Central Bernese Mountain Dog Club

Central Bernese Mountain Dog Club Open Show 2022

8th May.

I would like to say thank you so much to the exhibitors for their fantastic entry, also to Pat and Julie for inviting me to judge this show. The quality of dogs on display was very high, particularly in bitches, which made decisions on the day very tough. I am pleased to say since I last judged, tail sets and carriage has improved massively. Things which must be watched going forward is level bites and temperaments. Some lovely dogs were sadly nervous on the day, which is not typical temperament. I wish the owners all the best on getting these dogs confident in the ring.

Veteran Dog:

1st- Monalou Spirit of Discovery Sh. CM

A 7 year old boy, looking well for his age. He has a masculine head, dark eye, pleasing expression and correct mouth. He is medium height with good bone to match. He has a nice neck length running into well laid shoulders. He could do with being a little wider through chest. His topline was great on the day, his strong rear making him move well. Well turned out and showed well.

Minor Puppy Dog:

1st Oscar Riomade Grande of Rodiveco NAF TAF

A very raw baby, just 6 months. He is a well grown pup, of beautiful shape in profile. His head is well marked, eyes could be better at this age, his mouth is excellent. He has a correct length neck, lovely shoulders and front assembly. His forelegs are straight, strong and has neat feet. His topline was great considering is age, he has good depth through his chest. His rear was well angulated, tail set and length were excellent. On the move he was ok, lots of firming up to do. Excellent temperament.

Puppy Dog:

1st Bernolli Dragon Heart At Bernannan (imp RUS)

10 months old, medium size boy, for me at this age I would like him bigger all over, but still has plenty of time. He is well marked, flat head, broad muzzle. He has a nice dark eye and correct mouth. His front is a little narrow through the chest. Topline was strong and straight when standing and on the move. His rear is shapely, short hocks, moved well today. BPD

Junior Dog:

1st Kingstonska One Step Beyond

Really liked this dog, noticed he is sired by my best dog winner. He was a handful for his owner today, but I think he will make a lovely male. He is a darkly marked boy, with a lovely head maturing nicely. His neck is of correct length, well laid shoulders, good width of chest. His topline was firm, tail set bang on, but the joy of this boy is in his rear. Well bent stifles, lovely angles throughout, giving him great power on the move. He covers ground very well when settled, a little soft in front today, but will improve with maturity.

Yearling Dog:

1st Jaybiem Only Making Plans

23 months male, medium size, would like him a little bigger, however his overall look is well balanced and sturdy throughout. He has a good head, masculine and well marked. He is well boned for his size, has a firm front, great depth and width of chest. Through the back he is of correct length, strong loin, his rear is firm, I would like more bend in his stifle. On the move he was sound coming and going.

2nd Lowcroft High Hopes.

2 year old boy, different in type to 1st, however they have the same sire. I preferred this dogs height to my winner, however he was narrower throughout and had lighter bone. He has a pleasing head, masculine with a good eye, lengthy neck. In the front he is narrow however his forelegs are straight so this will improve once he fills out. He had a flat topline, nice tail and set. He moved well when settled but gave his owner a hard time.

Post Graduate Dog:

1st Valentinn Vom Durrbachler Wald (imp)

2 year old male, of fantastic breed type. Presented in wonderful condition, he presents a lovely picture standing. He has a masculine head with a good stop and flat skull. He has a good mouth, enough neck, lovely well laid shoulders. He is well made throughout, deep chest, well sprung ribs, hard loin not too long. His rear is wonderful, well bent stifles, low short hocks, correct tail set and carriage. He moved today very soundly, clean coming and going. Another boy who will go onto bigger things, considered him highly in the dog challenge. I would like him a touch longer in leg.

2nd Fortonpark Talk of the Town

Another lovely male, who was well presented. Beautifully marked boy, maturing nicely. In great coat today, and looked a picture standing. Better height for me than the winner. He is a lovely type with a masculine head, dark eye and flat skull. He is well boned, deep chested, could do with a little more neck to compliment his length. His ribs were well sprung and a little long in loin. His rear was strong, moved very well today.

3rd Monalou Galloping Gourmet

A repeat mating of the Veteran Dog winner, 3.5 year old male with a pleasing head, good eye and mouth. He presents a sturdy dog, who is well boned and a balanced outline. He does tend to stand a little close in front, however he is wide enough. Through his body he is firm, a good length, today he was a little soft in hocks when moving. Well presented.

Limit dog:

1st Parwizz Vom Durrbachler Wald at Arvella (imp)

3.5 year old male, absolutely just what I was looking for. He was my Best Dog and Reserve BIS winner here today in great company. He has the most wonderful head and expression. Solid built boy of correct proportions, ideal for size. Going over him, I find him hard to fault, lovely front, great depth and width of chest. Topline is flat and firm, although his coat can make him look a bit bum high, he is not. His body is deep and ribs were well sprung. His rear is a delight, well angulated, well muscled. Hocks were short and strong and well furnished. His tail was well set and carried correctly on the move. When moving he was utterly sound, clean coming and going. He was handled fantastically today and didn’t put a foot wrong. He was unlucky having to compete with such a wonderful bitch for Best in Show.

2nd Waldershelf Cubby Ad Astra

A little over 2 years old this boy, still plenty of time to mature. Beat his litter mate today, just felt he was a bit more balanced in profile. This boy is an attractive picture stacked, he has a masculine head, dark eye, well set ears of correct size. He stands well, straight forelegs and rear is neat and tidy. He moved well today however was proud of his tail. Well groomed and handled very well.

3rd Waldershelf Fame ‘n’ Fortune

Litter brother to 1, shown in absolutely wonderful condition. Jet black coat was gleaming. He is slightly smaller than his brother, however shares many good qualities. He moved wonderfully today, sound coming and going, well handled.

Open Dog:

1st Ch Cullumbern Milano JW

A solid shorter type, compact dog, who stands totally square. He was presented in lovely coat and condition. His head is totally masculine and finely marked. He is hard to fault when going over him, his front is well angulated, shoulders are well laid, this is matched by an equally well angulated rear giving a balanced appearance. He moved out with reach and good drive from behind. At times he was a little untidy in front which resulted in giving the Limit winner Best Dog. He is a quality Champion, pleased to award him Res Best Dog.

2nd Ch Shirdees Greatest Showman at Jukesbern

Another worthy Champion in this strong class. Not even 3 years old this one, so the best is yet to come. A good size, masculine boy with a wonderful head. He has the flattest of skulls, good stop, eyes are dark, broad muzzle giving a lovely expression. I really liked his overall shape and bone. He was well made throughout, slightly longer in body than 1st, however not too long. He has good depth of chest, well sprung ribs, the rear is strong, and he moved with good reach and drive. He was a little messy coming towards me sometimes, however very nice from behind and profile. Well presented and very well handled.

3rd Jaybiem Modus Operandi JW

4 year old, a lovely boy from this kennel. Maturing very well. The quality of these 3 boys made this decision very hard. He is a good sized dog, with strong bone to match. Masculine head, great eye and excellent mouth. His muzzle is short and skull flat giving the desired head. He has a good length of neck, he is well angulated front and rear, giving him a pleasing overall shape. On the move he was sound both coming and going but seemed a little tired on the day.

Veteran Bitch:

1st Meadowpark Dream Come True with Kingstonska Sh CM.

Hard to believe this bitch is 8 years old. She is fabulous. Just my type, she is such a picture standing. She is a medium sized bitch, with a beautiful head and eye. She is well boned for her size. Her front is broad, deep and well ribbed, the rear is well angulated, short powerful hocks, giving her a shapely appearance. She was presented in lovely condition, well handled, she literally flew around the ring like a junior. Nice to see her wagging her tail enjoying her day out. Best Veteran In Show.

Minor Puppy Bitch:

1st Lowcroft Gilding The Lily

A well grown youngster, around 8 months, a little shy at first but got better after handling her. She is an above medium size bitch who shows a lot of promise at this age. She has a pretty head, flat skull, nice eye and mouth. Her neck is of good length, nice width through her front. At present she is a little straight in the rear when standing, however on the move, she moves out really well. Nice and sound today coming and going.

A very raw bitch, loosing out to 1 on maturity. She is a darkly marked bitch who is all legs at the moment. Her head is pretty, eyes could be darker, good mouth. Her front was well boned, straight forelegs and plenty of width throughout. Her rear was a little straight behind at present. On the move her handler got the best out of her, she moved well.

A real quality young bitch, full of promise. Very well-schooled and immaculately presented. She is very feminine, lovely eye and expression. I liked her substance for her size, she really is a pleasing package. She has strong bone, neat tight feet, her topline was flat and her tail was carried correctly. On the move she was very sound coming and going, really in tune with her handler. I’m expecting a promising future for her. Best Puppy In Show.

2nd Monalou Voulez Vouz at Blumental

Another very nice puppy. This was a hard decision between the two. Again, another youngster with a promising career ahead of her. Classically marked bitch, beautiful head and eye. In lovely coat. She is very well put together, strong bone, nice size, good depth throughout. She was a little bit unsure at first but once moved she settled down. She moved nice and clean, good reach and drive. Im sure these two will change places.

Junior Bitch:

1st Chanel Kielo Cud At Morgenmegs

A shapely bitch, utterly feminine. She had a nice length of neck, strong shoulders, correct upper arm, strong pastern. Her topline was like a table top, totally out of coat for all to see. She was well angulated in the rear, short hocks, once settled moved well. She was sound coming and going. Gave her handler a hard time today, be nice to see her when she has matured and in coat.

On the move she was foot perfect for her handler, who got the best out of her. Will have a bright future.

2nd Kaimon Gerheil Kiss Me Softly For Elbrusbern (imp EST)

Unlucky to meet winner here, very different in type, however she is certainly a well made bitch. Darker marked than 1st, however this doesn’t distract from her femininity. She has the loveliest eye, good mouth, strong neck. Level topline. She could do with a little more bone for me. On the move she was excellent, true coming and going. Well handled and shown in great condition.

3rd Kingstonska Northern Soul

A taller cast bitch, totally out of coat, which made her appear more leggy than she actually is. This was a hard class, and im sure with maturity and coat, places will change. She is a nice bitch, ideal for size, stood very straight in front, up on her pasterns. I would like to see her a little more stretched out behind when stacked. On the move she was well animated and moved well.

3rd Malindibeach Boodles of Fun

A smaller and finer bitch than the previous two winners, I really liked her head, it was pretty, good eye and bite. She had a good length of neck.
