GREAT DANES - CRITIQUE

My thanks to Border Union Agricultural Society for the privilege of judging at their Championship Show. A superb layout with generously sized rings appreciated by many. Thank you exhibitors for your entries I respect the love and dedication held for your dogs, which shows in the good temperaments I came across. However, a very mixed bag of faults sadly exist. Many heads still do not fit the standard, coarseness, broad in backskull, too much cheek, lack of expression, huge ears and set low. Some pigeon chests, or no chest, few have correct shoulder angles, a lot steep in upper arm and pin. Many lack spring of rib, some narrow and long backs, angulation exists but poor in many, few pleasing croups and tail sets. Thus the incorrect shoulders and angular behinds produce movement that may be free in some, but it is not always correct.

1st Bartley’s NIKAMI PAPA SMURF ATELIB - Fine coated brindle dog of 8 ½ months, a settled and happy free moving puppy, showed well.

2nd Allan’s D’ANGELO FOREVER HOUSE MARTINA’S FOR DRAMADANES (IMP ITA) NAF – Black dog of nearly 8 months with good bone, very much a baby, needs to settle on the move.

1st Chappell’s CH SELMALDA JEALOUS GUY (AI) – Beautifully marked brindle dog of 3 years he has substance, correct head planes, drop of lip, flat bone, lay of shoulder, level topline, proportionate length of back to size, angulation, free on the move and balanced. Handler shows dog to potential.

2nd Dyson’s CH SAMDICE NOBODY DOES IT BETTA (AI) – Strong but elegant brindle dog of 4 ½ years, beautiful chiselled head with kind eye and typical expression, broad muzzle with drop of lip, crest of neck into lay of shoulder, level back and angulated quarters, moved freely.

1st Dyson’s PRIMUS BOND GIRL WITH SAMDICE - Beautifully marked brindle bitch of 9 months, chiselled head with expression, level back into angulated quarters, moved relaxed and well on loose lead.

2nd Donnelly’s PRIMUS TURNS BACK TIME – Lighter brindle bitch of 9 months, has expression with length of foreface, clean cut puppy, level back, moved freely.

1st Worsley’s PRIMUS ENCORE AVEC MALPA – Lovely honest bitch of 18 months, fawn with black mask, correct head planes with appealing expression and length of muzzle, correct lay of shoulder, proportionate upper arm, depth of brisket, level back with slight rise over loin, correct croup into angulated quarters, firm body in condition, moved level and free. There is just enough of everything about her, nothing overstated easily my BCC, pleased to watch her perform well in the group earning her Group 2.

2nd Lawson’s MURRAYVHAYLE MISSBEHAVE AT DROOLAKISS – Fawn bitch of 14 months, short coupled, shown in good condition, tight feet was playful and unsettled on the move.

1st Morgan’s RIMOR BOADIXIA – Elegant dark brindle bitch of 19 months, showed beautifully, appealing head, kind eye, length of foreface, broad nose and drop of lip, clean crest of neck into correct lay of shoulder, flat bone, tight feet, level back into angulated quarters.

2nd Craig & Paolantonio’s CULSEANDANES JANET WEISS – Fawn bitch of 20 months, level head planes, expression, correct ear set and size, substance flat bone, tight feet, lay of shoulder, compact, showed well.

1st Dyson’s PRIMUS DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER SAMDICE – Beautiful 9 month old evenly marked brindle bitch, appealing head with expression, level planes, flat cheek bone, clean cut crest of neck into correct lay of shoulder, depth of brisket, level back, slight rise over the loin, angulated quarters, moved so freely couldn’t take my eyes off her, very promising baby, easily my RBCC. Then Working Puppy Group 1 and on with an excellent performance achieving Reserve Best Puppy in Show. Wow, so pleased for her.

2nd Gilbert’s LOMONDANE COORIE DOUNE – Fawn bitch of 3 years, lovely expression chiselled head with long foreface, level back, angulated quarters, moved well in the heat, tail wagging.

2nd Martin’s KEISHANT VENUS – Rich fawn black masked bitch of 3 ½ years, beautiful head with lovely expression, flat cheeks drop of lip, flat bone, spring of rib, short coupled, moved freely.
