BORDER TERRIERS

Judge – Tracey Anscombe

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge at your show and providing the steward, Lesley. She was brilliant keeping the ring and me in order! The classes were supported by the Northern Border Terrier Club which I know is greatly appreciated and lovely rosettes provided. I believe that not only did we have the biggest terrier entry but the biggest breed entry in the show. Thank you to everyone who entered, I thoroughly enjoyed my day. The weather held and no umbrellas required resulting in a pleasant ringside atmosphere and lovely exhibits to judge giving me a lot to think about.

Border Terrier Puppy 11 Entries 5 Absent

1st Raedwulf Nightfall (Mr M & Mrs V Atkinson) BPIB PG3

An exciting puppy class. It was a joy to judge and bolds well for the breed’s future.

The class was headed up by this delightful 9-month-old dark grizzle dog. Presented in top condition and coat. Ears of correct size and falling to cheek and has width of skull for his head to develop into. Strong in jaw with a correct scissor bite housing large teeth. He is very balanced and holds his shape well, moved Ok once he got going on the uneven surface that a few others struggled with today even in the higher classes.

2nd Raedwulf Daybreak (Mr M & Mrs V Atkinson)

Litter brother to one whose head is more developed in appearance and expression. Slightly more compacted than his brother in appearance, moved well around the ring resulting in a very close decision between the two. Today I felt that 1 was in slightly better coat.

Border Terrier Junior8 Entries / 1Absent

1st Stineval Lambert (Mr A & Mrs C Horner) - BOB

A real quality dog with everything in the right place, not overdone in any way. Pleasing in head and expression with a correct bite, big teeth, and strong jaw. His construction flowed from his neck into shoulder layback of rib into loin and off his back as short carrot shaped tail, he stands on small, neat feet with thick pads. Presented in top order in correct double coat of harsh texture and pliable thick pelt. He moved around the ring with purpose holding his shape covering the ground. When it came to the final line-up for Best of Breed, he secured his place on showmanship and ring presence in very stiff competition.

2nd Raedwulf Nightfall (Mr M & Mrs V Atkinson)

Placed first in the puppy class.

Border Terrier Postgraduate7 Entries / 4Absent

1st Beaconpike Solstice (Mr S & Mrs K Golding)

Super bitch who is just so well put together everything in the right place but not overdone in any way. Shown today in super coat harsh and dense I could really see her out on the moors even in the bleakest of weathers without a care. Moved with economy around the ring, she has so many virtues that she seemed today to want to hide under a bushel!

2nd Shiftyfox Roque Agent (Mr G Wildey)

Masculine dog of correct proportions from all angles. Very attractive in head and expression, correct detention well placed ears and dark eye. Straight front and nice lay of rib so easily spanned. Moved out well in tune with his handler. Unfortunately, today he was out of coat which was the deciding factor in this class.

3rd Aryabe Another Choice (Mrs J Blakey)

Border Terrier Limit 8 Entries / 2 Absent

1st Beaconpike Dionysus (Mr S & Mrs K Golding)

A dog I have judged before and still think very highly of. He has all the attributes a border terrier should have, otter like head, scissor bite, large teeth, harsh double coat, spannable, ground covering gate that could follow a horse all day. I could go on however my views of the lovely boy are well documented. In the final line up for Best of Breed I was confronted with an extremely tough but pleasurable decision and would have rewarded him reserve best of breed if there was one to award.

2nd Otterpaws Firebird ShCM (Miss A Dixon)

Can’t believe that this girl is a veteran, she out moved some of her younger competition today. She is of a nice size and still spannable although slightly rounder in rib now. True otter head with a correct bite. Presented in new coat just coming through with evidence of texture and pelt.

3rd Raedwulf Mata Hari JW (Mr M & Mrs V Atkinson)

Res Micustins Little Tiger (Mr M McNicholas)

Border Terrier Open 10 Entries / 4 Absent

1st Goldenmill Illusion at Vandamere (Miss J Singh)

I judged her almost 12 months ago and she has matured in that time and has certainly learnt her trade. Grizzle bitch shown in fabulous coat and presented so well. Her profile when stood shows off all her virtues held on the move. Attractive head, correct bite and varminty expression. Move Ok but another one that wasn’t keen on certain areas of the ring but did more than enough to secure her placing.

2nd Shiftyfox Black Pearl (Mr G Wildey)

5 year old blue and tan shown in super jacket with a lovely banding of tan through-out. Pleasing in head with correct bite and otter like appearance. Stands on small, neat feet. Moved steady around the ring and maintained her shape. Very close decision I just preferred the rib on 1.
