Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge their club show and to my steward Bev Manners for keeping the ring running. Judging was later in the day running off the back of Manchester Championship show, but exhibits were still fresh. A pleasure to judge this lovely breed.

Veteran Dog: 1 entry

1st Bailey’s CAN GR CH Arcticice Qimmiq G Amorak Avec Akna (IMP CAN) SHCM

8 year old grey. Judged this boy before and he’s still a joy to go over. All male with excellent bone throughout. Strong head with clear defined wedge shape and correct tapering of muzzle. Dark brown eye of oval shape. Well covered small ear with desired rounded tip. Strong, short neck onto well placed shoulder. Lovely front construction with enough width to chest and deep brisket. Clean body, with good ribbing and slight tuck up. Rear well muscled, would like a touch more turn of stifle. Finished with a well furnished tail, set correctly.

Coat was on the change but well covered over shoulders of good texture. Enough undercoat. He moved cleanly in all directions keeping a level topline throughout. RBD RBIS.

2 pups at different stages of development

1st Bailey’s Akna Knights Templar*

8 month W&B male developing nicely. Good bone throughout. Head is going in the right direction with breadth of skull and good tapering. Still needs to strengthen a touch in stop and skull. Darkest of brown eye. Ears small and well covered. Short neck, well laid back shoulder. Front is still coming on and where I would expect at this age. Still needs to broaden and drop in chest. Straight front on to arched well covered feet. Body of good length with slight spring of rib. Just needs to mature and fill out. Strong rear with good angulation. Puppy coat with texture coming through and adequate undercoat. Once settled moved assertively with a brisk trot and neat footfall. Clean coming and going and impressive side gait.

2nd Atkin’s Qimugta S’Holmes

9 month. W/R. Larger male and going through the leggy stage at the moment so his proportions are slightly out. Head of nice proportions with good width of skull. Shape needs to mature. Would prefer a smaller ear but well covered. Short neck onto laid back of shoulder. Straight front. A bit narrow at this stage but chest dropping and will come as he ages. Bit long in body, rear angulation good but a bit loose on the hock currently which I would expect with his growth spurt. Coat coming on with stiff guard hair and required mane around shoulders. Enough undercoat. Excitable on the move but settled into a good brisk pace. Little untidy with rear and front movement going through his leggy stage but drove round the ring, nice sidegait.

1st Bailey’s Qimugta Judas by Akna

19 month B/W. Such a striking youngster. Being dark, one you really need to go over to fully appreciate. Has a lovely outline standing. Beautiful head with correct shape the standard calls for. Good width to skull and muzzle. Small ear, well covered inside and out with rounding to tips. Strong short neck. Shoulders well placed covered with the typical male mane required. Front straight and parallel when viewed from the front. Feet rounded and well covered. Good length of back with rounded rib and good tuck up. Enough rear angulation onto strong hock. Moderate set well covered tail. Coat was of a lovely texture with stiff guard hair and abundant dense undercoat.

Moves out with drive, extending well in front and driving from the rear to give a lovely balanced gait. Very clean going away and back and impressive side gait. This boy could happily go all day. Shows great strength and stamina. Couldn’t be denied the top honours. BD BIS.

1st Atkin’s and Bailey’s CAN CH Akna Asavakkit**

7 year W/R. Such a lovely girl who presents a lovely shape when viewed from all angles. Beautiful head shape. Her brown, oval eye harmonises well with her coat and with good pigmentation. Ears of correct shape with rounded tip. Covered well. Strong neck. Her front is excellent. Strong laid back shoulders, enough width and depth to chest. Level back and good angulation to rear with enough muscling. Strong straight hock. In good coat of correct texture required and dense undercoat. Wouldn’t like any more weight to her on rib and over shoulder. Very clean mover keeping parallel in front and rear. Clean footfall in side gait.

1st Atkin’s Qimugta Miss Marple

9 month B/W. What a little cracker this pup is. Going through a growth spurt so a little long on leg presently but overall has a lovely shape to her. Head coming on well of lovely proportions with good breath of skull and tapering shape desired. She will only get better as she matures. Dark brown eye with sweet eyebrow markings which give her such a lovely expression. Small ears which are covered well. Coat is on the change from puppy but of correct texture and enough undercoat. Short neck onto good lay of shoulder. Her front is still coming on but has nice breath and depth at this stage. Good body length with sprung rib and slight tuck up. Rear of good angulation to stifle onto strong hock. Rounded feet on strong pad. Very altogether on the move. Straight and clean going away and back and an impressive side gait with clean footfall. Nothing exaggerated with her at all. One to watch for the future. I’m sure she will have a very successful show and working career. RBB BPIS.

2nd Cronin’s Norstrela Lost Trantula

6 month W&R. Sweet girl. Just needs time to gain confidence in the ring to show herself off to her best ability. Has a nice outline shape, just looks a little short in back at the moment. Good for bone throughout. Dark eye, with good pigmentation to head. Promising head shape at this stage. Just needs to break to give the desired broadness and tapering. Strong neck, a touch upright in shoulder at the moment as she grows. Front is developing, just slightly narrow at this stage which I would expect. Spring of rib. Rear has correct angulations. Just a touch week on her hock at the moment which will tighten as she matures. Good coat with the required dense undercoat. Once she settled had nice paces and looked lovely in side gait. Going away and back slightly untidy and needs to tighten up all round.

Junior Bitch 2 entries

Two bitches which just need more time as both were slightly unsettled in the ring today being gone over. Both handlers did well to get the best out of them on the day.

1st Ransom’s Akna Nukap**

16 months R&W. Has enough bone throughout. Nice head shape for age. Had the breadth to skull, just needs time to develop it’s wedge shape. Dark brown, oval eye and good pigmentation around lips and eye. Slightly long in neck but has strength. Bit upright in shoulder and a touch short in upper arm. Front is ok but a touch narrow and chest has not finished filling out and down. Good length of body. Rear has good shape and angulation and correctly set tail which was well covered. Again just needs to strengthen up, especially in hock. Movement was ok in side gait but loose coming and going as she’s a touch narrow.

2nd Dilrew’s Akna Innuitian**

Litter sister to my winner. G&W. Sweet girl with a pleasing outline. Would prefer a little more bone to her. Head still needs to mature and is a touch narrow at the moment. Good eye colour and shape and well covered small ear. Lovely expression. Again a little narrow in front and needs time to broaden and her chest to finish dropping. Would like a bit more upper arm to her. Nice length of body. Touch flat sided in rib as she needs to fill out as she matures. Rear angulations ok. Just needs to strengthen on her hock. Movement was a little unsettled and untidy coming and going but a nice sidegait with good footfall. Very sensitively handled by exhibitor who got the best out of her. She just needs to gain confidence in the ring.

Limit Bitch

1st Graham’s Akna Voorhees**

22 months G&W. Beautifully presented. Nice head with good dimensions. Just needs to mature and fill out in skull. Ears of nice shape and enough covering. Dark brown, oval eye. Strong neck. Well laid back shouder. Strong front with enough upper arm. Parallel when viewed from the front. Round well covered feet. Good length of back with level topline, correct spring of rib. Rear angulations are good with nice turn of stifle. Enough muscling to thigh and strong straight hock. Presented in good coat. Top coat of nice texture and a good fill of undercoat. Very clean mover with nothing over exaggerated. At one with her handler.

2nd Atkin’s Qimugta Harpist

3 year old B/W. Very feminine bitch. Good for bone throughout. Darkest of eye. Slightly larger ear, but well covered. Head of good proportions and gives a lovely expression. Slightly longer in neck on to well laid shoulder. Her front construction is good with enough upper arm, straight leg onto arched rounded feet with good furnishings. Enough length of back with excellent spring of rib and correct tuck up. Well set tail amply covered. Her rear has good build with enough turn of stifle and straight hock. Nice viewing from front and rear. Coat had the desired thickness and texture.

On the move she had a nice pace but was crossing over a little at the front on the away and back. This improved around the ring.

Open Bitch

1st Bailey’s Akna Dale**

5 year G&W. Judged this girl as a youngster and liked her then. She has only improved with age. Presents a lovely shape standing. Nothing is exaggerated with her. Balanced throughout. Pleasing head shape with breadth of skull and correct tapering. Clean bite. Dark brown eye of correct shape. So feminine without showing any weakness. Well covered ear. Enough length of neck. Good lay back of shoulder. Nice length of upper arm onto arched feet with good padding. Strong in body with enough spring of rib and tuck up. Nice rear angulation with good conditioning and strong hock. Carried a nice coat with the texture required. Enough undercoat. Well furnished tail which she carried well. For me she was the cleanest mover on the day. Reaching out well in front and drive from the rear. I could watch her move all day and she probably could. Effortless. BB BOS

2nd Atkin’s HR CAN Akna Peechee for Qimugta*

6 year C/R. Another lovely bitch. Clean head of good proportions. Typical wedge shape. Good eye colour and shape harmonizing well with her coat. Good pigmentation to eye and mouth. Clean scissor bite. Covered ear of good shape and rounded tip. Strong neck. Her front construction is lovely having the desired length of upper arm with good width between her legs and depth of chest. Strong pastern onto well furnished feet. Strong back with nice topline. Enough spring of rib, just would prefer a bit less covering. Strong well muscled rear with enough turn of stifle and strong, vertical hock. Generally nice on the move with clean side gait although a little close in rear moving away and back. This improved as she went round the ring and settled.
