MIDLAND ENGLISH SETTER SOCIETY – 27TH NOVEMBER 2022

Many thanks to the Society for inviting me to the judge the Open Show and for the sporting way which my decisions were accepted. My thanks to my stewards Peter and Linda who kept my ring running smoothly all day.

Minor Puppy Dog 1 (0a)

1st Williamson’s Hawklawn Sultan of Swing - 8 month old dog who needs time to fill his frame, love-ly head and expression with a bright eye and wide nostrils, rather long neck, straight front with rounded bone leading to tight feet, short back with level top line, well bent stifle, correct set of tail, moved soundly once settled with a slashing tail action – BPD & RBPIS

Veteran Dog 3 (2a)

1st King’s Dobbies Delight At Grantastar - 8 year old blue dog with masculine head with a well de-fined stop, rather long muscular neck, deep chested, well sprung ribs, well bent stifle, moved sound-ly.

Junior Dog 2 (1a)

1st King’s Sirius Blue Heaven At Grantastar - 14 month old tri dog with a masculine head but would prefer a tighter eye, correct earset and length, long neck, deep chested, good spring of rib, short back, correct level top line, well muscled rear end, moved freely with drive from behind. RBD

Yearling Dog 1 (0a)

1st Ward’s Mariglen Wilbur - 20 months old tri, happy lad, masculine dog with good head propor-tions, straight front with rounded bone leading to tight feet, short back, well muscled rear end, moved gracefully with correct head carriage and slashing tail.

Maiden Dog 1 (0a)

1st Possee’s Stardente Theodore – Blue dog who was enjoying his and his handler’s first show I was told afterwards. He gave his handler a hard time but improved in the other classes as became more settled. This dog had a happy disposition, black nose, strong jaws, muscular neck, well mus-cled end, he moved soundly with his head held high. The round of applause he got at the end was lovely and so encouraging for a new person to our hobby and hopefully they will be back to show again.

1st Possee’s Stardente Theodore – As Before

Graduate Dog 3 (0a)

1st Wilkinson’s Phenset Firestorm – Dog who presented a pleasing outline when stood, masculine head and expression with a well defined stop, skull showing plenty of brain room, long muscular neck into well laidback shoulders, deep chested, short back, well sprung ribs, strong well muscled rear end, this dog was presented in excellent coat, on the move he carried his tail too high but drove out from behind.

2nd Catton & Cook’s Valsett Starlite Sky Storm With Ferngate – Tri dog who presented a pleasing outline, head carried high, well defined stop would prefer less length to the muzzle, long clean neck into well laidback shoulders, correct forequarters, ribs well sprung, strong muscular rear end, moved with reach and drive.

3rd Ciaputa’s – Wansleydale Skyfall – Balanced blue dog who presented a pleasing outline, mascu-line head with a lovely expression and a dark bright eye, clean neck into well laidback shoulders, deep chested, elbows close to body, well sprung ribs, unfortunately this dog would not move without pacing even though given plenty of opportunity.

Post Graduate Dog 1 (0a)

1st Szal’s Sharnyx River Flow - Tri dog who was presented in good coat, masculine head and ex-pression with correct head proportions, deep chested, well sprung ribs, well bent stifle presented in good coat moved soundly.

Limit Dog 6 (4a)

1st Ridsill’s Sharnyx Glacier Ice – Dog who presented a pleasing outline with his head carried high and a well defined stop, bright eye, black nose, rather long neck into well laidback shoulders, short back, ribs well sprung, well bent stifle, correct tail set and feathering, moved soundly with an ever slashing tail.

2nd Hopper’s Bramstorm Forest Sprite – O/B dog, masculine head, clean long neck into good lay back of shoulder, short back, well bent stifle, would prefer tighter feet, moved soundly with a slash-ing tail.

Open Dog 8 (3a)

1st Poynter & Lewis’ Sh Ch Quensha Cowboys And Angels - Balanced o/b dog who appealed for breed type, masculine head with well defined stop, muzzle moderately deep and square, long clean muscular neck into well laidback shoulders with corresponding return of upper arm, chest deep, straight front with rounded bone leading to well arched toes, elbows close to body, excellent coat, muscular rear end, movement free and with drive BD, RBIS & BOSIS

2nd Full’s Ravensett Midas Touch At Teighestuary – Dog who appealed for breed type, masculine head with correct proportions and lovely expression, long muscular neck, correct forelegs with rounded bone leading to tight feet, deep chested, well sprung ribs, short back, stifle well bent, moved soundly with the slashing tail but lacked drive from behind.

3rd Arkley’s Hartsett Flash Dance - Larger framed dog with head carried high, long clean neck, deep chested, elbows close to body, well sprung ribs, level back, well bent stifle, tight feet, moved freely.

Special Beginners Dog 6 (2a)

1st Wilkinson’s Phenset Firestorm – As Before

2nd Ciaputa’s – Wansleydale Skyfall – As Before – In this class the dog was with a different handler and was at one with her and moved freely and with drive.

3rd Ward’s Mariglen Wilbur – As Before

1st Williamson’s Hawklawn Jazzella - 8 month old tri bitch who I see is the little sister to BPD. To-gether for her age, feminine head with a lovely expression and dark eye, well defined stop, long clean neck into well laidback shoulders, straight front leading to well arched toes, short back, level top line, moderate bend of stifle, moved soundly with drive once settled. BPB & BPIS

1st Williamson’s Hawklawn Jazzella – As Before

2nd Ridsill’s Sharnyx Here’s Bonnie - Pleasing bitch with a feminine head and dark eye, long neck with slight arch at crest, short back with level top line, well bent stifles, moved soundly with her head held high and an ever slashing tail.

Veteran Bitch 3 (2a)

1st Loake’s Sh Ch Rachdale Painted Lace At Goldbirch – 8 ½ year old blue bitch stood out for breed type and balance, feminine head and expression with dark bright eye, long muscular clean neck in-to well laid back shoulders, well sprung ribs, short back, level top line well bent stifle, tight feet, cor-rect tailset, moved gracefully around the ring and drove out from behind. BVIS.

Junior Bitch 2 (1a)

1st Welburn’s Oshowa Dream Come True – 17 months old blue bitch, feminine head and expres-sion, clean neck into good lay of shoulders, well sprung ribs, level top line, well bent stifle, she was just not happy being gone over today, moved soundly.

Yearling Bitch 5 (3a)

1st Loakes & Romeo-Dieste’s Goldbirch Wings Of Glory For Hopevalley – Tri bitch who appealed for breed type and balance, feminine head with correct proportions and dark eye, low set ears, clean long neck into well laid back shoulders, deep chested, short back, well sprung ribs, level top line, muscular rear end, in good coat and moved effortlessly with head carried high, ever slashing tail and with drive. BB & BIS

2nd Besley’s Wansleydale Mayflower – This bitch gave her handler a hard time, feminine head with a lovely expression, clean neck into well laidback shoulders, level top line, short back, correct rounded bone, moved soundly with her head carried high and ever slashing tail.

Graduate Bitch 3, (1a)

1st Welburn’s Oshowa Dream Come True – As Before but I went over her again and she was more settled this time. I found out afterwards she had been looking for her Dad who was banished to out-side for this class.

2nd McLoughlin’s Arabin Silver Panda - Another who gave her handler a hard time, balanced tri bitch with feminine head and dark eye, well defined stop, long clean neck, good depth of chest, well bent stifle, would prefer tighter feet, in good coat, moved soundly.

Post Graduate Bitch 4 (2a)

1st Darley’s Severnsett Dark Angel – Bitch that presented a balanced clean outline, feminine head with lovely expression and correct head proportions, long clean neck into well laidback shoulders with corresponding return of upper arm, deep chested, elbows close to body, well sprung ribs well bent stifle, in good coat, moved well driving from the rear. RBB

2nd Tompsett’s Leilasett Northern Lights Over Radbrooks – O/B bitch with feminine expression, mus-cular neck, straight front with rounded bone, short back, level top line, well bent stifle, moved sound-ly.

Limit Bitch 8 (3a)

1st Beasley’s Wansleydale Amaretto - Balanced tri bitch who presented a pleasing outline and ap-pealed for breed type, feminine head with a soft expression and correct head proportions, clean muscular neck, deep chested, well sprung ribs, short back, level top line, well muscled rear end, in good coat, moved freely around the ring with drive from behind to win her this class.

2nd Oliver’s Bramstorm Speckled Wood – This bitch gave her handler a hard time, a happy girl for sure. Feminine head with a lovely expression, clean neck, straight front, deep chested, elbows close to body, well bent stifle, would prefer tighter feet, moved soundly once settled.

3rd Ridsdill’s Sharnyx Esmeralda – Balanced o/b bitch with a feminine head and soft expression, long clean neck into good lay back of shoulders, straight front, well sprung ribs, short back, well bent stifle, but would prefer tighter feet, moved soundly with a slashing tail but lacked drive.

Open Bitch 1 (0a)

1st Welburn’s Bramstorm Faerie Silk At Oshowa - Medium sized o/b bitch with a clean outline, femi-nine head with a well defined stop, muscular clean neck, ribs well sprung, short back, well bent sti-fle, moved soundly.

Special Beginners Bitch 4 (1a)

1st Beasley’s Wansleydale Amaretto - As Before

2nd Welburn’s Culverwell Sea Breeze At Oshowa - Medium sized bitch who had a different handler in this class. Feminine head, long clean neck, deep chested, well sprung ribs, well bent stifle, in good coat, moved soundly and was at one with her young handler. The applause this young lady got from fellow exhibitors is encouraging for the future.

3rd Welburn’s Bramstorm Faerie Silk At Oshowa – As Before
