BULLMASTIFF SOCIETY OF SCOTLAND, OPEN SHOW, 4 NOVEMBER 2023
I would like to thank the Bullmastiff Society of Scotland for inviting me to judge their Society Open Show, a massive thank you to all the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to judge your dogs, I must say they all had fabulous temperaments. I had a splendid day, I was looked after superbly, the atmosphere and sportsmanship at this show was a pleasure to experience.
BULLMASTIFF
Veteran Dog (1, 0)
1. Roberts – Ch The Nightshifts Hotmail at Joybull (IMP NED) - Brindle
10 ½ years old well off for bone and size, lovely head with a kind dark eye, fabulous expression, looking very distinguished with his silvering muzzle, neat ears good reach of neck leading into a straight front assembly with tight feet. Level top line which he held whilst on the move, lovely rear angulation, moved round the ring soundly and with plenty of purpose. He certainly looked like he was enjoying himself in the ring. So nice to see the exhibitors showing their support and appreciation for a distinguished veteran. (Best Veteran in Show)
Puppy Dog (2,1)
1. Roberts – Joybull Mister Bossman – Brindle, 8 month old dog, well off for size and bone, a strong head with lovely expression, good pigmentation, good dentition, correct ear set, dark eyes, excellent stop and broad muzzle. Good shoulder placement, straight front, moderate angulation, rear quarters developing nicely, he held his top line on the move once he had settled. Neat catlike feet. (Best Puppy Dog)
Junior Dog (1,1)
1. Cridge – Karmicly Last Word – Brindle, 12.5 months old, of good size, still maturing, strong head with a broad skull, neatly set ears and kind dark eye, excellent stop with a broad muzzle, good dentition, lovely expression, good shoulder placing chest and rear quarters developing nicely, he made his handler work, moved out steadily holding his topline. Neat feet.
Post Graduate Dog (5,2)
1. McGroarty – Ardhub Mathew – Red, 22 Months old, a well-balanced with an appealing head and expression with neat set ears, correct stop and with a broad deep muzzle, lovely dark eye with good pigmentation, strong neck, good lay of shoulder, deep chest, super cat like feet, short back and loin well-muscled with good rear angulation, good tail set, moved soundly with drive and purpose shown in excellent condition (RES Best Dog).
2. Brearley – Fowlerheights Artax at Tatroyds – Red - of good size and substance nicely balanced head lovely expression, good stop with broad deep muzzle, good lay of shoulder chest nicely developing, short back and loin, moved soundly.
3. Williams – Diablo Sivola - Red – nearly 3 years old of good size and substance nicely balanced head lovely expression but would prefer neater ears, good stop with broad muzzle, good lay of shoulder, moved soundly holding top line.
Limit Dog (3,1)
This was a difficult class to judge as both dogs had similar attributes.
1. Roberts – Joybull Mr Sandman - Red – 2 ½ years old, of good size and substance with a nicely balanced head with good detention and a lovely expression, strong muscular neck leading to well-placed shoulders, straight front, well sprung rib, moved soundly and with plenty of drive and purpose, holding his topline. Tight neat feet
2. McGroarty - Ardhub Love it in Black – Brindle – 21 months old, like 1st he is too of good size and substance with nicely balanced head with a lovely expression, with good detention, strong muscular neck leading to good shoulder placement. straight front, moved soundly, holding his topline. Tight neat feet. Preferred the movement of 1st today.
Open Dog (1,0)
1. McGroarty- Ardhub Ethan – Red – 21 Months old – this dog certainly caught my eye when he came into the ring, he may have stood alone but thoroughly deserved his placing, shown in super condition. He looked superb and square from all angles, well off for bone and substance. Strong head but not overdone, lovely dark mask, with kind dark eyes, good ear placing, wide jaw with square muzzle. Excellent spring of rib, and well-muscled throughout, short coupled with a level top line and correct tail set. A well balanced, happy enthusiastic boy who moved around the ring effortlessly with plenty of drive and purpose. (Best Dog and Best in Show).
Puppy Bitch (2,0)
1. Roberts – Joybull Dance With The Devil - Brindle - 8 months old , litter sister to puppy dog, lots to like about this young lady, very feminine head with dark mask and darkest of eyes, good width and depth of muzzle, good bite, neat ear set, body developing nicely, muscular arched neck, good shoulder placement, straight front, moderate angulation with a deep chest and short back, good tail set super feet, moved freely at one with her handler, presented in excellent condition. (Best Puppy Bitch and Best Puppy in Show).
2. Williams- Kierlaceyan Emma Jayne – Red – 10 months old feminine head with dark mask neat ear set, good width of jaw and depth of muzzle body still developing, moved soundly holding top line, tight feet, but would prefer better foot placing when free standing.
Junior Bitch (3, 0)
1. Taylor - Karmicly Bahama Mama at Karismar - Brindle- 12.5 Months litter sister to Junior Dog Winner, Stands square in profile. good size and substance, still maturing, a strong square feminine head with a broad skull, dark mask, neatly set ears and kind dark eye, excellent stop with a broad muzzle, good dentition, lovely expression, good shoulder placing chest and rear quarters developing nicely, moved out steadily holding her top line. Neat tight feet.
2. Geurts & Aben – The Nightshifts Miss World – Fawn – 14 months old of slightly smaller in size than 1st but a very balanced young girl with strong square feminine head with the darkest of masks neatly neat ear set, good reach of neck leading to good shoulder placement with straight front, body developing nicely. Muscular hindquarters with well-developed second thigh Moved soundly and with purpose maintaining top line. Tight neat feet.
3. Cridge - Karmicly Shaken Not Stirred – Red 12.5 months old, litter sister to 1st, a strong but feminine head with a broad skull, dark mask, neatly set ears and kind dark eye, broad muzzle, good dentition. Body still developing. Moved soundly, just preferred the movement of 1st and 2nd today.
Post Graduate Bitch (4,1)
1. Campbell & Martin - Bainsford Maples Blossom – Red -nicely balanced 2-year-old, with good proportions throughout. Strong but not overdone head, good pigmentation with a lovely expression, dark eyes and neat ear set, dentition good, good width of chest strong neck leading to good lay of shoulder, good top line with correct tail set. Muscular hindquarters with well-developed second thigh. Movement was true coming and going, holding top line on the move good tail set, tight feet.
2. Wemyss - Nanhaboozoo No April Fool (TAF) -Red- Red -18 months old, with good proportions throughout. Feminine head, would prefer a more defined stop, good pigmentation with a lovely expression, dark eyes and neatly set ears, dentition good, good width of chest, strong neck leading to good lay of shoulder, good spring of rib, good top line with correct tail set. Movement was true coming and going, holding top line on the move.
3. Brearley – Jolly Mia at Tatroyds – Red – Nearly 3 years old head strong but still feminine would prefer better ear set, but once alert she did hold them in place, good width of chest strong neck, good lay of shoulder, correct tail set, held top line on the move.
Limit Bitch (3,0)
1. Myers –Optimus Daisonville hello Again - Fawn - 19 months old. Well balanced young lady with a strong, square but very feminine head with the darkest of masks and eyes, not overdone in any way, well filled out cheeks and good breadth and depth of muzzle. Muscular arched neck leading to good shoulder placement, straight front, tight feet. Good depth of chest, short straight back, rib cage well sprung, muscular rear quarters, good tail set moved freely with drive and purpose, covering the ground with ease, top line held on the move, tail carriage good. Presented in excellent condition. (Res Best Bitch)
2. McGroarty – Ardhub Nice and Spicy with Braeaaron – Brindle – 21 months old, another quality girl that appealed for type, square feminine head with neat ears, dark expressive eyes, good cheek development, broad width and depth of muzzle, good dentition, short straight back, level top line which she held on the move. Moved soundly at one with her handler shown in excellent condition. Beautiful tight feet.
3. Murphy – Nahnaboozoo Catcha Poacha – Fawn – Square head, well filled cheeks with dark mask and eyes, good dentition, body maturing nicely, good lay of shoulder with straight front, level top line, a little unsettled but moved soundly.
Open Bitch (4, 1)
4. Gerts & Aben - CH Joybull Miss Dynamite NJK - Fawn - 2 ½ years old. Well balanced girl with a super head, not overdone in any way, its strong, square but very feminine with the darkest of masks and the most expressive dark eyes, well filled out cheeks and good breadth and depth of muzzle. Muscular arched neck leading to good shoulder placement, straight front with good depth of chest, short straight back, rib cage well sprung, muscular rear quarters, level top line with a good tail set, she moved freely with drive and purpose, she covered the ground with ease, she held her top line when on the move. Tail carriage good. Presented in excellent condition at one with her handler. (Best Bitch and Reserve Best in Show))
2. Murphy - Vallhalla Hunter Upsy Daisy At Nanahboozoo – Fawn - Just 3 years old, well off for size and bone, a strong head with lovely expression, good pigmentation, correct ear set, dark eyes, excellent stop and broad muzzle, good dentition, neat catlike feet. She was a little unsettled and made her handler work hard.
3. McGroarty – Ardhub Devil May Care – Brindle well off for bone and size, still strong head with a broad skull, neatly set ears and kind dark eye, would prefer less wrinkle, good dentition, lovely expression, moved steady and true.
