Border Counties Gundog Club

English Springer Spaniel Puppy (2/2)

Both lovely puppies litter mates – came down to who presented themselves better on the day, with time I am sure they will both swap places regularly.

1st and BPIB and great to see him go on to win BPIS. Calvert’s Calvdale Ever Thus beautiful puppy dog, more settled than sister on the day, correct head and eyes with correct slightly rounded skull. Strong neck into correct shoulders, well boned forequarters. Well muscled hindquarters for youngster.

2nd Calvert’s Calvdale Pure Theatre Litter sister to 1st very unsettled at times, but clear to see that she is also a lovely puppy. Beautiful head neck and shoulders, slightly shorter than her brother, once she had been round the ring a few times it was clear to see her good forward action.

English Springer Spaniel Graduate (2/3)

1st and BOB Calvert’s Calvdale Scaramouch Jones Liver and white dog, correct head and eye, into a strong muscular neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Correct topline and tailset and strong muscular hindquarters. Moved freely and with drive – a true showman at all times.

2nd Calvert’s Calvdale Pure Theatre

English Springer Spaniel Limit (1/1)

1st Calvert’s Calvdale Hostage of Fortune Liver and White bitch, beautiful head and eye, good front and rear, well sprung ribs, and strong hindquarters - didn’t move as well as she could today unfortunately letting her down for BOB.

1st Barber-Bell Kalispell Couer De Lion Blue Roan dog, nice square muzzle and well developed Skull with correct dark eyes. Muscular neck set into fine sloping shoulders. Well sprung ribs, a little longer in loin, good tailset, overall a larger dog but balanced with it.

Cocker Spaniel Limit dog (1/1)

1st Lowery Amaroanne Theos JW Blue road with correct head and neck into good shoulders and well sprung ribs, short loin into correct tailset, correct bend of stifle. Moved ok.

Cocker Spaniel Open Dog (2/2)

1st BD and BOB Lowery Amaroanne Apollo JW – Eventual best of breed winner in agreement with my co-judge of the breed. Well deserved. Overall a well balanced dog with correct cocker outline. Blue roan with pleasing head and eye. Correct sloping shoulders with nice well boned forequarters, compact body with well sprung ribs and short loin. Level gently sloping topline from loin into correct tailset and carriage. Moved well with drive. Lovely coat presentation, not overcoated.

2nd Fajardo Glowhill Spicks and Specks at San Matayo. Nice head, not as balanced overall but moved well.

Junior Handling.

All juniors tried really hard on the day, all had some real positives and some areas for development but I am sure they will continue to learn over time - please take on board some of the hints for improvements below rather than seeing them as a criticism.

6-11years

1st Josie Thwaites aged 8 – handling a young flatcoated retriever – Dog clearly loves its handler and she did very well to have the dog focused in the free standing position, kept her dog under control on the move however could use the ring better for movement patterns.

2nd Tobias Duncanson aged 6 Handling a Chesapeake Bay Retriever – did so well with such a big dog, again a dog that clearly loved his young handler. Free stood the dog well and Moved the dog so well on the first time round but unfortunately got between the dog and judge at other times.

I am sure both of these handlers will have a bright future, please continue to encourage them as they are the future of dog shows and remember to keep practicing – ask others Junior handlers with help with your patterns.

12-16 years

1st and BJH Amy Mir Handling a Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla. Quiet and calm handler who stacked her dog well. Moved dog well, still room for improvement on movement patterns – watch where the judge is and return to them.
