English setter

Post Graduate

1st – Catton & Cook’s Valsett Starlite Sky Storm with Ferngate - 2 year old dog and starting to mature. Good head, skull rounded, muzzle deep and square with dark, oval eye and low set ears. Muscular neck into well placed shoulders and good return of upper arm. Deep chest, round bone, standing on close well-arched feet. Strong level topline and short, muscular loin. Well made in the rear with good angulation and good width of thigh. Tail carried well and happy on the move and well balanced in profile movement. Best of breed and pleased to hear he went on to take Gundog Group 4.

Open

1st – Oliver’s Bramstorm Speckled Wood - a 3 year old bitch who was happy going and enjoying her day, making it difficult for her handler however, carrying a bit too much weight today. Very pretty head with lovely oval eye, deep muzzle and ears set on low. Balanced in angulation with good width of thigh. Level top line held on the stand and move. Moved enthusiastically today and possibly not her best. Reserve best of breed.

Irish setter

Post Graduate

Two very different bitches in this class.

1st – Fox & Fiders’ Kerryfair Heart to Heart - A 19 month old bitch with a very pretty head defining the standard of long and lean, without being snipy, skull oval and enough width. Lovely shaped unshelled almond eye showing a kind, intelligent expression. Strong neck leading to shoulders not as well laid back as I would have liked but balanced return of upperarm. Would have liked more slope to the topline, but she is still young. Good rear angulation. Standing on OK feet she had a good amount of bone but does tend to lose the racy feel. Moved okay. Best of breed

2nd – Crombie & Stuart-Cook’s Bardonhill Going for gold at Dawnglo - A 2 year old bitch who was very racy although a bit too lean and still needs to develop through the ribs. There is still time for her to mature. Lean head and shows a lovely expression. Correct narrow front with okay depth of chest. A bit too long in second thigh and not enough bend through stifle and hock joint. Was not wanting to move today and was very messy. Would like to see her again in a couple of years.

Open

1st – Fox’s Kerryfair Special Diamond - A 4 year old bitch who has the most beautiful head, long and lean with oval skull and moderate, clean muzzle. Ear set on low, held close to head. Dark well shaped eye gave her a melting expression. Long in body through the ribs and the loin, angulation okay and balanced fore and aft. Correct tight feet. She moved true fore and aft, but in profile lacked drive in the rear. Reserve best of breed.
