French Bulldog
My thanks to the committee of Blackpool Championship Show for this invitation to judge which was delayed by 3 years due to Covid. I was pleased with the quality of my winners. The most disappointing part of my day was that there was too much incorrect rear movement. Whilst in some cases this may have been due to the uneven ground and short spiky grass, judging is ‘on the day’ so poor movement was penalised. Generally, heads were very good but wry mouths were present. Nostrils were satisfactory but fully closed were presented and penalised. A few exhibits in the later classes were carrying too much weight. Judging was outdoors with no shade which was fine for the cloudy start to the day for the male classes, but it did become warm and humid for the later classes so movement in later classes was kept to a minimum. No exhibit showed any signs of respiratory distress but there was some noisy breathing apparent.

Two very good pieds headed this class.
1ST 1182 - Bevanray Terrypendrey (Mrs B Hucker)
Eye catching double hooded brindle pied. Immaculately presented clear coat. Well balanced throughout. Well placed ears of correct size, dark round eyes and good upturn of jaw. Would prefer more width to muzzle but his head is still developing. Deep broad chest well ribbed back and correct length of loin and ideal underline. Correct topline which he held on the move. Straight front, strong pasterns and well-muscled, rear with good depth of thigh. Neat feet. A natural showman who demands to be looked at. No hesitation in awarding him Best Puppy and RCC.
2ND 1186 - Zorro of Shine Treasure for Oschalben (Miss S Hutchinson). Another well presented, promising brindle pied. Well-developed cheeks, dark well placed eyes, good layback but muzzle could be more defined. Shorter coupled than the winner and not moving quite as well today.

A trio of very promising puppies who all started off a little overwhelmed but slowly gained in confidence to enjoy their day out!
1ST 1197 - Fangoria De Farrajon (Imp Esp) (Mr M Leachman). Very pretty 6-month-old dark brindle girl. She has the sweetest of heads with well-placed ears lovely dark eyes and well-placed nose. Her head appears small as her body is so well developed. Her ribs are well rounded and deep. Good rear angulation. Pleasing topline. When settled she moved well. She missed out on BPB due to lack of maturity but I’m sure she will trouble the best as her head develops.
2ND 1174 - Vanitystone Cluster Bomb (Mrs K Hardman). Another very pretty dark brindle girl. Beautiful head and expression. Lovely dark round eyes. Topline developing well with good angles fore and aft. Not as confident on the move today as 1st but once she gains in confidence I’m sure these two will swap places many times.

Strong arched neck into well placed shoulders. Straight front with good bone. Good spring of rib and correct length of loin with well angulated rear and good depth of thigh. One of the best toplines of the day! Well set tail. This girl has personality plus. I last saw her 2 years ago at the same show as a puppy and she hasn’t lost any of the exuberance she showed then. She seems to love the showring and does everything she can to show herself off. No hesitation in awarding her the CC and I believe it was her crowning CC. Congratulations.
