Welsh Corgi Club Of Cambria
First of all, may I express my sincere thanks to the Club for this opportunity to judge these lovely dogs, and to my excellent stewards for their hard work. This was the Club’s 70th Anniversary Show, so there were extra awards with beautiful rosettes for the winners.
To save repetition these are some general observations: all the dogs shown here were well presented, and had sufficient ground clearance. Temperaments were excellent and charmingly sweet. Colour and markings were all within standard, bar one dilute, which while undesirable, is not forbidden.
Welsh Corgi, Cardigan.
PD 1st Fricker’s Kerman Pitch The Ball. Just six months old. A very nice puppy indeed. His muzzle is somewhat shorter than his skull, firm jawline but not blocky. Oval dark eyes, good ear shape and set with flat skull between. Strong medium length neck blending smoothly into shoulders. Forelegs wrap around the chest, strong slightly sloping pasterns, nice tight round feet. Good topline for his age to well set croup and tail. Well angulated and good long tail. I expect him to develop a bit more in forechest as he matures. He has all the makings of a good mover but was a little overwhelmed today and reluctant to gait. BPD
PGD 1st James’ Keerside Glenkiln at Bwthyn. Such a happy young man, he could hardly stay still and all my photos show him laughing. Pleasing head attributes with dark oval eyes, correct shape of ears. Good forechest, firm topline. Angles OK, good bone. Strong pasterns and decent feet. He moved well from all views with a jaunty tail, but not over his back.
LD 1st Langford’s Caprian Challenger JW. I have seen him before as a youngster. He has matured nicely. Correct proportions muzzle to skull. Both of which are well shaped. Dark oval eyes, and correct shape and carriage of ears. Medium length strong neck blending into shoulders. Good angulation all round. Forelegs wrap around the chest. Strong pasterns. Feet turn out somewhat. Plenty of forechest, level topline. Croup slopes correctly, well set tail. He is well ribbed up with a short loin. He gaits well from all views. RBD and RBOB
2nd Cooper’s Haveback Beech Haven. Another very nice young dog. A typey head, eyes could be a tad darker. Ears are good, as is his neck and shoulder blade. He could have a little more return on his upper arm which would give him more forechest. He has a good firm topline, and correct tail set and carriage. He moved well, but not quite as well as first.
OD 1st Williams and James’ Ch. Bwthyn Headliner JW,ShCM,ShCEx. A very well put together dog with plenty of forechest, level topline, well set fox brush tail of good length. Dark oval eyes, large rounded tipped ears. Forelegs wrap nicely around his chest. Feet turn out slightly. Elbows held firmly to chest. Moved well and soundly from all views. BD, BVIB and BOB
2nd Apperley’s Wildcard Ace at Nanaimo. This chap looked a little heavy all through. Masculine head. His lips could be a little tighter. Plenty of forechest and level topline. Side gait was sound, going away a tad hocky.
VD 1st Froggatt’s Gerefa Ghost Rider. Ten and a half years old. Looks much younger and in good condition. Sweet head and expression, possibly a bit narrow. Oval eyes, though the blue gives a misleading impression of roundness. Gait was ok from all views. Ribcage could extend further back and more return of upper arm would give more forechest. However topline was level and held on the move. BVD
PB two very nice pups, one almost twice the age of the other, therefore at very different stages of development. Both a little high at the rear at the moment. Both moved ok from all views, 2nd understandably less co-ordinated. 1st Langford’s Caprian Adrianna. Correct head proportions, good clean muzzle, Lovely dark oval eyes. Well shaped and placed ears. Well angled and with pleasing forechest for age. BPB and BPIB
2nd Hunt’s Kerman Caught Ya Lookin at Huntsville. Another pleasing feminine head. Still to develop in neck and body. Matching angles. I preferred this one’s rounder feet.
JB 1st Evan’s Lidoffad Llew Gwyllt. Good head proportions with clean lips, strong, clean neck into well angled shoulders. Plenty of forechest. Well ribbed up and nice level topline. Croup slopes to well set tail, which is nicely furred all round. Strong pasterns and feet. Forelegs wrap chest and are held in well. Gaited well from all views. BJIB
2nd Caprian Adrianna
NB 1st Apperley’s Nracigroc Charlotte Jayne. Generally nicely made, although forearm could angle back more, which would give her more forechest. Pleasing feminine head , oval eyes and well shaped ears set well back on flat back skull. Forelegs wrap chest. Feet could be larger but turn out slightly. Moved well from all views. BNIB
GB 1st Hunt’s Kalwig Believe In Magic for Huntsville. Lovely head and expression. Oval eyes that are darker in tone than her coat, well shaped and set ears, flat skull between. Excellent topline, finished in well furred tail. Well angled, good bone, pasterns and feet. Moved well from all views. RBB and BGIB
2nd Morris’ Kilvroch Celidora at Cwnmeurig. She has a little too much stop, which makes her head look a trifle blocky. Very nice dark oval eyes, and well-shaped ears with flat skull between. She has plenty of forechest. She moved pretty well from all views, but not cooperating with her handler as well as she might. Her glory is her lovely long brush tail.
3rd Nracigroc Charlotte Jayne
PGB 1st James’ Bwthyn Hopes and Dreams. Very focussed on her handler. A pleasing head and front assembly from the side with plenty of forechest. Legs vertical from the side, with well arched feet. A slight rise over the topline to the rear. Good long tail. From the front her forelegs come a little close together under her chest causing her to toe out more than I prefer. BPGIB
LB 1st Langford’s Caprian The Vixen JW. This bitch is the best ribbed up of the entry. Feminine head and expression with dark oval eyes, well placed and used ears. Good length of neck blending into well angled shoulders, lots of forechest. Good bone, strong pasterns. Feet could be rounder. Gaited well from all views. BLIB, BB and BOS
OB 1st Froggatt’s Wildcard Queen of Clubs for Gerefa. A pleasing head and neck. From the front her forelegs are the correct width apart and wrap well around her chest, but she toes out too much. She has a good topline and well-set tail of good length.
VB 1st Sandors’ Gregory’s Girl. 9 years old. Dark oval eyes, large rounded ears with flat skull between. Forelegs hug chest wall down to neat round feet. Good level topline sloping down to correct set tail of good length. Plenty of forechest. She moved very well from all views. BVB
2nd Froggatt’s Gerefa Bella Star. Ten and a half years. A real sweetheart with a pleasant head and melting expression. Her forelegs wrap her chest well. Her feet are not as arched as firsts, and has developed a slight dip in topline. She has plenty of forechest. She moves well for her years.
