Italian Greyhounds

I thoroughly enjoyed giving CC s for the first time in Italian Greyhounds and would like to thank all the exhibitors for their support. I was thrilled with my entry of 39 with a few absentees on the day.

I think my judging decisions were of great interest to some as lots of feedback afterwards, good and bad but mainly good. It seems that there are some very different types in the show ring maybe due to imported dogs but I was judging to my interpretation of the UK standard and the dog on the day.

I felt that some exaggeration has crept into the breed in the way of weaker crouched rears and size. I was particularly looking for an elegant dog that appeared to be fit enough for everyday life as well as in the show ring. The RKC reminds us that any breed should be fit for function and soundness is essential so unsound limbs were severely penalized. As far as movement goes I would like to have seen more lift and flection so typical of the breed.

I did see ewe necks, untypical heads, a total lack of depth of chest, cat feet and gay tails. Mouths were excellent with one slight exception. I do not believe in upsetting exhibitors with unkind comments so my critique will mention none of these even if they were present. They were of course taken into account when deciding my placings.

1st Gaefs Gails at Russiatree (Mr D & Mrs J Owens). 7 month old blue pup with a white trim. Best when settled, and did enough to show some potential. Masculine with neat ears, arched over loin and strong enough rear for his age. Correct length of body and hare feet. BPD

1st Salatini Supremo (Miss N Hunter) Fawn dog with large expressive eyes, correct slope of shoulders and a narrow front. Good strong bone and pasterns with sound hocks. Long neck running into a shapely body. Very sound fore and aft on the move with drive from behind.

1st Tamiskene Hamilton (Mrs G D Bird) fawn dog with a white trim. My find of the day. A calm and confident young dog with I believe a great future ahead of him. He has a long flat head with neat expressive ears set well back on a long neck leading to correct shoulder placement with his legs well under his body. Good depth of chest and correct height to length ratio. He is very elegant with straight sound limbs supporting him. His topline is perfection with a strong rear which he uses on the move. Very typical of his breed. Pleased to award him his first CC, May there be many more.

2nd Miwell Alex Mcqueen (Ms I Brundtland)Attractive dog with good head qualities and a long neck. He has a slightly arched loin and adequate length of brisket however not quite the soundness of 1.

3rd Laborghini Imperial Spritz (Mrs K & Mr R Greenfield)

1st Skylar's Chico (Miss K Wallace Horne)I Really liked this dog whilst I could acknowledge he was a little on the heavy side in his make and shape. I felt he showed no signs of weakness and had perfect balance which was shown in his confident movement. He has strong bone and pasterns with perfect angulation fore and aft. He stood on good hare feet and had a long tail which he kept low on the move.

2nd Crystaldrift Caerllion (Mrs J Carmody). Needs more confidence but did enough here to earn his place. Large eyes with a delightful expression. Correct width in front with good shoulders. Elegant and sound fore and aft and typical of the breed.

3rd Littlebriton Moon Warrier (Mr R & Miss E Lowe & Guidotti)

1st Newill Keep Toot (Mr D Willcock) very attractive fawn dog who took my eye as soon as he came in the ring. He seems to be able to change the way he holds himself but when correctly standing over a square he was just right and not overdone. He has an exquisite long head with a slight stop, neat ears and a long neck. A hound in miniature, in other words a fit little dog who looked like he could run. His condition was excellent in every way and he had a fine shiny coat. He has great angulation enabling him to move with drive, lift and freedom. RCC

2nd Ch Toerag Little Scamp JW (Miss S M Tiley-Davies) A masculine dog with well muscled thighs unfortunate to meet 1. Elegant head, correct width in front with good bone leading to hare feet. Very sound on the move and in beautiful condition as I would expect from this owner. A worthy Champion.

Sound with correctly sloping shoulders and fine bone. When settled she moved well from all angles. A little large for me but still graceful.

2nd Bartondax Valentine (Ms L Hague)Lovely elegant blue, another fidgety baby in lovely condition. Sound enough but needs to relax. Correct height to length ratio and one to watch.

1st Salatini Statuesque (Miss N Hunter) fawn youngster from the top drawer. Large eyes, long neck, neat ears. Sound all through with correct shoulder placement and turn of stifle behind. Strong sound pasterns leading to hare feet. A little concerned in this noisy hall but did enough to show herself off on the move and to take the RCC.

2nd Loweroak Escape The Gossip (Mrs D & Mr G W & Mr G L Bailey). Lovely head with neat ears and very typical all through just not as sound on the move as 1.

3rd Minitopo Mila (Mrs H & Ms T Mack & Risica)

2nd Salatini Rose Gold (Miss N Hunter) very sound and elegant fawn bitch with a stunning head. Correct size, balanced outline with plenty of attractive curves. All the essentials. Moved steadily and well with lift.

1st Ch Littlebriton Winter Is Here (Miss J E Doherty) a lovely pied bitch I have judged before. A little older but still very sound with the correct curve of topline over the loin and a good underline. No exaggerations with the correct slope of shoulder to give lift on the move, moved out well on fine limbs with muscled thighs and a long tail.

2nd Toerag Love and Joy (Miss S M Tiley-Davies) beautiful and elegant example of the breed in great condition with the best of coats. Lovely outline when relaxed with excellent shoulders to fine bone. Well turned stifles and low hocks. Moved well.

3rd Artmeis Three Card Trick (Mrs J B & Miss H Amsel & Rishworth)

Veteran Bitch

1st Anjuskar Zenyatta (Mrs S Dunning) such a sound bitch of seven going on eight years. Scored on head properties, expressive ears and large eyes with such an appealing expression. As in previous classes I wanted a very sound, fit IG with straight limbs and a super outline when relaxed. Lift was also important. I found it all in this bitch complete with hare feet. BCC.

2nd Ch Florita Tueletta (Miss H M Lister)Not the shoulders of 1 and finer. Lovely head and length of body and sound enough all through. Moved round well keeping her tail down.

Special Beginners Bitch

Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

1st Cervabello Delfina (Miss J Brownley) Sweet little 7 month old blue bitch but on the petite side for me. She had an exceptional outline when stacked showing lovely curves over her loin and underline with good rear angulation. Very feminine all through with a shapely head and large eyes.

2nd Littlebriton Paper Moon (Mrs Sl Read) More mature than 1 but somewhat on the large side. Balanced and sound enough but a bit masculine and 1 had the better front with straighter limbs.

3rd Raising Venus Du Zephyr De Bizance (Mrs C Pendlebury)
