Newmarket & District Canine Society

Newmarket & District CS Open Show 11th & 12th June 2022

I would like to thank the Committee for my appointment and congratulate them on a very well run show. It was pleasure to judge in such a large ring, just what was needed for my two breeds. Thank you also to all the exhibitors that entered under me, especially the Smooth Collie people as I know there was a clash with a Breed Champ Show.

Siberian Husky

I had a lovely entry in this breed with some quality dogs, so I thank you all for giving me the chance to go over them.

Puppy ( 2,1 )

1 Ferretti’s Arcticskies Super Trouper for Lyrvid NAF. Grey bitch, a lovely puppy just 6 months old and attending her first show. She took it all her stride. Nice tapered head with dark almond shaped eye with a brilliant expression of devilment. Lovely elegant reach of neck which went into well laid back shoulders. Tight elbows Ribbing of the correct flattening. Good angulation front and rear. Good body length and strong rear end. Good hocks. Movement was steady for one so young and covered the ground with ease. I am sure this young lady will have a bright future, one I will watch with interest. BPIB & WPG4. Well Done

 Yearling (4,2 )

1 Simm’s Sutarka’s Angelica at Arcticskies. Grey bitch. A lot to like about this girl. A smart overall bodyshape. Another with lovely dark brown almond shaped eye Head the fox like appearance you would expect to see in this breed. Reach of neck and shoulder placement both good with the correct flattening out of rib. Once again a good length in body and rear end showing a nice turn of stifle. Her movement was effortless and she flowed around the ring with both reach and drive. I could watch her move all day, even with a different handler in the challenge she never missed a beat. Pleased to award her BOB and was thrilled to see her take WG1 and RBIS ( on the second day ). Congratulations.

2 Samuels’s Shimani Love For Life. Grey dog. Solid boy, with a heavier coat. A little wide in skull but with lovely oblique set almond shaped eye. Nice reach of neck leading into a good lay back of shoulder. Length of back was adequate length of back. Good rear end showing nice turn of stifle and strong hocks. Movement was good, showing both reach and drive.

Post Graduate ( 2,0 )

1 Ferretti’s Arcticskies Whiskey Sour For Lyrvid. Red bitch. Overall a clean outline. Head was showing the correct tapering muzzle, with almond shaped eyes in a lighter shade of brown to match coat colour. Showing her ears well. Exhibiting good reach of neck and well laid back shoulder placement. Nice flattening of rib. Strong rear end with strong muscled upper thigh and nice turn of stifle. One thing I did notice on this girl were her neat compact feet. Moved well showing good ground coverage.

2 Smith’s Arcticskies Firestorm at Arcticswirl. Red dog. Masculine head with good length of muzzle, although a steeper stop than I would like. Nice neat ear set. Heavily coated neck with good reach. Powerful laid back shoulders. Longer cast than 1. Front movement was good and would like to have seen more drive.

Open ( 3,0 )

1 Simms’s Arcticskies Silver Fox JW. Impressive white male. A heavily coated boy especially in the neck area which gave the illusion of being bigger than he is. Nice tapering of muzzle and had a beautiful impish expression. Good lay back of shoulder, and nice length of loin. Excellent turn of stifle and well let down hocks. Movement was good and strong but just not enough to match that of his kennel mate. RBOB

2 Sims’s Snowspeeder’s Anya Kuro. Grey bitch. Good length of muzzle with lovely dark almond shaped eyes. Nice arching to neck. From what I could see a good ear set, she was enjoying her day out. Movement was a little erratic but once she settled down she covered the ground well.

3 Smith’s Snoqualmie Captain Morgan at Arcticswirl

Collie ( Smooth )

Puppy ( 0 )

Yearling ( 1,1 )

Limit ( 3,1 )

1 Bemelmans’s Oakestelle Asteria. Tri colour bitch. Just coming back into coat. Nice length of muzzle although needs a tad more width of skull, lovely dark eye. Used her ears well which correct tipping. Good straight forelegs. Presenting adequate lay back of shoulder and nice tight elbows. Good length of body showing correct rise over loins. Nice turn of stifle but hocks could be a little stronger. Movement was solid giving a really good side gait. RBOB

2 Corben & Moore’s Stormsett Shadow Dancer via Caprioara. Tri colour male. Due to class clash he was not with his usual handler which unsettled him. Well up to size boy. Lovely colouring with the blackest of black coats with nice tan trim. Nice length of muzzle but wide in skull. Nice dark eye. Adequate lay back of shoulder and good length of body. Strong rear end with a good turn of stifle and strong hocks. Movement was unsettled

Open ( 2,1 )

1 Benton’s Oakestelle Artemis ShCEx. Elegant blue merle bitch. Correct tapering of muzzle. Constantly using her nice tipped ears, and exhibiting lovely dark eyes that were not missing a thing. Nice arch to neck with lead into well laid back shoulders. Tight elbows. Good length of body, rounded off by strong stifles and hocks. Movement was effortless covering the ground with ease, making it obvious that she could do a days droving. BOB. Well Done.
