Nuneaton & District CS Open Show

Judge: Mr Krystyan Greenland

A really super show with cracking numerical entries. Thank you to the society for inviting me. The team were all very welcoming and I very much enjoyed my day. Thanks go too to my super steward, Ann Drechsler, who did a great job all day and helped ensure the ring ran so smoothly.

Bearded Collie

A good entry here, but lots of different types.

Puppy (5,0)

1st: Betts’ Pipadene Xtraa Hint of Chili. Stood away for me here. 7 months and displaying many qualities. Well balanced head with nice square skull which has enough breadth. Medium stop and eyes are set well apart and ok for size, helping give a very typical soft expression. Neck of medium length. Well balanced angles with good layback of shoulder and return to upper arm. Chest developing. Ribs carried well back with no excessive length through the loins. Well bent stifles and low set hocks. Tail set and carried well. Coat coming along nicely with decent texture already. Excellent on the move with lovely reach and drive and overall silhouette. BP & RBOB

2nd: Edwards’ Kelham Like Dreams Do At Roxilyn Naf Taf. Another with a delightful expression. Head is developing along nice lines. Skull and muzzle are well balanced and she’s not too refined. Eyes of good shape and set. Slightly shorter in neck than 1st and, at present, not such well laid shoulders or upper arm as 1st.Chest is developing. Slightly longer in loin than 1st, but still looks balanced overall. Stifle slightly straighter than winner. Nice for bone and substance. Coat developing well. Tail set not quite as good as winner. Moves very soundly. Will develop on nicely.

3rd: Ayrton’s Aoibh Drummer Boy

Graduate (4,0)

1st: Brookes’ Brookles Rhymes and Reasons. 2 year old. Of quite a nice type with a typical expression. Skull is flat and square and well balanced with the muzzle. Neck is good for length and angulation is well balanced and moderate all through. Chest is deep enough, could maybe have a tad more width. Ok for bone. Topline was level and firm. Not too long in loin. Slightly down in patterns on the day. Tail set and carriage is good. Harsh outer coat. Moves will a very typical profile gait and sound out and back.

2nd: Curry’s Megamaree Shining Star at Davankirk. Feminine yet still with a good level of ‘ruggedness’ about her. Her head displays a good ratio of skull to muzzle and the skull is flattish. Perhaps slightly narrower than ideal. Neck is a tad short and shoulders slightly upright. Upper arm does return ok. Chest is deep enough and ok for width. Ribs carried well back to firm loins. Topline strong. Well turned stifles which don’t quite complement front. Tail set is ok. Not so balanced in profile gait as winner.

3rd: Canty’s Bargemon High Society

Open (6,1)

1st: Edward’s Roxilyn Take A Bow JW. I felt this to be a most typical bitch. Lovely soft expression through those well set eyes which are also good for size. Skull is square and well balanced with muzzle. Good pigmentation. Feminine, but still with strength. Neck of good length leading to well laid shoulders. Upper arm of correct length and angled back nicely. Well set elbows. Chest is deep enough and shows decent width. Topline firm. Well-proportioned with length from the ribcage rather than loins. Well turned stifles and low set, firm hocks. Tail set and carriage is good. Nice bone. Super mover displaying a breed typical action. Very sound out and back. Nice harsh outer coat. BOB

2nd: Curry’s Megamaree Lavender N’Lace For Davankirk. A pretty well put together bitch. Slightly narrower through the skull and muzzle for me than the winner. Eyes are well set and of correct size. Neck of medium length. Moderate angles all through. Slightly more length through the loins than 1st. Topline is firm and held well on the move. Moves soundly enough, but not quite the stride and flow of the winner on the day.

3rd: Ayrton’s Aoibh Skylark

Border Collies

Puppy (4,2)

1st: Kinton’s Kinaway Dreams With Fire (AI). 8 months. Caught my eye. Has a nice outline. Ok for size. Typical head with enough width to skull and well balanced with muzzle. Muzzle tapers to nose. Eyes are wide set and dark in colour. Ears set well apart. Very typical expression. Has nice length to neck and well laid shoulders. Upper arm returns well. Chest is deep enough for age and ok for width. Really good topline. Ribs well sprung. Loins are firm. Displays a typical underline. Moderate turn of stifles. Hocks could be lower set for me, but they are firm. Tail set and carriage are good. Really excellent gait in a style typical of the breed. Very well presented. BP & BOB

2nd: Kempton & Vos-Butler’s Clan-Abby Fly Me Over To Borderbrook NAF (Imp Aus). One just setting out on his career. Looking very raw and immature at just 6 months. Very lovely temperament. Head is developing. Eyes are ok for shape and set. Ears quite wide set. Neck ok for length. Body is coming along nicely and has good angulation and nice shape. Gait was quite hard to assess on the day.

Graduate (3,0)

1st: Lee & Ratcliffe’s Arrodare Rebel With A Cause. Easy winner here for her overall conformation. Head shows many breed attributes with good width to skull and tapering muzzle. Skull and muzzle are well proportioned. Neck is moderate in length. Well laid shoulders and angle to upper arm. Chest reaches to elbows and is of good width. Slightly sloping pasterns. Topline firm. Loins are very muscular and she presents the correct underline. Well-turned stifles and low set hocks. Nice bone. Excellent profile gait. Felt she could have been taken a pace faster to advantage, however the floor was very tricky. Ok out and back. Just preferred the overall finish on the day, body proportions and expression of the BOB winner, but close decision. RBOB

2nd: Kempton’s Borderbrook Winter Sunset. For me, a slightly harder expression than the winner, but head still shows nice proportions. Eyes are well set and dark. Ears well spaced. Muzzle tapers as required. Neck ok for length. Moderate angles all through. Slightly longer through loins than winner. Correct underline. Topline firm. Gave ground away on the out and back, where she did crab slightly. Typical in profile, but not with such a typical stride as the winner.

3rd: Farris’ Tobermory Heaven Sent For Flintrix

Open (5,1)

1st: Lee & Ratcliffe’s Arrodare Rebel With A Cause.

2nd: Kempton’s Borderbrook Winter Sunset

3rd: Domotori’s Hysteps Leap Of Faith

Rough Collie

Puppy (1,0)

1st: Shipp’s Most Majestic Shady Lady at Tremaro (Imp Hun) Naf Taf. 6 month old of a super type. Gorgeous head with well balanced skull and muzzle. Head is a well blunted wedge. Lovely parallel head planes. Stop still developing. Eyes are medium in size, almond shaped and set obliquely. Very expressive twinkle to her eyes! Ears are not too large and are well set. Lovely neck. Super lay to shoulders and return to upper arm. Chest still developing but more than adequate for age. Back was firm. Well-turned stifles. Lovely feet. Perfect tail set and carriage. Really couldn’t get into much stride on the floor here but showed soundness. Certainly of high quality and if she carries on developing as she is, I’m sure she will be winning many top honours in the future. BP

Graduate (2,0)

1st: Farthings’ Aldreen Illusion In Blue For Didek. I really liked this bitch for type and construction. Well balanced through the head with correct stop, blunt wedge and lovely parallel head planes. Almond shaped eyes which are obliquely set giving a most typical expression. Ears are well set. Neck is good for length. Good angles throughout and has very nice body proportions. Chest deep with good width. Back was straight and she does show a slight rise over the loins. Well bent stifles and low set hocks. Lovely rich tan markings. Needs some schooling in the ring as didn’t really settle. Did go well round the ring when she chose to. RBOB

2nd: Millgan & Marleys’ Alfsden He Lives In You. Quite nice type with decent head. Has a well-proportioned head with good parallel head planes and has a typical blunt wedge and enough depth overall. Almond shaped eyes which are set obliquely. Ears are ok for size and are well set. Moderate length to neck. For me, not quite the angles of the winner. Chest is deep. Topline is typical for the breed. Tail set and carriage ok. Side gait was sound. Persisted in crabbing going away.

Open (6,1)

1st: Shipp’s Gillyflower Della Buca Delle Fate (Imp Ita). Stand out winner here. Super typey all through. Stunning outline. Love her head which has such perfect balance. Correct overall length of head with stop set ideally. Super expressive almond shaped eyes which are set so as to give that lovely expression. Super ears for size and set. Correct length to neck. Excellent angles all through. Deep chest with good width. Ribs carried well back. Firm all through. Back is firm and has a slight rise over the loins. Beautiful for bone and has excellent feet. Low set firm hocks. Absolutely filled my eye. In wonderful coat and condition. Moves so soundly, but the floor was not ideal for her and she couldn’t really move out fully. Super bitch. A pleasure to judge. BOB

2nd: Allsopp’s Aqualita It’s a Miracle. Up to size I’d say. Skull to muzzle ratio is ok. Slight stop. Has a blunt wedge. Eyes nice for shape and set. Not really using his ears to advantage. Typical expression. Neck ok for length. Moderate angles all through. Perhaps slightly squarer in outline than I prefer, but very strong with deep chest and enough width all through without being overdone. Topline ok. Tail set ok. Moves very well in profile with a lovely sound gait. Well presented.

3rd: Benton’s Brooklynson El Dorado

Shetland Sheepdogs.

A cracking entry numerically. Thank you so much! Quite a challenge as there were so many different types.

Puppy (8,0)

1st: James’ Valmay In Vogue. Quite taken with this beautiful girl. Most typical head and expression. So feminine. Excellent ratio of skull to muzzle. Stop set correctly. Very nice parallel head planes. Eyes are almond in shape and set obliquely. Ears small and set well. Neck of good length leading into well laid shoulders. Nice return to upper arm. Chest developing well. Bone is ideal for size. Good length through ribcage. Firm loins. Tail set and carriage are good. Lovely flowing mover in profile. Needs to improve going away. BP

2nd: Hateley’s Valmay The Viceroy. A handsome young man. Litter mate to 1st. Good head with typical length and width all through. Blunt wedge. Lovely parallel head planes. Eyes are almond in shape and set obliquely. Lovely expression. Neck ok for length. Shoulders are well laid. Upper arm returns sufficiently and is ok for length. Would prefer slightly more length of body. Standing a little bum high today. Stifles are moderate. Moves very soundly but not quite the flow and reach of 1st on the day. Two very promising puppies here.

3rd: Winfield’s Oakcroft Cosmic Flower

Graduate (5,1)

1st: Sutherland’s Shelcrest Winter Solstice. I like the overall picture this dog presents, which took him to the top here. Good head with parallel head planes and correct skull to muzzle ratio. Nice blunt wedge. Almond shaped eyes. Small well set ears. Neck ok for length. Moderate angles all through. Upper arm a little upright. Chest is deep enough and carried well back. Could perhaps have a tad more width. Tail set and carriage is good. Very sound mover but could have had more reach in front. Very well presented.

2nd: Moore’s Sanscott Sweet Edition. This bitch has a pretty head with good blunt wedge and of good balance. Eyes are ok for shape and set and she has a typical expression. Angles are balanced all through. Perhaps a little square in body. Well presented here. Not quite the footfall of 1st.

3rd: Robson’s Shellamoyed Heaven Sent

Open (10,1)

1st: Hateley’s Mohnesee Enchanted. A gorgeous bitch in my opinion and stood away from all here for her overall type and conformation. Super outline that catches your eye. Her head is beautiful. Lovely parallel head planes and balance of skull and muzzle. Presents a blunt wedge. Super almond shaped, oblique set eyes. Small ears which are well set and help frame the head to give a lovely overall expression. Super neck. Excellent lay to shoulders. One of few to have a decent return of upper arm. Good bone and nice oval feet. Chest reaches to elbows, has good length and breadth. Lovely topline. Well-turned stifles and low set hocks. Really excellent coat of good texture. So well presented. In the breed she moved an absolute dream – light and flowing and super sound. Absolutely loved her. Such a shame there was so much clattering in the group as it put her off somewhat. BOB

2nd: Walker’s Tooralie’s Quest. Handsome Tri. Another who I feel presents many breed virtues. Nice for size. Masculine, but not overdone. Blunt wedge with really good parallel head planes. Eyes are almond in shape and set slightly obliquely. Small, well set ears. Nice length of neck. Well angulated all through. Good depth and width of chest. Firm and muscular all through. Strong topline. Enough croup and well set tail. Lovely sound, steady mover who really covered the ground. Just preferred the overall picture and freedom of action of the winner.

3rd: Bastiani & John’s Auberswell Ghost Rider

AVNSC Pastoral

Puppy (6,4)

1st: Critchlow, Francis Christie’s Pavoskas Forest. Finn. Lapphund. Very handsome young man. Very masculine head with eyes of lovely shape and set. Ears are set well and he has a very teddy bear like expression. Good neck. Well angulated fore and aft. Firm in body with good chest. Tail set on high and carried well on the move. Excellent coat and condition. Should have a good future. BP

2nd: Buckle & Dainty’s Chiceron Stowetree. Beauceron. Was lacking a bit in confidence when she first entered the ring, but by the end was really getting the hang of it. I feel she presents a very standard fitting picture with all the essentials of the breed. This, combined with her very nice type and lovely sound movement should take her far as she gains in confidence.

Graduate (4,2)

1st: Anderson & Nardone’s Limishka Kareitar. Finn. Lapphund. One I have judged before and looked even better here. Has matured on so well. Excellent head with enough strength but retaining femininity. Eyes are of a good shape and the colour harmonises with her coat colour. Excellent ears with slightly rounded tips and are set wide enough apart to help create that typical Lapphund expression. She has strength in bone and body. Well angulated shoulder and upper arm. Deep chest with good width for her age. Great bone. I like the daylight under her. Stifles are moderate. She has low set hocks which are nice and firm. High set tail which she carries so well. Presents a quite outstanding picture of balance, type and conformation. Superb mover in all directions and covered enough ground without excess. Super bitch. Shall watch her career with great interest. Best AVNSC

2nd: Lord’s Appassionata Diamindream. Samoyed. Of a nice type and very well presented. Typical head with wedge shape, good pigment and smiling expression. Could perhaps be a tad more feminine. Nice dark eyes which are of a good shape and set. Well constructed all through. Topline firm. Tail set high. On the day, lost out I the move as struggled with the floor.

Open (10,3)

1st: Milligan & Marley’s Allmark One For The Road With Alfsden. Australian Shepherd. Another I have met before, having awarded him the RCC at Richmond. I can’t add to my critique there. Still looked good here. Very typical representative of his breed who always presents himself well. Moderate all through and nothing overdone. Really super mover from all angles. Was put off today by one of the other dogs in the class.

2nd: Strong & Clinton’s Ohanaway Having A Blast At Mackjama. Swedish Vallhund. A sturdy and powerful looking Vallhund. Flat skull and wedge shaped overall. His muzzle is slightly shorter than the skull. Medium size eyes which are oval in shape. Well made overall with good bone. Strong topline. Very muscular. Harness markings are defined. Displays very good sound action as he goes around the ring. Well presented.

3rd: Benton’s Oakestelle Venus De Milo. Smooth Collie

Import Register Pastoral

Open (4,1)

1st: Yu & Halliday’s Pascale Enzotica (Imp DNK). Picardy Sheepdog. An upstanding, impressive dog with a beautiful outline. His head is in proportion to his size. Skull and muzzle appear equal in length. Good parallel head planes. Stop is not over done or too blocky. Typical beard and whiskers are present. Medium size eyes which are oval in shape and the colour blends with his coat colour. Ears are high set when alert. Neck is moderate in length and leads to very well laid shoulders. Good return to upper arm. Just right for proportions. Chest reaches to elbows and has the correct length of foreleg. Moderate turn to stifles. Tail is well set. Great coat texture for me. Super mover from all angles. A really super dog. Just lost a little interest in the group, but apart from that put up a faultless performance. Best Past. Import Register

2nd: Beeton & Abott’s Bellezzalana Arturo. Bergamasco. Medium sized dog of very good type. Good head with skull and muzzle equal in length. Skull is broad enough. Stop is defined. Oval eyes, dark in colour. Ears are set high. Medium length to neck. Very well constructed in body with good angulation. Coat was of correct texture and has typical loose mats. Really moves out well. Very close up the winner. Really good class.
