Thank you to the committee for my invite to judge and the exhibitors for bringing me some lovely dogs, lunch was a treat and while the wind tried to make life difficult, we all coped. I hope everyone who won them liked the keyrings/bag fobs.

The grass was a little prickly under foot for the dogs and I am sure this may have affected some of their movement today – Handlers also need to try and go in a straight line as dogs can look bad behind when they are trying to move in a zig zag up the ring. Some dogs would benefit from handlers who can move at a speed suitable for the dog, as some were hampered by their handlers today.

Class 81 Special Yearling (2,0)

1st  Soufriere Tourbillion at Woolybassets (B) – Mrs A Weymouth – at 13 months this young girl still has a bit of maturing to do but has a lovely head and good nose, dark oval eye and low ear set with just enough length, good angulation front and rear. Moved OK. Preferred her head and expression today over her brothers but time will tell with the pair of them. RBOB

2nd Soufriere Paserelle Bateau (D) – Mrs S Marshall - litter brother to first, and again I am sure has a lot of maturing to do. Preferred his movement to that of his sister today and he has a lot to like in his structure and his shape, these two I am sure will swap places over the years.

Class 83 Open (2,0)

1st Silvamoon Saffron at Soufriere (B) –  Mrs S Marshall – 8 year old girl who has a few signs of her age, but her head and expression are lovely her eye oval and her ears low set, and of correct shape and length – correct angulation front and rear and moved really well on the rough ground as a hunting hound should do, her coat is a little wavy now but still of the correct texture and type and  she still holds her topline well both stacked and on the move. Preferred her underline and overall type as well as movement today. BOB

2nd Soufriere One Vision JW (B) – Mrs S Marshall – 4 year old girl with a lot to like but I think maybe her handler was not helping as the ground was making it difficult for some people to get around well. Correct head with good ear set. Good feet. Movement a little erratic over the ground, but she has a well angulated rear, and I am sure could drive better from behind. Longer cast than first place but holds her topline well.

Class 254 Limit (1,0)

Amscot True Lies (AI) (B) – Mrs J & Mr P, Alpe & Abram – 16 months old lovely bitch, who while she stood alone would have challenged good company despite her young age. There is still more to come and she will mature further I am sure, but her angulation and overall shape are already there and she covers the ground really well. Good feet and bone, beautiful dark eye and tan eyebrows give a lovely keen, intelligent expression which gives the whole picture an overall finish. BOB

Class 265 Special Yearling (1,0)

1st Paduan Golden Girl (B) – Mr A J White – 14 months old bitch. Another very nice young bitch and she pushed hard for RBOB. Her head and expression are lovely and her angulation is correct, lovely straight front legs with enough bone. She still needs to mature and muscle up and the rough ground was giving her a few issues and her movement was a little off but all in all a well proportioned bitch with great breed type and the typical racy appearance this breed is known for.

Class 266 Limit (5,0)

1st Alofrana for You So Blue Deaconra (B) – Mr R D & Mrs P R Morgan – This bitch stood at the front of a good class where there were some dogs who lost out due to their handlers. Movement was compromised partly due to the ground but also by some dogs needing to be moved faster & straighter to get into their stride and show off their attributes. She has a beautiful, refined head almond shaped dark eyes and low set fine ears. Square muzzle and clean moderately long, lean neck flowing into good shoulders. Good tight, well arched feet. Well muscled, good rear angulation and enough coat. Preferred her movement over second today as she covered the ground with ease, tracking up well. RBOB

2nd Riverbrue Soldier On (D) – Miss D K Brown – Liked a lot about this boy, loved his head and dark , almond shaped eye and low set fine ears laying close to cheek. Lean neck into well laid shoulders good bone and profuse coat.  Good tight well arched feet. More forchest than the winner but both had a good deep chest, and good strait front legs with good bone.

3rd Gwendariff I Wont Forgetu (D) – Mrs C E Turner

Class 267 Open (3,0)

1st Delsanto Miss Daisy JW (B) – Mrs C A Sheldon – This beautiful 6 year old girl is just everything the standard sais she should be. Her whole is racy, fine but not too fine. Well boned, but not coarse. Eyes dark almond shaped ears low set close to cheek fine to the touch. Muzzle square, stop defined, expression one of intelligence. Lean moderately long neck into well laid shoulders. Front legs strait into good, smallish, tight, well arched feet. Lovely gentle slope from wither into a good croup and correct tail set. She moved round the ring without issue and looked like she could go all day. BOB

2nd Swiftlark First Desire at Paduan – Mr A J White – This girl has a good dark eye, lean neck into a slightly heavy shoulder, she is generally lighter in bone down the legs, than the winner. I liked her head and eye and she is a lovely rich mahogany colour. Not moving her best today.

She covered the ground effortlessly without exaggeration and held the characteristic slightly dipped topline on the move. BOB

Limit (1,0)

1st Bannonbrig Romeo Bravo (D) – Mrs L Welton – 8 year old brown roan lad who was carrying too much weight which made his back look level and covered up his shape. His head is a good shape, lovely dark eye,  his ear set below his eye level. The crest on his neck is there, into well laid but heavy shoulders. Good bone. Not too happy on the move. RBOB

Class 285 Special Yearling (4,1)

1st Baileydale Flo Milli (B) – Mr A & Mrs J Metcalfe –  15 month old well matured girl of correct size and shape – her coat is already showing that waterproof double coat with the harder top coat, continuing down her otter tail. Good angulation all round. Deep chest, although there is still a little more developing to be done. Well arched toes on round feet and move really well, despite the ground, as a proper gundog should. I was pleased to learn after judging that this was her last JW point. BOB

2nd Rumhill Firebreeze (B) – Miss C Boulden –  just over 12 months old and litter sister to 3rd  preferred her eye and head to her brother, although she is a finer type than him. These pups are fairly immature, but have time to come on – angulation there, although muscle will need to improve. Her chest needs to fill out and deepen. Lost out to winner on maturity and movement.

3rd Rumhill Firecracker (D) – Miss C Boulden

1st Creamwood Silver Hawthorne (D) – Miss P A Newman – 2 year old well put together lad with a medium sized dark brown eye and black pigmentation. Good double waterproof coat with hard top coat. Good round tight feet with well arched toes. RBOB

Class 290 Limit (5,1)

1st Deveron Duchess of Danehaven (B) – Miss D Collins & Miss C Powley – feminine head, good ear set. Correct angulation front and rear, well set tail and coped with the ground well, held her topline on the move. Good profile on the stack. BOB

2nd Katimba Trebbiano at Dkai (D) – Miss C Chapman – nice boy, well angulated, heavier set than winner. Weight over shoulders not helping his front movement, makes him look stuffy in neck. Challenged for RBOB but lost out on movement.

3rd Danehaven Macdonalds (D) – Miss A Finchham

Class 291 Open (2,1)

1st Danehaven Kovik (D) – Miss D Collins & Miss C Powley – Good head and eye, good angulation, carrying more weight than I would like which spoilt his movement slightly but held his topline on the move, nice type and correct all through, nice size as some today seem to be getting too big or too small. RBOB.
