Judge – Mrs Jane Eyeington (Meadowdale)

I would like to thank the committee of this well run show for their kind invitation to judge. A really lovely venue, with huge rings, pristinely cut and maintained. It was unfortunate to be the day before Driffield Championship Show, and for the Golden Retrievers, who had a club Championship Show the same day in partnership with Driffield. A huge thank you to the exhibitors who were able to make it, and giving me the pleasure of your lovely dogs.

Sussex Spaniels

Puppy (2,0)

1. R Barnes - Saxonbejayz John Kerr

It is always a bit of a challenge showing two kennel mates in the same class, and these 2 were having fun!

Lovely character to this 7 month old dog, full of beans and mischief, which is lovely to see. His head is masculine, and has the gentle curve to the backskull, typical eyebrows and good stop. He is well developed through the body for his age, and held his topline both stood and on the move. Ribcage carried well back and a well set on tail which was in constant use! Nicely boned limbs and well rounded feet. A little erratic on the move, but did show glimpses of true movement. - BP

2. R Barnes - Harasteorra Beta Canis At Saxonbejayz

7 month old bitch, of a different stamp to winner. She is nicely proportioned in outline when stood. Feminine head, with a good stop and typical frowning expression. Slight arch to her neck with enough depth and spring to the ribcage. Today tending to lose her topline on the move. Nicely boned limbs. Happy and outgoing, like her kennel mate needing to settle on the move.

Graduate (2,1)

1. J Goodwin - Meggamooch Xquisite Serendel

Very smart 14 month old bitch, who has a lovely shape on the stack. Feminine all through and having the right amount of substance. Well balanced head, with good width to the backskull, well defined stop and strength to the foreface. Strong slightly arched neck, flowing seamlessly into a well held firm topline. Nicely angulated fore and aft with a good width of thigh. Moving with good width behind and true, not quite as tidy in front today. Well presented

1. S Alderson - Sh Ch Meggamooch Ulysses

Most handsome stallion of a dog, at 4 years old he is looking most impressive in his stature. Liking his size, substance and masculinity. Handsome head, having good width to the backskull, well defined stop and typical frowning expression. Neck of good length, strong and slightly arched. Deep in brisket, with a super spring of rib, which are carried well back. Strongly boned limbs. Having complimentary angles both ends. Moving out with positive footfalls and a slight roll. Beautifully presented with the golden tips to the coat and well handled. - BOB

2. S Mowbray - Gainsmill Lilly Luna Potter At Crumbledor

Fell for this 3 year old bitch, she has a typical outline and sound in construction. Very feminine but having the desired strength. Lovely balanced head shape showing a good stop, tight eye and has the frowning but soft and gentle expression. Good length of neck flowing into a well held topline. Nice spring and depth to the ribcage. Her back is firm and level at all times. Moving out well, not quite as precise as winner behind. Immaculately turned out, lovely flat coat - RBOB

Golden Retrievers

Minor Puppy (5,3)

1. P Sloan - Palmonas Glitterball

Delightful 8 month old pale bitch. Thought her to be beautifully balanced when stood, her outline showing unexaggerated symmetry with good proportions and leg length. Really pretty head, with a nice amount of width to the backsull, and length to the foreface. Dark kind eyes, alert to her handler. She has a good flow to her topline, which was firmly held both stood and on the move. Good depth and spring to the ribcage for her age. Liked her hindquarters showing a width to the thigh and well bent stifle. Showing lovely reach and drive in her profile movement, just needing to tighten up behind a little more. Shown in good coat and condition - BP

2. J Ewart - Parlickview Blaze Of Glory Over Beaupippin

What a little poppet this bitch was, just 6 month old and loving it. She is a quality mid gold puppy with much to admire, of a different stamp to winner, being a little more compact in outline. Pleasing head, which show good balance. Clean neck of good length, holding a firm topline. She has lovely depth and spring of ribs, short loin. Moving out well for one so young

2. K Ellis - Tenfield Sparkling Sunrise

A quality 9 month old bitch. With lovely body proportions and very mature for her young age. Most feminine of heads, lovely dark eye and pigmentation. Good length of neck, lovely depth to the brisket and well sprung ribcage. Super boned and tight feet. Today she was just losing her topline fractionally. Ample width to her hindquarters, which she put to good use to drive around the ring.

Most appealing 13 month old bitch, thought her balanced and without exaggeration. Loved her happy and outgoing demeanour. Her head is feminine and well proportioned, with a good length to the foreface. Kind and intelligent dark eyes. She has a good length of neck and a firm well held topline both stood and on the move.
