BRITTANY CRITIQUES

WINDSOR GUNDOG SOCIETY 5 OCTOBER 2022

I would like to thank Windsor Gundog Society for the opportunity to judge the Brittany Classes at their open show. I was very pleased with my entry on the day, particularly given this was a midweek open show and would like to thank those exhibitors that entered their dogs.

Class 5 - PUPPY (1,0)

1st – Steven’s That’s all Folks Do Coracao Leal Naf – Six month old tricolour bitch. Full of Brittany exuberance at her first show. A very pretty feminine head. Correct 3:2 proportions, parallel planes, with a moderate stop and well carried, high set ears. Good length of leg and presented a good square outline in profile. Topline gently sloping to croup which she held on the move. Still needs time to develop in the chest but she is still very young and has plenty of time on her side. Once settled she moved well with typical Brittany gait. A promising youngster whose progress I will watch with interest. BP

Class 6 – JUNIOR (0,0)

Class 7 – GRADUATE (3,1)

1st – Hayes and Wilson’s Sanbosier Nevis – OW roan dog. This dog presents a lovely square outline standing in profile. Correct 3:2 proportions to his head, although stop is a little strong. Gently sloping topline with a short strong loin giving that all important cob shape. Good muscle tone with plenty of substance. Good deep chest reaching to brisket and correct angulation front and rear. A little unsettled on the move, but when he did settle, showed typical movement.

2nd – Dixon’s Sanbosier Perseus – OW roan dog. Nice expressive head with parallel planes, well set ears. Good outline in profile with gently sloping topline and correct angulation front and rear. Neat feet. Moderately boned. Not quite the depth of chest and short cobby body of 1. Moved correctly.

Class 8 – OPEN (4,2)

A strong class with lots to like in both exhibits who could easily change places on another occasion

1st – Steven’s Sanbosier Renes Dream – OW roan bitch. I really liked the balance and proportions of this bitch. A moderate and expressive head with correct 3:2 proportions, moderate stop and high set ears that she used well. Moderately boned and well muscled with correct angulation front and rear. Deep chest with a well rounded ribcage. In profile she presented a square outline with good length of leg and a solid topline gently sloping to croup. She demonstrated the best movement on the day with the required brisk and clipped movement. BOB

2nd – Hayes and Wilson’s Tillybirloch Otto – OW roan dog. A lovely cobby dog with plenty of substance and no heaviness. A nicely proportioned head, oval dark eyes and high set ears. A nice deep chest, good angulation front and rear and a short back and loin all contributed to his square and cobby appearance He was a little unsettled on the move, although did demonstrate correct movement once settled. However, the sound movement of 1 gave her the edge on the day. RBOB
