Labrador Retrievers

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at this lovely show. Unfortunately, the ring had several areas of sawdust covering soiled areas from previously judged breeds, and I did allow for this in my assessment of movement.

P. (11, 4)

1. Edwards’s KIMBAJAK MISS JAZZ SWINGER. Super yellow bitch of 11 months, giving an overall balanced outline. Lovely Labrador head, with a kind eye, well placed ears, which were used to good effect. Good front construction, nicely sprung rib. Excellent topline, held on the move, correct otter-tail. Strong legs with good width of thigh and well let down hocks. Moved precisely with drive. BP.

2. Walker & Bradd’s BUDDINWILLOW ALL SHOOK UP. Black baby dog, who just needs time and training to come to his best. Nice head with correct colour eyes, nicely constructed throughout, level topline, good bone and tail. Moved well.

3. Lambert’s MATTAND SCARLET WITCH

J. (9, 7)

1. Horton’s FLYENPYG SHUT YA PIE HOLE. Two blacks in this class with little between them. Preferred the head of 2nd, but 1st won on overall balance. Bitch with pleasing construction throughout, well-muscled and shown in good condition. Good otter tail. Moved well.

2. Moore & Adams’s BUDDINWILLOW COOL RUNNINGS. Baby puppy, who I see is litter brother to 2nd in puppy, similar comments apply. Again he just needs more time to learn his job in order to present himself to his best in the ring. Gorgeous head, and nice construction.

SY. (9, 7)

1. Horton’s FLYENPYG SHUT YA PIE HOLE.

2. Sadlers’ TALIFEN GENTLEMAN JACK. Nice yellow dog, presenting a pleasing outline. Lovely head with melting expression, good ear set, strong neck leading to correct shoulders and well sprung rib. Excellent bone. Strong rear which helped him to move well, just not as well as 1.

PG. (6, 3)

1. Richmond’s BRIGGLEBANK BLISS. Black bitch of good type, presenting a balanced outline both standing and on the move. Pretty head, excellent front angulation, well-sprung ribs, excellent coat. Moved well.

2. Horton’s FLYENPYG SHUT YA PIE HOLE.

3. Moore & Adams’s HELIZAVE MISTY MORNING AT BUDDINWILLOW.

OD. (3, 2)

1. Smith’s FLYENPYG PORKY PIG. Four year old yellow dog, presented in fit, hard condition giving a very pleasing overall outline. Super masculine head, but not overdone in any way, with kind eye. Good angulation front and rear. Good barrel rib, short-coupling and level topline, held on the move as he drove round the ring. Pushed hard for top honours today, just preferred the overall type of the ultimate winner.

OB. (6, 3)

1. Ayres’s TANTADECORUS ISLE OF SHUNA MUSUBI. Black bitch of just over 3 years, my notes say – what’s not to like! Excellent breed type and construction, presenting a balanced outline. Lovely head, with typical Labrador expression, good reach of neck into well placed shoulders. In excellent coat. Moved well with drive, covering the ground with ease. BOB.

2. Edwards’s KIMBAJAK FLIRTY GERTY. Yellow bitch a little younger than the class winner, and of a different, yet equally good breed type. Lovely head and expression, good front angulation, level topline and solid rear quarters. Moved well, just not with the drive of 1.

3. Bishop’s MYSTICAL SKYE.
