Puppy (2,1)

1. Holland’s Ferndel Starshine over Flatcharm. Well what a start to the day? Just 6 months and a whisker but what a glorious puppy. Such a feminine balanced head with a beautiful dark eye. Ears well set on, correct shape narrowing to the bottom. Strong clean neck set into well sloped shoulders. Beautiful bone and lovely straight legs and well set into elbows. Deep body with well sprung ribs. Well-developed hindquarters with excellent width of second thigh. Moved with elegance but showing super drive and forward reach. Straight coming towards and away. Shown in super coat and presentation. An extremely happy disposition for such a baby. BP

Junior

1. Yacoub’s Laithmoor’s Felka. 16m bitch with feminine head, correct ear setting. Strong neck into well laid shoulder. Well boned forequarters with excellent forechest. Correct in length of body with muscular loin. Correctly set tail. Well muscled. Moved okay.

1. Philipson’s Menstonia Meteor. Mature 4 year old dog. Masculine in the head but not overdone. Lovely dark eye and kind expression. Correct ear setting and shape with narrowing to the bottom. Sufficient bone and straight forelegs. Good depth of body with well sprung ribs. Well balanced dog on the stack with balanced angles fore and behind. Super muscle tone and well presented in excellent coat. Moved well around the ring. BOB

Cocker Spaniel

Firstly I would like to thank all the Cocker Spaniel exhibitors for entering under me. It was a pleasure to judge all of your dogs and I am so grateful for your support. I had a super entry and there weren’t enough 1st places in some classes.

Puppy

1. Wildman’s Oktumi Major Player. Wow! What a stunner?! 10m blue roan dog that oozed breed type. Masculine, correctly shaped head with beautiful soft melting expression and dark eye. Correctly set ears of lobular shape. Lovely straight front with super well-boned legs and tight feet. Deep chest with plenty of lung room. Well-muscled in the back and over the loin. Beautiful strong hindquarters. So balanced overall with unexaggerated angles front and rear. All of these attributes led to the most amazing cocker movement. So “merry” on the move with that wonderful “bum” action. Shown in the best condition and presentation was excellent. I absolutely loved him and was delighted to give him BP and even more delighted to hear he went on to BPIS!

2. Bayliss’s Shirepark Sire Francis Drake by Wilanorah. 11m old dog. Shame to meet 1 today. Again a lovely balanced masculine head with dark eye. Excellent bone and standing on tight feet. Deep chest and well sprung rib. Strong over the loin. Well muscled second thigh. Beautiful presentation. Moved out well.

Junior (3,1)

1. Mason’s Sandlauga Maverick. B&W 6m old raw dog in full puppy coat. Look under that coat and he has a super outline and well-made body. Lovely masculine head of correct proportions for his age. Still to break but the potential is certainly there. Strong neck into well laid shoulders. Lovely well boned straight legs and tight feet. Deep in the body with well sprung ribs. Strong well developed second thigh. He had a little puppy bounce about him but when he settled, he moved beautifully. So happy and true straight movement. He is a balanced, compact shape and with some time, I am sure he will emerge as a beautifully finished boy!

2. Tavernor’s Regaltav Moonbeam. B/R 18m old Bitch. At first glance I thought would be my winner. Very feminine head of correct shape and proportion. Good length of neck. Lovely deep chest. Super bone and stood on lovely tight feet. She just didn’t move out with the enthusiasm I was looking for.

Post Grad (3,1)

1. Tavernor’s Regaltav Moonbeam. As above. Moved out a little better in this class so perhaps something was effecting her in the previous one

2. Prydderch’s Rockllocers Happy Hints. 23m short, cobby bitch. Pretty feminine head. Would like a little more neck. Sufficient bone and stands on good feet. Deep chest and strong over loin. Good width of second thigh. Moved out happily with good tail action. Just wasn’t as balanced on the stack as 1.

Open (4,1)

1. Watson & Wildman’s Oktumi Wee Bobby Dazzler. I want to know what is in the water at the Oktumi kennel because another top drawer dog here. Mature b/r dog who drew my eye straight away. Masculine head with correct chiselling, lovely dark, gentle eye. Correctly set lobular ears. Strong well-muscled neck into correctly sloping shoulders. Well-boned, straight legs and standing on beautiful tight feet. Strong body with deep well sprung rib cage. Well rounded, strong hindquarters with well-developed second thigh. An absolute picture of balance when stacked but when he moved! He went round that ring like he owned the county never mind the ring! Another merry mover with a typical cocker rear that we don’t see that often any more. His tail was wagging and his bum was too! A credit to his owners because he was turned out to perfection. BOB and delighted to hear he went BIS! A double for kennel Oktumi. Well done!

2. Terry’s Shaggylands Desperate Dan. Another well developed mature b/r male. Again a super masculine head on this boy. A lot of the attributes of 1 apply to this dog. He has sufficient bone and stands on good feet. Lovely depth of body and strong but short in loin. Well-developed muscular second thigh. Moved out well and was unlucky to meet 1.

Field Spaniels

Post Grad (1,0)

1. Hazell’s Nadavin Expectation of Vraibleu. 2 year old bitch. Lovely feminine head with dark almond shaped eye. Correctly set ears and refined shaped head. Strong muscular neck. Well-developed chest with well sprung, correct length of ribs. Moved out well.

Open (5, 2)

1. McVitty’s Sh Ch Sonnetand Faith. Mature bitch of 6yo. Beautifully feminine in the head with lovely dark, almond shaped eye with gentle expression. Correctly set ears. Strong neck into correct length of shoulder. Sufficient bone and tight feet. Well off for forechest going into deep body and excellent spring of ribs of correct proportion to the length of the body. Moved out well with lovely straight movement both away and back. BOB

2. Hazell’s Ewtor Must Have Been Crazy for Vraibleu. Smaller build of bitch but of same age (6yo). Very feminine in the head with beautiful eye. Lighter all through than 1. Good straight legs and tight feet. Strong in the body but not the bone of 1. Again another who moved beautifully away and back with good true movement.

Sussex Spaniels

Puppy (3,0)

1. Bradbury & Preston’s Harasteorra Big Bear. 9m old dog who was very mature all through compared to the other 2 puppies. Masculine head with correct scissor bite. Correct shaped eye of good colour. Well-developed forechest leading into super body depth and spring of rib of correct length. Super bone and feet. Good length of leg to body ratio. Balanced angles fore and rear. Moved out well with the true Sussex gait and happy demeanour. BP

2. Barnes’s Harasteorra Beta Canis at Saxonbejayz 9m old bitch who turned out to be litter sister to 1. She is so feminine but extremely puppyish at the moment. Her brother is so much more mature in every way. That is not to say she won’t catch up because when she settles she makes a beautiful shape. She is balanced front and rear. Good depth of body and very feminine all through. When she settled on the move, she showed what she will be capable of when she finishes her education. A beautiful balanced movement. It was a pleasure to have the three puppies entered and I loved the enthusiasm of them all.

Junior (3,1)

1. Harasteorra Beta Canis at Saxonbejayz. As previous class.

2. Barnes’s Saxonbejayz John Kerr. 8m old dog who was having a great time with his handler. Enjoying his day out. When he settled he is a lovely young dog with a well-shaped head that needs to mature. Strong neck into well laid shoulders. Well off for bone. Beautiful deep body. Moved out well when he settles. Another who I am sure will fulfil his promise once he settles down in the ring.

Two lovely Sussex spaniels and it came down to really nit picking between them Such a shame there weren’t two first places.

1. Hastings’s Sh Ch/Ir Ch Bardings Bypolar Bear Ir Jun Ch, CJW19, JW. Just coming to full maturity and he is all boy without mistake. Masculine head with that Sussex frown. Well-shaped, hazel eye, correctly placed. Good ear set, well feathered. Strong neck into strong body of correct length. Deep in the body with well sprung rib cage. Strong body all through. Standing on well boned legs and round, well-padded feet. Balanced angles front and rear. Moved around the ring at a steady gait with the unique Sussex Spaniel roll. BOB

2. Ashcroft’s Varya Velikolepnaya Iz Valley Wins at Torscha (Imp BLR). A beautifully feminine bitch as 1 was masculine. Beautiful head of correct shape with a slight frown. Hazel eye of correct shape and perfectly set. Strong neck into well placed shoulders. Deep body, strong over back and loin. Correct body length. Slightly higher on the leg than 1. Strong well boned forelegs. Well-developed second thigh. Balanced angles front and rear. Moved out well with enthusiasm. It really did come down to the finest of detail and 1 just beat her on maturity. She is only 20m and is still maturing into what I am sure will be a stunning young bitch.
