail a little high. Coat coming and will finish her look. Good neck, well ribbed and good loin. Carries herself with grace and style. Effortless movement. True away and back – but does need sometimes to settle when coming. Excellent front extension and rear drive in profile, giving that typical Munster flowing, purposeful springy movement. Miller’s Ekkolander Dark Russian Von Rockfest What can I say, my find of the day! The minute she entered the ring all I could see was her effortless movement, stunning type and shape. So balanced with substance yet still feminine. Good head, best of necks which flows into super shoulders. Best front and rear angulation of the day. Enough coat, which was gleaming. She just ate up the ground and made everything look easy. Delighted to award her the CC (which I was told later was her 3rd) and BIS.

Open (2,2)

Both lovely girls who are very worthy of their titles and pushed hard. Also must mention both handlers who ensured their exhibits are presented beautifully and shown to perfection- great relationship and ensured they are stood and moved just right.

Wilkins’ Sh Ch Quilesta Simply Exquisite Just preferred her rear angulation over 1 today. Less flashy on the move than 2 but covered the ground well. For me her head could be a little more feminine. Good body and type. She is a delighted to go over and loved her shape and balanced picture. Considered for Res CC just lacked spring of PG.

Logie’s Sh Ch Albadhu Pawsitive Vibes Jw Lovely head and front assembly. Excellent topline, good body and shown in top condition. Good spring of rib and width throughout. Loved her type. Moved with real style and covered the ground well well, just not the workmanship I’d like today, which comes from rear drive. Good coat with excellent shine. Good muscle tone.

Simpson’s Ekkolander Persephone Red At Leriton Moved round with ease. True away just not as tight coming back. Superb strong topline. Good overall picture- left jacket behind today. Nice head lovely neck good front and rear angulation. She still has filling out to do, but shown in hard condition. Overall very nice would suggest roadwork just to tighten front.
