Longcoats
Firstly, please accept my apologies for the delay in publishing my critiques. Many of you will be aware that I have been suffering from health problems over the last few months. Fortunately, I had written detailed notes and taken photographs of the dogs to be able to write my critiques. Many thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge, and for the excellent hospitality. This is a venue I like very much, and such a shame that the venue had made a booking error that resulted in a change of day. This impacted on the number of absentees. I found the quality of the dogs I judged superior to the bitches. On the whole I found mouths to be good, except for one or two. As I have found before, a number of dogs needed a nail trim. Nails that are too long can affect the quality of movement, so it is always worth ensuring nails are well maintained to show the dog at its best and to get the best possible movement out of them.

Alarion’s T’As Lelook Coco De L’Isle Au Vert Coteau. 8-month-old, red. A very smart looking little lad. Stood alone in the class but very much deserved his placing, and the subsequent awards that followed. He is compact and well proportioned, and well coated for such a youngster. A good bite, and a pretty head, typical of the breed standard. He carried a lovely level topline and moves well both fore and aft, with good angulation. He is a confident little chap, who I am sure has a bright future ahead of him. BPD, BPIB, RBPIS

Stangoe’s Stanghurst Top Gun. Just turned 12 months old, red sable. I’ve admired this little man from the ringside. He is a smart boy, with lovely proportions, and an ideal size. A typical Chihuahua head with large expressive eyes and a good length of neck. He displays just enough coat, which has the soft silky texture it should have. He commands attention on the table, and is well schooled in this element. He has a good turn of stifle, which I feel is lacking in quite a lot of dogs. He had the best movement in the class; brisk, forceful and accurate when he was settled. Pushed hard for BOB/RBOB but was unsettled in the line up in the challenge, which let him down at a critical point.
Lee’s Ridgehawk Chilier Sandie. Almost 18-month-old, red. Very nicely proportioned, with body slightly longer than leg. Pleasing head, with nicely domed skull and large eyes. Carried a level topline throughout the class, and moved well both fore and aft, good turn of stifle and sound angulation, however, I preferred the head and movement on 1.
Hill’s Jahneemahs Little Bear with Becanna

Edwards’ Tinasjoy Super Dupper. Just turned 18 months, cream. He has a very level topline and a head typical of breed type. Good reach of neck and well set on tail which he held on the move. He is a little out of coat at the moment, and was more interested in what he could hoover up from the floor than showing, which let him down in the challenge. Well bodied but would benefit from more schooling in order to show him off to his best.
PGD (3,2)
Graham’s Donami Jenson Button. Almost 6 years old, cream. A happy little lad with a good topline. He has a nice turn of stifle and is a well-balanced dog. Nicely pigmented. He is well coated, and his coat is in very good condition. He has a tendency to crab from the rear when on the move, which can make his rear movement harder to assess, but I suspect this could be improved with a nail trim.
LD (2,1)
Lee’s Aristodemos Future Legend of Ridgehawk. 3-year-old, fawn sable. A cobby, compact dog with a lovely temperament. Pleasing head; nicely domed with typical saucy expression and a muzzle of correct proportions and not overdone. Tail displays a lovely plume, and he has an excellent coat with the right amount of furnishings. Movement was accurate with good reach and drive. Pushed hard during the challenge.
OD (3,1)
Smart-McMullan’s Doobyave Du Bois. 2.5-year-old, tri colour. I took myself a bit by surprise here because until I got hands on with this dog, I had not appreciated his qualities. He is undoubtedly a showman. His head is typical of breed type. He has a spirit level topline which he holds on the stand and on the move. Tail is well set and well used. What I hadn’t appreciated about him until I got underneath his coat was that he has an excellent turn of stifle and well arched neck – something that is hidden by his coat, and lacking in many. He has an excellent mouth and moves with well powered rear drive to achieve the desired reach. BD and BOB.
Grey’s Yorone Going for Gold. 4.5 years old, fawn. A compact and well-balanced dog with well held topline and correctly set on tail. He has pleasing rear movement and front movement is OK, but would have preferred a little more neck and more turn of stifle. He handles well for his owner.
VD (2,1)
Hill’s Ch Lynpix the Mexican with Becanna. 7-year-old, sable and white. It is easy to see why this chap is a champion. The first comment I wrote in my notes was ‘beautiful dog’. He has excellent movement, excellent turn of stifle, excellent coat kept in fantastic condition. He has a correct bite, but is sporting some plaque now, belying of his age. Initially I though he would be my BD, however, the open winner just had the edge today in terms of showmanship and dentition. Although two very different dogs, both have quality in abundance and I was splitting hairs. RBD, RBOB, BVD, BVIB.
MPB (3,1)
Taylor’s Chantaydan Strike A Pose. Almost 9 months old, tri colour. A well-balanced little girl, with a head typical of the breed. She demonstrated excellent showmanship and was the more mature exhibit in the class. She has a good turn of stifle and a nicely developing coat. Dentition is OK, front movement is good but rear movement was a little close today. In the challenge for best puppy I preferred the dentition and movement on the PB class winner. I suspect that as she matures she will improve.
Edwards’ Chibull Crackling Rosie. Just 6 months old, cream and white. A very raw baby at her first show. Understandably, she lacks confidence at this stage, and as a result dropped her tail and was cautious when moving which made it difficult to accurately assess her movement. However, I particularly liked her head; it reminded me more of Chihuahuas of yesteryear, not overdone in anyway, but nevertheless with breed type and good dentition. Nicely balanced and with good turn of stifle, with more ring craft I hope she will build her confidence and ring presence.
PB (2,1)
Foley’s Tyssul Dainty Delilah with Tamilay. 8 months old, red and white. A very pretty little lady that I liked a lot. Excellent head full of breed type, and super dentition. Level topline with good turn of stifle and a nice reach of neck. She moves really well, with a brisk and forceful action, but she would benefit from a slightly faster pace in order to show off her movement at its best. One I would have liked to have taken home. In the challenge for BB she stood out as the best in terms of the overall package – breed type, movement, and construction. However, in the challenge for BOB, the dog was more mature, with more confidence, and slightly better movement. I wrote in my notes “I really like this Bitch”! BPB and BB.
JB (2,0)
Grey’s Chennelchis La Vie En Rose. 15 months old, gold and white. A very pretty girl that I actually liked a lot. A nice head that is not overdone and has large expressive eyes. A well-balanced dog, with good substance of bone; I really liked her sound construction. She moves well both fore and aft. However, she lacks confidence and drops her tail as a result. Unfortunately, this cost her in a later class when she came up against a more confident exhibit. I do hope she can gain her showing mo-jo!
Edwards’ Torre Del Pilar Luna (Imp Esp) NAF TAF. 14-month-old, cream. A pretty head and well pigmented. Nicely placed and used ears. Dentition OK. Fine in bone structure and well-balanced. Preferred the structure and coat of 1.
SYB (3,1)
Taylor’s Chantaydan Pray for Poetry. 19-month-old, tri colour. Dainty, compact and well balanced. Well proportioned head with nice dome and good dentition. Nicely placed and used ears, level topline, which she held on the move. Front movement is good, rear movement a little close today. Much more confident than 2 and therefore demonstrated better showmanship and ring presence.
Grey’s Chennelchis La Vie En Rose – as JB

Edwards’ Tinasjoy Dollie Daydream. 18 months old, black and tan. Lovely head; nice shape to dome, expressive eyes and well-set ears. Lean cheeks with correct muzzle and stop. Fore movement is ok, but a little close behind today. Well balanced in terms of body to leg length. In the challenge, I preferred the bite and rear movement of the winner. RBB.
LB (1,0)
Edwards’ Neo Fabulous Nadia Christine. 4 years old, cream and white. Pretty expression framed by a well domed head and dark expressive eyes. Rear movement was good, with a good turn of stifle. Front movement was a little wide today. Lovely coat of correct length. Dentition would benefit from some attention, but her bite was ok.
