West Of England Ladies Kennel Society

Breed: Spaniel (Clumber)

My sincere thanks to the Ladies of WELKS for extending this invitation and the wonderful hospitality which I received on the day. I was thrilled with the size and quality of my entry. My thanks to my wonderful stewards for keeping the ring running so efficiently and most importantly to all who entered their dogs and accepting my decisions in a very sporting manner.

Veteran Dog (1)

1ST Whissgig Daddy Cool (Mr P A & Mrs J A Sheppard): Good overall balance. Head large with broad skull and well defined stop. Clean eyes and large vine shaped ears. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. Good depth of chest with well sprung rib cage. Strong hindquarters with hocks low and parallel to the ground. Moved soundly. BV.

Puppy Dog (2)

1ST Etheridge Penarth (Mrs K & Mr S Baird) Well balanced puppy of just under a year old. Square head with good breadth of skull. Deep stop and well developed flews. Good length of neck. Excels in his forehand construction with shoulders well laid back and corresponding length and return of upper arm placing front legs well under the body. Well ribbed back. Hindquarters developing well with excellent bone and large feel. Carried himself well on the move with good drive from the rear. BP.

2ND Suelynda Kith and Kin among Jahanghir (Mrs L Guy): Another quality puppy who I liked very much. Well balanced all through. Skull of good breadth. Clear eyes and square muzzle. Well laid shoulder with correct return of upper arm. Chest of good depth for age. Well ribbed back. Well formed hindquarters with hocks well let down. Not quite the freedom of movement as winner.

Junior Dog (2, 1)

1ST Etheridge Penarth (Mrs K & Mr S Baird). 1st PD.

Yearling Dog (2)

1ST Abbyford Sir Grey Wethers (Mrs J A Crawford): Good overall balance. Little higher on the leg than would be my preference. Well shaped head with deep stop and well developed flews. Neck of good length with well laid shoulders with equal length of upper arm. Well sprung ribcage. Strong hindquarters with well developed second high and hocks parallel. Excellent bone with large round feet. Moved accurately fore and aft with good stride when viewed in profile.

2ND Maursett Melwyn (Mrs R & Mr S Wareham & Dustan). Well balanced. Large head with broad skull and deep stop. Large vine shaped ears. Not quite the layback of shoulder or length of body as the winner. Good depth of chest and well sprung ribcage. Scores in hindquarters with well turned stifles. Excellent bone and feet. Moved soundly on a good stride. Very well presented and handled.

Post Graduate Dog (5)

1ST Maursett Muttley at Molvonia (Mrs S & Mr P Whitehouse). I thought this dog was absolutely super. Excellent overall balance. His head is large and square with with good breadth of skull and deep in stop. Strong muzzle with well developed flews. Clean eyes with a lovely expression. Large vine shaped ears. Good length of neck flowing seamlessly into well laid shoulder with corresponding length and return of upper arm. Chest is of good depth with forelegs placed well under the body. Well sprung ribcage leading to muscular loin. Strong, extremely well muscled hindquarters. Well off for bone with big round feet. His movement was a joy to behold - accurate fore and aft and super ground covering stride with great drive. He left me in no doubt that he could do a days work in the field - totally fit for purpose. Such great attitude - he had 3 different handlers throughout the day and gave them all his absolute best. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Delighted to award him his first CC and BOB.

2ND Wahnahnish Superman of Hajacan (ai) (Imp Nld) (Mrs J Pickering). Presents a typical outline. Head large and square with deep stop and large vine shaped ears. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulders and corresponding length of upper arm. Deep chest with good length and spring of ribcage. Strong hindquarters with well laid stifles. Little slack in front pasterns. Excellent coat and condition. Moved well on a good stride.

3RD Badgersmoon Mr Branson (Mr A G, Mr J M & Mrs J Fenwick, Thompson & Langridge)

Limit Dog (2)

1ST Anbrook Don't Stop Me Now at Harrifield (Mrs L J Thorogood): Well balanced and strongly made dog. Broad, square head with large vine shaped ears. Muzzle square with well developed flews. Neck of good length leading to well laid shoulders and corresponding upper arm. Short, straight forelegs with excellent bone and big round feet. Ribcage is well sprung. I would prefer a fraction more bend in stifle. Excellent coat and condition. Moved soundly on a good stride.

2ND Nivalis Augustus (Mrs D Gascoigne). Good overall balance. Head large and square with deep stop. Good length of neck. Well laid shoulder. Deep chest. Well boned all through but a little slack in front pasterns. Good length and spring of ribcage. Hindquarters strong with well turned stifles. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Moved soundly - just lacking a little drive today.

Open Dog (3)

1ST Sh Ch Maursett Mallachie at Molvonia (Mrs S & Mr P Whitehouse). Beautifully balanced all through - a real stallion male. I particularly liked his head which is large and square and masculine with a deep stop and strong muzzle with well developed flews. Eyes clean and very expressive. Chest of good depth with forelegs placed well under the body. Good length and spring of rib. Hindquarters well muscled with good turn of stifle and hocks well let down. Excels in bone - short straight forelegs with big round feet. Excellent coat and condition. Moved true fore and aft and showed a good length of stride when viewed in profile. In the challenge I just felt that his younger kennel mate showed a little more drive but it was a close call between them. A very well deserved RCC.

2ND Suelynda Second Edition with Badgersmoon (Mr A G, Mr J M & Mrs J Fenwick, Thompson & Langridge): Good overall balance - slightly lighter in frame than the winner but still plenty enough of him. Head large and of good breadth with large vine shaped ears. Not quite the length of neck as the winner nor the length of upper arm. Good length and spring of ribcage. Scores in his hindquarters which are well muscled with well bent stifles and hocks well let down. Excellent coat and condition. Moved well both fore and aft with good rear drive when viewed in profile.

3RD Jackpotstud Kiss Me Quick (Mr Gj & Mrs Je Constable & Morton).

Veteran Bitch (2,1)

1ST Winhampton Oops A Daisy (Mrs S A & Miss L L M Wilson): Well balanced with good outline. Head large and with good breadth of skull. Eyes clean with acceptable amount of haw. Long neck leading to well laid shoulder. Would like a little more depth in chest. Well ribbed back. Hindquarters well made with nicely turned stifles. Moved on a good even stride.

Minor Puppy Bitch (2,1)

1ST Maursett Missy (Mrs R & Mr S Wareham & Dustan). A really delightful puppy. So well balanced and taking everything in her stride. Very well proportioned head with good breadth of skull and deep stop. Large vine shaped years. Excellent length of neck leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. Chest of good depth for age. Ribcage of good length. Well laid down hocks. Excellent bone and big round feet. Moved with drive - just not quite as accurate as the dog puppy when it came to the puppy challenge. Excellent coat. Presented and handled to advantage.

Junior Bitch (3)

1ST Winhampton Pandoras Box (Mrs S A & Miss L L M Wilson). I liked this young bitch very much indeed and she wasn’t a million miles away from higher honours. Excellent overall balance. Her head is well proportioned with good breadth of skull and square muzzle. Clean eyes and deep stop. Good length of neck leading to exemplary forehand construction with the shoulders well laid back and corresponding length and return of upper arm. Chest of good depth. Ribcage long and well sprung. Hindquarters are strongly made with nicely bent stifles and hocks well let down. Moved with good drive. I think she will do very well in the future.

2ND Sugarsweet Banoffee Pie (Imp Swe) (Mr Gj & Mrs Je Constable & Morton). Another very promising young bitch. Well balanced with good outline. Head large and square with deep stop and well developed flews. Clean neck of good length leading into well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Deep chest. Good length and spring of ribcage. Hindquarters well muscled - not quite the turn of stifle as the winner and slightly higher in hock. Well boned with big round feet. Moved with good drive.

3RD Wooliebourne Nick of Time (Mr J & Mrs C Sainsbury)

Yearling Bitch (2)

1ST Whissgig Honeysuckle (Mr P A & Mrs J A Sheppard). Very nicely proportioned bitch of good overall balance. Head square with clean eyes and well developed flews. Good length of neck leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. Chest of good depth for age and ribcage of good length. Scores in her hindquarters with stifles well bent and hocks low. Moved accurately going away - just a bit untidy coming towards. Good bone and big round feet.

2ND Wooliebourne Lobster Lunch (Mr Gj & Mrs Je Constable & Morton): Rather higher on the leg and not the length in body as the winner. Feminine head with deep stop and well developed flews. Well laid shoulder with corresponding length of upper arm. Good length of ribcage. Would like a little more bend in stifle. Excellent bone and large round feet. In excellent coat. Moved out soundly.

Post Graduate Bitch (5, 2)

1ST Whissgig Crackerjack (Mr P A & Mrs J A Sheppard). Well balanced all through. Skull broad with deep stop. Square muzzle with well developed flews. Clean neck of good length. Well laid shoulder. I would like a little more angulation of the upper arm. Good depth of chest and length of ribcage. Scores in her hindquarters with well turned stifles. Excellent bone with large round feet. Fraction slack in front pasterns. Moved well holding her outline.

2ND Abbyford Moonlit Serenade (Mrs J A Crawford). A little shorter in the body and higher on the leg than the winner. Excellent head shape with deep stop and large vine shaped ears. Clean in neck. Preferred her forehand construction in that she had the better return of upper arm and therefore her front legs were placed right under the body. Well sprung ribcage. Scores in hindquarters with well turned stifles. She needs to settle on the move as she gave her handler a very hard time and ultimately paid the price. Excellent bone and large round feet.

3RD Wymeswold Verdejo at Greencourt (Imp Nld) (Mrs J Pickering

Limit Bitch (5)

1ST Suelynda Kreme Della Kreme (Mr D K & Mrs S L Boden): Lovely bitch showing correct breed outline. Large head with good breadth of skull and deep stop. Clean eyes and large vine shaped ears. Her neck is of good length leading to well laid shoulders and corresponding length of upper arm. Deep in chest with ribcage well sprung and of good length. Muscular loin leading to well made hindquarters with hocks low and stifles well bent. Excellent bone and the best of feet. In excellent coat and condition and presented to perfection. Moved with great drive on a good stride when viewed in profile. Close up for top honours - just felt the open bitch was slightly tidier in front movement coming towards. A well deserved RCC - her best is yet to come.

2ND Whissgig Comedy of Errors (ai) (Mr P A & Mrs J A Sheppard): Good overall balance. Head well shaped with good breadth of skull and deep stop. Long neck leading to well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Good depth of chest. Ribcage well sprung and of good length. Hindquarters well muscled but not quite the bend of stifle as the winner and therefore not the rear drive - although good fore and aft. Excellent bone and large round feet.

3RD Tavirosh Sugar Plum Fairy (ai) (Mrs I.m. Charlesworth-Ironside)

Open Bitch (4)

1ST Sh Ch Tweedsmuir She's So Sheek (Mr P M & Mrs H D Monaghan). A truly lovely bitch with excellent breed profile. Large, square head with deep stop. Clean, expressive eyes and square muzzle. Good length of neck leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm placing forelegs well under the body. Good depth of chest leading to well sprung ribcage of good length. Powerful hindquarters with well bent stifles and hocks low. Excels in bone and large round feet. Coat of excellent texture and presented to perfection. She moved accurately both fore and aft and showed a good length of stride when viewed in profile really using her backend to advantage. CC & BOS

2ND Whissgig Wintersaga (ai) (Mr P A & Mrs J A Sheppard): Well balanced all through. Broad skull with deep stop and square muzzle. Not quite as clean in neck as the winner. Well laid shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. Deep chest. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Strong in loin leading to well muscled hindquarters with nicely bent stifles and low hocks. Good bone and large round feet. Moved soundly with good drive.
