23rd October 2022

Judge: Paulina O’Gorman – Berrymeade

I would like to thank the Committee of Kirkintilloch, Lenzie & District CS for inviting me to judge at this friendly and so well organised show. The venue was very pleasant, rings were big, and I had 2 lovely stewards who kept the ring going. Thank you to the Exhibitors for entering their dogs and for giving me the chance to go over them, as well as for gracefully accepting all my decisions.

I found the quality of Goldens of a high level, as well as temperaments that were typical for the breed. It is fair to say that when making my decisions I was splitting hairs, especially in the beautiful puppy class where I found so many lovely youngsters.

GOLDEN RETRIEVER

PUPPY (7, 1a)

What a fabulous class of quality puppies!

1. Harper’s TULLOCHMOHR SHOOTING STAR AT GLYNERVA JW Such an elegant, balanced young bitch with a lovely clean outline. Gorgeous, feminine head, excellent reach of neck, good layback, super forechest, correct length of leg, strong topline. Good front and rear angulation, straight, well let down hocks, lovely feet. Very sound, level mover and so very focused on her handler. She’s a pleasure to watch in the ring.

2. Ellis’ TENFIELD SPARKLING SUNRISE Another very pretty young lady with a gorgeous head and kind expression. This mid gold girl in super coat presented a balanced outline with everything in the right place. Excellent layback and upper arm, super topline that she held on the move, short coupled with good fore and aft angulation. Super bone and feet, good bend of stifle. Another one moving so soundly, but just so unlucky to have met the winner today.

JUNIOR (7, 3a)

1. Harper’s TULLOCHMOHR SHOOTING STAR AT GLYNERVA JW

2. King’s CLEDDANS DREAMING OF SUMMER A lovely 1 year old boy with great body proportions. Masculine head with kind expression. Excellent flow of neck into a strong topline. Correct length of leg, matching front and rear angulation, short coupled body. Not overdone in any way. Super bone and feet. Moved out well.

GRADUATE (1, 0a)

1. Hunter’s GLENRIOCH ROCK OF AGES I really liked this 2 year old boy who just walks into his stand and presents a lovely outline. Gorgeous, masculine head, good reach of neck, super topline. Super forechest and length of upper arm, short coupled body, straight legs of correct length. So focused on his handler gently wagging his tail. A very happy boy that moved out well presenting good reach and drive. I could picture him in the field doing a day’s work.

2. Hill’s & Smith’s MEGARVEY CLEMENTINE JW 19 months old mid gold bitch in super condition and quite up to size. Pretty head and good reach of neck, good forechest, strong quarters and topline. Excellent length of leg and super feet. Moved with reach and drive. While she had balanced angles fore and aft, she was just a bit longer in body than first.

POST GRADUATE (3, 2a)

1. Paterson’s TRYSTINTHORN MISS ELIZA This lovely, deep gold lady stood on her own in this class, albeit she deserved the win. Very eye pleasing with everything flowing, so full of quality. Feminine head set on a strong neck flowing into well laid-back shoulders. Excellent forechest and length of upper arm. Super bone, good feet, correct length of leg. Level topline and excellent front and rear angulation. Neat, short hocks. Moved freely presenting good reach and drive. One I considered for top honours. Handled to advantage.

LIMIT (8, 2a)

1. Palmer’s & White’s LINIRGOR PERFECT SYMPHONY OF CAIRNGLEN She truly has it all! Such a lovely example of the breed, everything is flowing. Ultra feminine, beautiful head and expression, super reach of neck, excellent layback, level topline. So not overdone with her moderate angulation, strong legs of correct length and good bone, super feet. Well ribbed body and short coupled. She moved so well and so effortlessly. She pushed hard for BOB, just needed a bit more coat to complete the picture. Handled beautifully. RBOB

2. McAlpine’s DRUMKILTY MAIREAD A 5 year old bitch with the prettiest head and similar remarks to the winner. I liked her a lot for the overall balance and beautiful shape, so eye catching. These two girls could easily swap places on another occasion.

OPEN (5, 1)

This class was led by the two lovely boys.

1. Laidlaw-Good’s & McShane’s FHAIRMHOR HAUD YER WHEESHT AT RIGERIN He caught my eye the moment he entered the ring. Freestanding dog in rich gold coat with a masculine head and kind expression, well off bone. Excellent reach of neck and layback, level topline. Such a well-made dog with super proportions and such a showman. Very eye pleasing on the move, presenting good reach and drive and so connected to the handler. A joy to watch a dog enjoying his time in the ring so much. This super dog, I am sure, has a bright future ahead of him. BOB and Group 1

2. Ellis’ TENFIELD REX IMPERATOR JW With similar attributes to the winner of the class, he presents a balanced outline and he’s in great condition. Another one shown free and although a bit unsettled today, he moved out straight and true with drive. Very enjoyable to watch. One I judged before as a youngster, much more mature now and still doesn’t disappoint, a really lovely example of the breed.
