Newark & District Canine Society

Thank you to the Newark & DCS committee for inviting me to judge, I was thrilled to hear I had an incredible entry of 29. I would like to thank everyone for supporting me on my first appointment and an extra special thank you to those who braved the storm to attend. I’d also like to thank my stewards who did a sterling job. There were some difficult decisions to make and on a different day a couple of these dogs could have easily swapped places.

BULLMASTIFF

Puppy (8/3)

1. Latter’s Sotarbackens Mockingjay Stoneglad NAF. A beautifully balanced 10 month old fawn bitch of great quality. Large and square skull with correct proportions, super pigmentation with a dark eye, correct ear placement, level mouth along with the most captivating expression which demands attention. Muscular neck leading to a beautiful lay of shoulder and correct front. Level topline supported by balanced angles both front and rear. Her beautiful silhouette was complimented and finished with a correct tail set. In super hard condition with great bone and substance – a very powerful bitch. Moved with drive, power & reach, A happy girl who was full of life enjoying every minute of her time in the ring, she put on a super performance. I’m sure she has a bright future ahead of her. BPIB. 2. Cochrane’s Cani Felici Bulls Apollo At Asborn (IMP POL). A 9 month old fawn male. A large square skull with correct head proportions, lovely pigmentation and a dark eye, open nostrils, correct ear placement, wide under jaw, a level mouth and a super expression. Correct front with a great width of chest, tight feet, with a muscular neck leading to a level topline. Correct angulation front and rear and tail set. Great bone and substance. Compact and square. A very masculine and powerful boy who was in hard condition. He was full of spirit and enthusiasm so gave his handler a hard time but when he settled I could see he moved with drive, reach and power. Lost the class on performance. Another puppy who im sure has a bright future ahead. 3.John’s Omfero Princess Rochie.

Junior (5/2)

1. Myers & Morgans Old Manilla’s Trouble At Optimus (IMP NOR) NAF. A very feminine 12 month old balanced fawn bitch. I would have preferred a slightly wider muzzle but other than that a very pleasing head with a dark eye, lovely pigmentation, correct ear placement, wide nostrils with a beautiful expression. Lovely straight front with good pasterns, tight feet. Compact with good topline, angulation & tail set with just enough bone and substance. Moved with free flowing movement, drive and power. Gave a super performance and handled beautifully. She is still very young so I’m sure there’s a lot more to come. 2. Bryan’s Okuma Maximilian At Tonicbull. 18 month male with a large square skull with correct proportions, correct ear placement, extremely dark eye and excessive pigmentation giving a very intimidating look which I’m sure would have deterred a few poachers back in the day. Lovely wide chest but did lack some depth but this may well be due to age and may develop in future. Correct front with good pasterns, tight feet, along with a powerful muscular neck and shoulders with a super level topline and correct tail set. Good shoulder placement/angulation front & rear. Great substance and bone. In hard condition, especially well muscled on the thigh. This boy was all male and certainly fit for function showing great strength. He was highly spirited so was a handful for his hander but once he settled I could see he was sound with free flowing movement, drive and reach. Would have preferred a cleaner colour. Unlucky to meet 1 who gave a super performance. 3. Beal’s Emsuart Rocketman.

Post Graduate (9/5)

1 Downs Optimus Mulberry. 19 month old fawn bitch. It was lovely to see a dog enter the ring and stand foresquare without any adjustment, she immediately demanded your attention. An eye-catching bitch who was not exaggerated in any way. A beautiful head correctly proportioned with an expression to match. Wide nostrils, dark eye, great pigmentation, level mouth and wide under jaw. Correct front and shoulder placement along with rear angulation which provided such balance on the move and the stand. Muscular neck leading to a level topline and correct tail set. Square and compact with bone and substance. In super hard condition and presented well. This girl could certainly move and she moved with great strength, drive and power, she could have gone all day long – certainly fit for function. Very pleased to award her BOB. 2. Rylance’s Ardhub Red Is The New Black At Redmist. 2.5yr old beautiful deep red male. Large & powerful. Large square head with correct proportions, dark eye and correct ear placement, open nostrils, would have preferred a broader under jaw and a slightly smaller eye. Strong powerful neck, correct front with a good width and depth of chest, good pasterns, tight feet, would have preferred slightly more angulation. Level topline. Short and compact with great bone and substance, in hard condition with a muscular second thigh. A very masculine male. High spirited but once settled he moved with great power reach and drive. 3. Hand’s Staxonoby Flawless of Lucetrubeus.

Open (7/5)

1. Latters Stoneglad She’s Kinda Hot JW. A red bitch of nearly 4 yrs old. A beautiful head piece that wasn’t exaggerated in any way with the most captivating expression – this head had everything the breed standard asks for. Muscular neck and shoulders leading to correct front & chest with tight feet, she could do with a stronger topline but had great angulation throughout. She had tight feet although I would prefer better pasterns. Square and compact with great bone and substance. Moved with power, reach and drive showing great strength – a real powerful bitch who looked like she could work all day long, certainly fit for function. Pleased to award her RBOB. 2. Johns Asborn Daisy Duke. A very pretty fawn bitch approaching 3 years old. Not as strong in the head as 1 but still a beautiful head with a dark eye, correct ear placement, open nostrils and a super level mouth. Strong powerful neck, correct front, good pasterns, tight feet, would have preferred a slightly wider chest. Correct angulation front and rear and presented in good condition. Moved well. Just enough bone and substance. Beautifully handled – it was clear to see she has a strong bond with her handler which was delightful to see.
