Golden Retrievers

Thank you for the invitation to judge at this very well organised show & many thanks to my stewards for their help today. Nice entry with some quality exhibits. No issue with bites, movement was generally sound & exhibits were shown in good muscle tone. Slightly frustrated by several bitches whose outline was spoilt by carrying too much weight, this was reflected in the placings. P (9,3): Excellent class to start. 1. Hill & Smith’s Megarvey Déjà vu, real substance to this youngster, great outline, attractive feminine head with dark eye & pigment, correct length of neck, straight front with cat like feet, scores very high in her excellent front angulation, good depth of chest, very good topline for her age with a correct tail set, ample second thigh, straight rear pasterns. Comes into her own when she moves around the ring, moves with real drive for one so young. As expected from this kennel, shown in a perfectly presented light gold coat, expertly handled. Carrying her tail slightly high today but this did not detract from the overall quality, delighted to award her BOB congratulations. I’ll be surprised if she doesn’t have a very successful future (Group 2). 2. Dunbar’s Linirgor Nine to five, high-quality youngster, close up to the winner but just preferred the profile movement of the winner today, another I suspect with a very bright future. Happy girl, eye catching outline, glamorous blonde coat, very attractive head with a dark eye & pigment, textbook straight legs & feet, good length of neck into well laid back shoulders, correct length of upper arm, topline fine for her age, correct bend of stifle and good straight rear pasterns. Again, another perfectly presented & expertly handed. In common with the winner slightly proud of her tail today. 3. Oakes’s Drumkilty Vanadium. J (5,0) Another strong class. 1. Beck’s Simon Basset De Ria Vela For Beinangus (Imp Esp), very nice type, balanced youngster, masculine but not overdone in any way, attractive outline, well presented, expressive masculine head with dark eye & pigment, clean muscular neck, great depth of chest, straight front legs & good feet, well angulated throughout, correct tail set. Moved soundly with drive & style, carried his tail slightly high today. Appeared to be sensitive to the background noise causing him to drop his topline at times, this was most evident during the final line up. 2. Hill & Smith’s Megarvey Clementine JW, close decision just preferred the type & substance of the winner, perhaps my favourite head of the day, beautiful feminine head with a dark eye & pigment, good clean muscular neck, straight front legs & cat like feet, good front angulation, nice topline, plenty second thigh. Lovely presentation. Moved well around the ring. 3. Oakes’s Drumkilty Vanadium. G (6,0) 1. Beck’s Simon Basset De Ria Vela For Beinangus (Imp Esp). 2. Oakes’s Drumkilty Vanadium, really impressed with this youngster in the previous two classes. Although the handling improved in each subsequent class, I felt the handler didn’t get the best out of him today, however it was impossible not to appreciate his quality. When standing correctly he has a beautiful balanced outline, attractive well-presented pale coat, his gorgeous masculine head with a dark eye and pigment was another candidate for my favourite head today, straight front, tight feet, correct length of neck, well laid shoulders & good length of upper arm, correct bend of stifle, straight rear pasterns, moved soundly. Another with a slightly high tail today. 3. Lochead’s Bluebraes Meadow Pipit. PG (4,3) 1. Beck’s Simon Basset De Ria Vela For Beinangus (Imp Esp). L (4,2) 1. Mcgregor’s Larena Pickpocket, well up to size masculine happy boy, balanced profile, strong head with a dark eye, straight front with nice feet, deep in chest, good spring of ribs, well angulated throughout. Movement could have been more positive. 2. Bradley’s Ceilcaesar Calendar Girl, carrying too much weight for me, pleasant outline, pretty feminine head with a dark eye, straight front with correct feet, deep in chest, well angulated front although heavy over the shoulders, good spring of ribs, plenty second thigh, felt she was bit sluggish when moving today. O (5,1) Dunbar’s Linirgor Piper’s Song, another well-presented bitch from this kennel, shown in a glamorous golden coat, clean eye-catching outline, nice head with a dark eye, straight legs with cat-like feet, text book length of muscular neck, good front angulation, strong topline , correct amount of second thigh, straight rear pasterns, moved with drive & correct footfall around the ring. Expertly handled. Strongly considered in the final line up but when viewed straight on, I preferred the front & head of the puppy winner. 2. Little’s Bluebraes Jacobite Lass, very nice type, happy girl with a constant wagging tail, shown to advantage on a loose lead, attractive outline but carrying a little extra weight, very lovely head with a dark eye, straight front legs with great cat-like feet, correctly angulated front, well ribbed, good topline, very well off for rear angulation, moved well. 3. Purdie’s Megarvey Itty Bitty Boo JW.
