Stourbridge & District Canine Society

Thank you Stourbridge & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge Large Munsterlanders at your show.  This was my first judging appointment and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  Thank you very much for my kind and helpful stewards, I could not have managed without their assistance. I was very pleased to receive a good number of entries and I would like to thank my exhibitors for their patience and sportsmanship.

Post Graduate (3,2)

1st:  Powell & Murrell’s Tureagh Crystal Cider

2 year old bitch.  Nice balanced profile with her head in proportion with the size of her body and covered in a lovely dense roan coat with plenty of feathering. Alert and kind expression with dark brown eyes.  Would prefer slightly higher set ears. Strong, slightly arched neck, well laid back shoulders and good angulation with correct return of upper arm.  Straight front and forelegs, strong pasterns with tight, rounded feet. Plenty of forechest and a deep brisket with ribs reaching well back to a strong loin, short coupled, broad hips. Moderate bend of stifle. She is very well muscled all over.  Moved well with reach and drive just not quite the springy gait that I would have liked.  Presented and handled very well, I was pleased to award her Reserve Best of Breed.  Will watch her progress with interest as she matures.

2nd: James’ Darkensky Supremacy

A handsome young male at 2.5 years old with medium brown eyes giving an alert and happy expression. Nice, spongy black nose with wide nostrils.  Correct high set ears and sufficiently broad skull, good length of neck smoothly joining well laid back shoulders. Correct front and rear angulation.  Good forechest and depth of brisket.  Slightly sloping from withers to a level topline which he held on the move. Well muscled hind quarters with a good bend of stifle. Adequate feathering with a beautiful feathered tail set in line with the back.  Lacked confidence to begin with but soon settled and appeared happy and enjoying his time in the ring.  He was presented in excellent condition and sound on the move, it was lovely to see such a positive relationship between this dog and his handler.

3rd: Lloyd & Smith’s Crumpsbrook Galangal Von Rulander (AI)

Open (2,6)

1st: Horton’s Crumpsbrook Jay

A 2.5 rising 3 year old male presented in immaculate condition with a shiny, dense coat with just the right amount of feathering.  His profile is square and balanced and he looks stunning especially when he is free standing.  Perfect scissor bite and well formed, strong jaw. Sufficiently broad skull, medium brown eyes and high set ears.  Lovely affectionate and gentle expression. Nice slightly arched, muscular neck, joining well placed shoulders smoothly sloping to a very nice level topline.

Straight front with a good forechest and good depth of brisket.  Well sprung rib cage, short coupled with a well muscled loin. Well muscled rear, correct angulation, good bend of stifle, straight hocks with neat, arched feet.  Well set on tail. He was in excellent form today and moved with a long striding, springy gait. Very clearly deserved to be awarded Best of Breed today and I was delighted to watch him being shortlisted in the Gundog Group.  Congratulations!!

2nd: Powell & Murrell’s Crumpsbrook Woodrush

5.5 year old male presented in lovely condition.  Lovely masculine head with a friendly appearance full of character with dark brown eyes, a strong jaw and lovely broad, high set ears.  His profile is square and balanced and well muscled all through with a strong topline when stacked.  He has a lovely strong neck and well placed shoulders.  Good front and rear angulation with nice bend of stifle. A good forechest, ribs reaching back towards a well muscled loin and broad hips. Straight forelegs with strong pasterns and tight rounded feet. He moved well with a free striding gait but didn’t always settle into a balanced free stand. Well set on tail though he carried it high today on the move especially.  A lovely dog who could easily change places with 1 another day.
