Northern Counties American Cocker Spaniel Club

Breed: Breed Club Championship Show

It was an absolute honour to be asked to judge at this for my first time awarding CCs in the breed and I thank the committee for their invitation. Thank you to my superb stewards Gillian and Joe for their efficiency overall and aptitude with scissors when it transpired my judge’s book had no perforations! Most of all, thank you to the exhibitors for entering their beautiful dogs and for accepting my decisions with good sportsmanship.

We had a good sized ring but unfortunately the shiny, slippery surface wasn’t liked by a lot of the exhibits nor were the drain covers that moved slightly when the dogs ran over them. This meant that dogs I’d really loved on the table couldn’t be placed as highly as I’d have liked to, which was disappointing.

Minor Puppy Dog (5 entries, 2 absent)

1st & RBPIS Jennings’ Alibama Quintessential

A lovely head with good chiselling, slightly arched neck, a good topline, he is compact with ribs well back and a short line. Well angulated rear. Needs to body up but he was so accurate and positive on the move here, he had to win this class.

2nd. Nelson & Moss’s Nasailleen Condragulations

Loved the head on this boy and he had more substance. He is well constructed all through and has good bone and feet. Correct topline, tail set and carriage. Unfortunately, he hated the floor and just wasn’t moving as I’m sure he can.

3rd. Morris’ Mycalleys Sirocco

Puppy Dog (3 entries, 1 absent)

1st. Dummett’s Nova Story Boogie Woogie NAF TAF

A super head and expression, slightly arched neck and a nicely angulated front. Good topline and a well angulated rear. Moves soundly with good reach and drive.

2nd. Morris’ Mycalleys Sirocco

Smart in outline and he has good width and depth. A little proud of his tail on the move and he didn’t like the floor so wasn’t reaching out in front. In lovely condition.

Open Dog (5 entries, 1 absent)

1st, DCC & BIS Harris’ Zarcrest Hot Chocolate HCW 23

This 4 year old dog is breathtaking. He has a lovely head with plenty of work in it, correct dentition. He has a slightly arched neck into well angulated shoulders and good return of upperarm. He has bone, substance and good width and depth of chest with ribs well back and a short loin. Firm sloping topline and good tail set and carriage. Well angulated, muscular rear. He moves soundly and accurately in all directions and made it look effortless. All these qualities and to top it, his super coat is presented to perfection. I’m sure his title won’t be far away.

2nd. Price’s Encore Jaclee by Mazpet

Another quality dog with a super head. Slightly longer cast than my winner. Good depth and width with ribs well back and a short loin. Correct topline which he held on the move. In tip top condition. Would prefer a touch more front extension on the move but this could well have been because of the flooring.

3rd. Dummett’s Letjashaja Ptitsa Saint Pierre at Almondsbury Imp Rus

Champion Dog (1 entry)

1st, RCC & RBIS Jennings’ Sh Ch Afterglow Bambalam with Alibama JW

Very smart buff with a lovely head and correct dentition. He is compact, balanced and moves well whilst holding his topline. Beautifully presented.

Minor Puppy Bitch (4 entries, 1 absent)

1st. Nelson & Moss’s Nasailleen Ella Vaday

Won this class on her exceptional movement which demonstrated her easy, ground covering stride. Pretty head with good chiselling. Arched neck into well laid shoulders and plenty of upperarm. Good topline/tailset. Well angulated rear and beautifully presented.

2nd. Jennings & Beddings’ Alibama It’s Quizzical

Another very promising puppy who is nicely constructed and in excellent condition. Just not the forward reach of my winner today.

3rd. Stokes’ Jaclee Broadway Madam at Twizeltree

Puppy Bitch (2 entries, 2 absent)

Junior Bitch (0 entries)

Post Graduate Bitch (0 entries)

Limit Bitch (1 entry)

1st, BCC, BOS BPIS & Price’s Jaclee Steel the Show

Only 8 months old so not in her adult coat yet but it meant that everything was there to see. She has a beautiful head with an appealing expression. Good neck into well laid shoulders and a good return of upperarm. She is compact with a firm, sloping topline, ribs well back, short loin and a well angulated rear. She moves accurately in all directions. On the final go around in the bitch challenge, she outmoved everything else there and thus, she had to win the CC.

Open Bitch (4 entries)

1st Dummett’s Almondsbury The Pop Kids JW

Won this class on her movement. A nice head, I’d prefer a cleaner neck but otherwise this is a really nicely put together bitch who moves as her conformation dictates, showing an accurate, easy ground covering action.

2nd. Morris’ Mycalleys China Doll

Initially I thought this smart girl was going to be my winner here. She looked super in profile, balanced, shapely and was beautifully presented. Not quite the reach in front of 1 on the move but otherwise, moved nicely.

3rd Donaldson’s Ir Sh Ch Chicomy’s Rumour Has It CJW22 CW22 CENW JUNCH (Imp Nld)

Champion Bitch (2 entries)

1st & RCC Nelson & Moss’s Sh Ch Nasailleen Bye Felicia

A beautiful bitch that I have admired from the ringside before. She has the prettiest head. She is compact, balanced, so well put together and like all from this kennel, she is presented to perfection. She absolutely hated the floor though, she moved well enough to secure this class win but in the challenge on the final go around she wasn’t going as positively so today, had to take the reserve.

2nd. Boyle’s Sh Ch Zarcrest Panda Monium HCW23

Really felt for the handler here. This beautiful bitch was immaculately presented, she is so well constructed all through and in tip top condition. However, she absolutely loathed the floor and kept putting the brakes on. I’m sure she can move superbly but today, she was unable to show me that.
