Birmingham & District Gundog & Terrier Club

IRISH RED AND WHITE SETTER

I commend The Birmingham & District Gundog & Terrier Club who hosted a highly attended twin group open show on 19th November 2022 in Ryton on Dunsmore. The comradery of the exhibitors was noticeable, and all made the most of it in a cozy setting. However, it should be noted that the venue’s floor surface prevented my ring exhibits from driving in movement due to the slippery surface. It was my great pleasure to undertake my first judging appointment in my breed specialism. My job was made easy by the quality of the exhibits before me.

PD (1) 1 Jakins’ Coolfin Murchard - I was greeted by a delightfully vivacious young male who at a mere 10 months showed breed type. Head was elegant with correct stop definition. Pleasing dark eye and correct ear set. Nose pigmentation was jet black something one would like to see more of in the breed. He has lovely facial markings which are correct for the breed and add to his striking appearance. He has a long way to maturation but already possesses well laid-back shoulders, muscular physique with promising formation of depth of chest and sprung ribs. In movement, he showed his age, but it is evident that the gait is dynamic and long. With a little more firmness by the handler he should soon be gliding in the ring. He was my Best Puppy and Res BOS.

OD (1) 1 Jakins’ Int Sh Ch/Nl/Lux/Bel Ch Terne Des Coris Qalimero at Coolfin JW (Imp Bel) Sire to my best puppy, it is easy to see where he gets his handsome looks from. Another sound example of an elegant male with good proportions throughout. Kind expression and dark eye. Well sprung ribs and length of loin demonstrates a very nice solid topline. The poor floor surface made it difficult for him to achieve a dynamic gait both in front and rear. Powerful rear with tight feet, broad and well-muscled. He was my BOS and BOB.
