Kooikerhondje Club Of Great Britain

Kooikerhondje Club of GB Open Show
12th June 2022

Thank you to the Kooikerhondje Club of GB for inviting me to judge your club show and for my steward, Bill Moulton, for keeping things moving throughout the classes and his efficiency with the repeat entries!

I first judged the breed back in 2008 and since then have watched them develop in both numbers, type and construction across the UK. While the construction has improved, some of the best made dogs are a little longer cast and starting to lose the description of “a nearly square body with length slightly more than height at shoulders”. Something judges and breeders need to be aware of.

JUNIOR DOG Entries: 1 Abs: 0

1st Wallis’ Gladsheim Veritas – What a way to start the day. Lovely sized male with moderately curved skull, slight wedge to muzzle with deep brown, almond eyes and well feathered ears set just above eye level. Compact, oval feet this young lad was correctly made with well laid back shoulder and good angulation fore and aft. Well muscled, he moved with good extension and the showing, spring movement desired, with the ideal tail carriage. Pleased to award him Best Dog and Best in Show.

YEARLING DOG Entries: 1 Abs: 0

1st Wallis’ Gladsheim Veritas – 1st Junior Dog

POST GRADUATE DOG Entries: 7 Abs: 1

1st Davies’ Millhanger Kemboy – A lovely dog to stand at the top of this class. Good size with lovely head and expressive dark eye and well feathered ears sitting just above eye level. Balanced muzzle with slight wedge and close fitting lips. Good front with well laid back shoulders, with good bone and standing on oval feet. Strong, level topline, leading to slight slope to croup with well set tail that was carried and held just above the back on the stand and move. Moved well and true, with good reach and drive.
2nd Conway’s Shakespeare Agamemnon – A smaller dog but remains balanced throughout. Sweet head and expression. Level topline, moved true and carried his tail well.
3rd Gutteridge’s Benitin Trojan
Res Atwood’s Twybrook Mistle Marillion
VHC Hearson’s Gladsheim Acer at Jumasue

LIMIT DOG Entries: 3 Abs: 3

1st Suiter’s Genetika Rumpelstiltskin – A well made dog, although slightly longer cast than ideal. Lovely head with well feathered ears, correctly set and almond shaped eyes. Elbows close to body and forelegs straight, with good bone and standing on oval feet. Well laid back shoulders and return of upper arm, giving sufficient forechest. Balanced to the rear angulation with good turn of stifle. Level topline and used his tail well on the move. Reserve best dog and reserve best in show.
2nd. Whitehead’s Gladsheim Helios – A dog I have done well before but today he just didn’t bring his ‘A’ game. But he still screams Kooiker. His nearly square body with length just slightly more than height. He moved well with good use of his tail. Today he just had the tendency to stand 10 to 2 which stood him 2nd in this class today.
3rd Guy’s Gladsheim Eleodoro

OPEN DOG Entries: 3 Abs: 0

1st. Suiter’s Chriskoois Octavius – A balanced dog and lovely size and well made throughout. He moved well from all angles. Slight curve to the skull with dark, almond shaped eyes, wedge muzzle without snipiness. Straight forelegs and in hind, well sprung ribs with strong, level topline and correct tail set & carriage. In lovely coat and condition. Today he just had to give way to the youngsters, I understand his son & grandson.
2nd. Brook’s Papikoi Timeout – A larger dog in height, length, and bone, but he is balanced throughout. He is very well made with good lay back of shoulder and return of upper arm and rear to match. Dark, almond shaped eye although too broad in head for me. He has lovely rich colour and moved well.
3rd. Guy’s Gladsheim Eleodoro

VETERAN DOG Entries: 1 Abs: 0

1st Williams’ Cairnbraid Onwaba Lukimbi of Gladsheim – Nearly square in appearance, this veteran moved true and had correct footfall, he just looked a little sluggish in the class as the weather was getting warmer. He is well made throughout and holds a strong, level topline. Sweet head and would like a little more length in muzzle. Dark, almond eye and well feathered ears set just above the eye.

VHC Irving’s Kerfkooiker Guinevere

VETERAN BITCH Entries: 5 Abs: 1
This was a tough class, and they could all change places on another day.
1st Suiter’s Cirtaps Hertogin Freya Van Qira-T – This girl was showing from the moment she entered the ring, all the way to the end. Lovely for type and construction with her nearly square body shape, good height, sufficient bone and straight forelegs and hind legs. Well made throughout and moved with reach and drive, showing the springy movement. Best Bitch, Best Opposite Sex and Best Veteran in Show. She just had to give way to her Grandson and Son for the top honours today.
2nd. Williams’ Daniella Vom Thyrowberg to Gladsheim ShCM – I have admired this bitch from when I first judged her as a youngster, and she is still a top draw quality bitch today who shows no sign of slowing down, especially on the move. Lovely head and skull, good angulation fore & aft and well made. She holds herself well and is in great condition. Considered for Reserve Bitch, but just lost out to a youngster,
3rd Guy’s Cirtaps Prinses Bynton Ida Rose MK (Imp Swe).
Res Groom’s Cairnbraid Menina Selva at Middanwinter

2nd Guy’s Cirtaps Prinses Bynton Ida Rose MK (Imp Swe) – 3rd in the very tough veteran bitch class. She left her coat at home which was a deciding factor in her previous class against tough competition, but there is still lots to like. She is well made with a pretty head and lovely curved skull. She is balanced through the body and good angulation fore & aft, holding a strong, level topline. Moves true and another who defies that she is in veteran.
