English Setters
I would like to thank the committee for the invitation and the exhibitors who attended, I had two super stewards to keep me on the straight and narrow.
I have been involved with English Setters for over 19 years and this was my first-time awarding CCs in the breed. I really enjoyed my day out. I had some lovely top-class dogs to judge on the day.
To make some general observations, there were a number of light eyes creeping in, which can detract from that beautiful English Setter expression. Also, there were a few suspect mouths, some with small teeth and some very gay tails, please be aware of these things as you breed on. I was disappointed at the lack of young males in the entry, I do wonder where the next generation of stud dogs will come from.
My Dog CC and Best of Breed was Samelen Come Back Special (Ms J & Mr A Atyeo & Taylor) who I understand won his third CC on the day, congratulations. My Reserve Dog CC went to the veteran Sh Ch Crimbledale Sea The Skies JW ShCM (Miss D Loynd). My Bitch CC was Sh Ch Tattersett Cool Roxy at Fishwick (Miss L A Buckley) and my Reserve Bitch CC Sh Ch Goldbirch Wings of Desire JW ShCM ShCEx (Mrs S D Loakes). Best Puppy went to the BPD winner Severnsett Gold Sovereign (Mr N A & Mrs P M Darley). Best Veteran went to Sea the Stars litter sister in Sh Ch Crimbledale Seaing Stars JW (Miss D Loynd)

1st Place Sh Ch Crimbledale Sea the Skies JW ShCM (Miss D Loynd)
Very honest chap of 8½ with a tidy outline. Masculine in head with a lovely kind expression. Clean reach of neck and well angulated front, depth to the forechest and ribs have a decent spring to them, firm through the loin. Quarters well developed with a moderate bend of stifle and good muscle tone. Good finish to the croup. Moved with a super open side gait and excelled in the challenge to take RCC, congratulations and thank you for bringing him, was just pipped by his beautiful sister for best veteran.

1st Place Severnsett Gold Sovereign (Mr N A & Mrs P M Darley)
What an exciting prospect this young man is, I thought he was a lovely typy puppy of 9 months. He has a masculine head of good proportions and a dark eye giving a soft and gentle expression. Good through the neck and shoulder and desired return of forearm. Ribs well back and correct depth to forechest. Has the right amount of substance throughout for his age. Once settled he moved out well with a free driving action. Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Breed.
2nd Place Severnsett Black Prince (Mesdames G O & M Fisher & Withey)
Litter bother to the winner and today was full of mischief which was great to see a puppy enjoying himself. Again, a very typy puppy with a good overall shape and outline, masculine head and expression, eyes need to darken a shade. Good front assembly on him, shoulder well laid back with a good return of upper arm. Stands on good well boned legs. Well-proportioned in body and decent quarters. Once he gets his head together on the move, I am sure he will be pushing his brother for the top spot.

1st Place Bournehouse New Years Moon (Miss H Osborne)
Orange boy who is pleasing in outline. Masculine in head, good reach of neck and decent front assembly, although I would like a little more return of upper arm. Ribs well back and good finish to the croup. Movement was sound, just needs to be a bit more fluid in his action. Would like a little more of him all through but he is young and has plenty of time on his side.

1st Place Richecca Midwinter (Mr S & Mrs M Williams)
This chap has a good outline on him but needs to fill his frame to complete the picture, he is just over 2 and has plenty of time to do that. His head is masculine with a kind expression and a good eye shape. Neck strong, shoulder well set and decent return of upper arm, ribs still need to spring. Quarters well made with a good bent of stifle. Good amount of drive on the move.

1st Place Juldeane Line of Duty (ai) (Mrs W & Miss K Whittington)
Masculine in head, a tad strong in back skull for me, good reach of neck and a decent front assembly. Stands on well boned legs and neat feet. Short coupled, ribs well back and quarters well developed, stifles well bent. Movement was accurate but needs a little more forward extension to complete the picture.

1st Place Sorbus Dance the Night Away (Mrs A M Wright)
I liked the boy for type, but he did give his handler a tough time and nearly blew his chances. Smart five-year-old orange boy with a tidy outline. Masculine in head with a lovely kind expression. Clean reach of neck and decent amount of front angulation and return of forearm. Good depth to the forechest and ribs have a decent spring to them, firm through the loin. Quarters well developed with a moderate bend of stifle and good muscle tone. Good finish to the croup. Moved out well when he got into his stride, well presented coat and had good finish.
2nd Place Tattersett Rainbow Legacy (Mrs A Hepburn)
This chap could easily have won the class but he wasn’t playing ball on the stack and kept pushing his head back and then dipping his topline which cost him. His head is masculine with a pleasing expression, neck strong, shoulder well placed but would like a little more return of upper arm. Good through the ribs, a tad long in loin. Well-made quarters, he had good drive on the move but not quite the action of the winner. I am sure he will have a bright future ahead of him.
3rd Place Bumblecorn Robin at Daraquist (Mr R H & Mrs G M Sykes)

What a super class to judge on my first-time awarding tickets in the breed, I really was nit-picking to decide the placing.
1st Place Samelen Come Back Special (Ms J & Mr A Atyeo & Taylor)
I have to be honest and say I have never noticed this 5-year-old chap before but today he was on form. I thought he was a lovely typy boy. He has a masculine head of good proportions and a dark eye giving a typical masculine expression. Good through the neck and shoulder and desired return of forearm. Ribs well back and correct depth to forechest. Has the right amount of substance throughout. Once settled he put his powerful quarters to use with a free driving action, good going away and accurate when he came towards me. In super coat and condition. In the runoff in the class, he just excelled on the move, especially in profile, when others threw in the towel, he just got better and better, he had to take the class and later the DCC and Best of Breed. I was told by his handler that his was his third CC, many congratulations!
2nd Place Sh Ch Severnsett Firecracker (Mr N A & Mrs P M Darley)
Very honest boy with a tidy outline. Super masculine in head with a lovely kind expression. Clean reach of neck and well angulated front, stands on well boned legs and neat feet. He has depth to the forechest and ribs have a decent spring to them, firm through the loin. Quarters well developed with a moderate bend of stifle and good muscle tone. Good finish to the croup. Not with his usual handler and he played the fool on the move and was not as tidy as the winner.
3rd Place Sh Ch Wansleydale Quicksilver JW (Mrs L Taylor)

1st Place Walshaw Watercolours (Mrs S A Hoskin)
A new one to me but a good one, she won the class on type and movement and the later post grad class. I thought she had a super headpiece. Lovely head shape, well moulded and balanced giving a good expression. Clean reach of neck which fitted neatly into her well-placed shoulders, good return of forearm, enough forechest and well ribbed back. Firm through the loin and had a correct topline. Quarters were well developed with a good bend of stifle. Stands on good legs and neat feet. On the move she had good footfall and was the most accurate in the class.
2nd Place Wansleydale Sky Angel at Felsett (Mrs C A Felton Blyth)
Blue lady who presents a pleasing outline. Pretty head and expression, good though the neck and shoulder, and a decent return of upper arm. Straight front, enough depth to forechest, well bent stifles and lovely tail action on the move. Moved out well. For my tastes I would have like a little more of her all through but that will come as she matures.
3rd Place Oshowa Dream Come True (Mr P & Mrs N Welburn)

1st Place Sh Ch Crimbledale Seaing Stars JW (Miss D Loynd)
I have judged this lady before and she did well under me then, so was thrilled to see her walk into the ring. Now eight and a half, she still has all the classic English Setter virtues I was looking for. She has the most beautiful head and expression, enhanced by a lovely dark eye. So clean and balanced in outline and she just flows. She has the right amount of substance. Good reach of neck which fits well into her correctly placed shoulders, balanced angles fore and aft and super body proportions. She moved so well with accuracy of footfall and grace and with an open side gait. She pushed really hard in the bitch challenge and was very close to top honours. A top-class lady I could not deny her Best Veteran.

1st Place Elvistar Private Dancer (Mrs A M Forrest)
What a little star this baby was, just six months old but put in a really polished performance. Feminine head and expression with a lovely dark eye. Clean through the neck and shoulders. Moderate angulation both ends, which is balanced. Good body proportioned and well ribbed. Good finish to the croup. Happy and confident on the move and she maintained her outline. I will follow her career with interest.

1st Place Kanietter Sabonette (Mrs M Sharples)
A lovely type of bitch who is full of quality. Beautiful outline on this young lady. Head of good shape, proportions and a melting expression. Well angulated both ends and in super body condition for one so young. Good spring of rib and firm through the loin. Firm in topline which she maintained on the move. Stylish in side gait and driving from the rear. Beautifully handled as always by this exhibitor, gentle calm and never distracting from the exhibit. Should have a bright future ahead of her.
2nd Place Marwessett Ysobel Enigma at Cornsett (Ms P Owen)
A lot of potential in this orange lady but she was giving a lot away in maturity to the winner today. Decent outline on her, balanced angles front and rear. Feminine head and expression, clean neck into shoulder and good through the rib and loin, quarters developing well. Had a good action on the move.

1st Place Fishwick Fortune Cookie (Miss L A Buckley)
This 13-month-old young lady has the most super shape and outline. I really liked her. In terms of development, she is where she should be for her age with a good overall shape and finish to her. Head pleasing, neck clean in to a decent lay-back of shoulder. Body proportions good for her age with balanced angles front and rear and super quarters. On the move she had accurate footfall and the right amount of drive to give the desired action. Should have a good future ahead of her.
2nd Place Sharnyx Sparklin Starlight at Cornsett (Ms P Owen)
Orange bitch with a good overall make and shape. Well-made throughout with good angulation both ends. Feminine in head and expression, I would like a little more work. I would like a little more depth to forechest which she will get as she develops, well ribbed back and firm through the loin. Well-made quarters. Stands on well boned legs and good feet. Sound and ground covering action on the move, not as tidy coming towards me as the winner.

1st Place Oshowa Dream Come True (Mr P & Mrs N Welburn)
Feminine head with a good eye and expression. Good neck and lay of shoulder, depth to forechest and straight front. Ribs well back and sprung and correct length of loin. Developed quarters and good bend of stifle, firm correct topline which was held on the move. Not quite as fluid on the move as some of the others today.

1st Place Goldbirch Hearts Desire JW (Mrs S D Loakes)
Really lovely tri bitch. On the move she excels, which is where she won this class. I liked her overall shape and style, very clean in outline, beautiful head piece on her with plenty of work, clean neck in to well set shoulder. Needs to fill out in body and drop into her front to complete the picture. Quarters well developed. Very graceful action on the move with a free-flowing and a super head carriage, really pushed her mother for the RCC. Should do well.
2nd Place Wansleydale Mayflower (Mrs L A Beasley)
Another very typy lady with a lot to like about her, really upped her game in this class compared to SB. She has a good overall make and shape, personally I would like a like a little more head and work in it. Body well made with good angles front and rear, shoulder well set and a good return of upper arm. Ribs well sprung and firm in loin. Not happy on the move today which cost her.
Post Graduate Bitch Entries: 5 Absentees: 1
1st Place Walshaw Watercolours (Mrs S A Hoskin)
2nd Place Chanina Golden Rose JW (Mr S & Mrs Y Wale)
One I have judged before and on first pass through would win the class. Feminine with the right amount of substance. Lovely head and kind feminine expression. Well-made throughout and with the right body proportions for her age. She wasn’t quite with it on the move today, I could see a good side gait, but she just needs more drive and to tighten in front which she will do as she matures.
3rd Place Dyrham Deja Vue (Mr K & Mrs J Bishop)
Limit Bitch Entries: 5 Absentees: 1
This class was a tussle between two very typy ladies.
1st Place Bournehouse Secret Destiny for Meadowfoot (Mr D & Mrs A Paton)
Orange lady, full of quality, she has a beautiful head piece on her. Super through the neck into shoulders, which are well set. Stands on well boned legs and neat feet. Good depth to chest and well made in body and strong quarters. Not in her best jacket today. I loved this bitch from the ringside and think she is full of quality, she was in my mind for top honours but didn’t play ball in the challenge and lost her shape both on the stack and on the move, which cost her, a real shame. Her title will not be far away, I am sure.
2nd Place Walshaw Center Stage (Mrs C J Tucker)
Another very typy orange with lots to appreciate about her, she presented a lovely shape on the stack for her handler. I found her very elegant. Lovely head shape, well moulded and balanced. Clean reach of neck which fitted neatly into her well-placed shoulders, good return of forearm, enough forechest and well ribbed back. Firm through the loin and had a correct topline. Decent finish to the croup and tail well set. Quarters were well developed with a good bend of stifle. Stands on good legs and neat feet. On the move she had good footfall and accuracy. Just needs a little more finish to complete the picture.
3rd Place Bumblecorn Rose (Mrs L & Mr P Stevens)

1st Place Sh Ch Tattersett Cool Roxy at Fishwick (Miss L A Buckley)
This bitch did her utmost to throw it away, but she is beautiful and that just shone through. Her head is super, of the correct proportions, balanced with well shaped eyes which are of the correct colour, in this entry she was the one I would have loved to have at home looking back at me. Clean in neck, she scores in front angulation, shoulders well laid back and a good return of forearm. Stands on well boned legs and feet, correct depth to chest. Ribs well sprung and firm loin. Quarters are wide and well developed. On the move she covered the ground with accuracy, paced correctly and maintained her her outline. My pleasure to award her the BCC, congratulations.
2nd Place Sh Ch Goldbirch Wings of Desire JW ShCM ShCEx (Mrs S D Loakes)
Beautiful tri that I have done well before on a couple of occasions, she is so clean and balanced in outline and she just flows. She has and the right amount of substance. Feminine head with a dark eye but she has a hint of mischief in her as she looks back at you. Good reach of neck which fits well into her correctly placed shoulders, balanced angles fore and aft and super body proportions. She moved so well gliding around the ring with accuracy of footfall, scored in side-gate but not quite the front action of the winner today. I could not deny her the RCC. Thank you for bringing her again.
3rd Place Ravensett Golden Charm (Mrs A E & Mr J R Kerr)
