Judge – Helen Geeson (Abydachs)

Thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge today, some really super exhibits to judge. The ring was a little small, especially for the bigger hounds and when the group was in which made things difficult, shame we weren’t outside on the grass where it was actually warmer than it was inside!

Rhodesian Ridgebacks

Puppy – 1 entry

1. Griffin’s Veldtkammer Irrestibile – 9 month bitch of a good type, head developing well for age, good length of neck, very good shoulder angulation, ribbed well back with strong loin. Excellent rear. Moved soundly both ways with good reach and drive in profile. Really smart puppy with surely a good future. RBOB, BPIB and Hound Puppy Group 1

Junior – 1 entry, 1 absent

Post Graduate – 2 entries, 1 absent

1. Hanson’s Kuwinda Bullseye – 16 month strong male with a very strong head, good length of neck leading into decent shoulders. Good ribbing, rising a bit over his loin. Balanced hind quarters. Moved soundly.

Open – 2 entries, 1 absent

1. Cox’s CH Calincox Pure Gold JW – Beautiful 3yr old bitch in excellent condition. Super head and neck leading into well angulated shoulders and good length of upper arm. Well ribbed back and strong loin. Excellent rear. Moved really well when asked to go a little slower, I am sure she could really open up in a big outside ring and looked like she could run all day. Loved her. BOB and Hound Group 2

Beagle

Puppy – 4 entries, 2 absent

1. Leader’s Molesend Dice – Tan and white dog with a lovely head and expression. Good length of neck, clean shoulders. Lovely bone and feet. Correct angulation both ends. Moved soundly with more width behind than 2. Smart puppy who should have a bright future. BOB & BPIB

2. Coates’ Gladstyle Too Close to Call – 6 month tan and white bitch. Balanced angulation both front and rear. Good feet. Moved soundly, just slightly narrow going away but I am sure this will improve as she matures.

Junior – 1 entry

1. Mathison’s Princess Bella of Redcharm – 12 month old tri bitch, good head and expression but her eye is slightly light in colour. Good length of neck leading into good shoulders. Adequate rear angulation. Moved ok. Would prefer her to be slightly smaller.

Post Graduate – 5 entries, 3 absent

1. Griffin’s Clarismore Twist and Shout – T&W bitch of a good type. Head is ok, good length of neck, well ribbed back. Excellent rear angulation. Moved well showing correct reach and drive. RBOB

2. Banks’ Forgebanks Roksana – Tri 3yr old bitch with a good head, slightly short in neck for me. Good shoulders, well ribbed back and balanced rear. Moved soundly but didn’t have the reach and drive of 1.

Open – 4 entries, 1 absent

1. Bridgeman & Logue’s Kellitcreed Dirty Diana at Kingswin – Nice tri bitch who was more interested in her bait than anything else which did her no favours. Attractive head, balanced front and rear angulation. Excellent body condition. Moved well

2. Coates’ Gladstyle All Bets are Off – Pretty bitch with a lovely expression. Would prefer her to be carrying a bit more condition in body. Good shoulder and rear angulation. Moved ok but slightly narrow.

3. Banks’ Forgebanks Raindrop

AVNSC Hound

Post Graduate – 2 entries, 1 absent

1. Fox’s Newdigate Marion Brando (A.I) very big male Irish Wolfhound who really needed a much bigger ring to get into his stride. Strong head with good length of neck. Deep ribcage with ribbing carried well back. Balanced angulation. Moved well considering the ring size.

2. Fox’s Barrassy’s Copyright JW 3 yr Irish Wolfhound bitch who I would prefer to be slightly taller. Strong head, decent neck, good shoulders and ribbing, strong loin. Slightly narrow behind on the move.

AV Hound Veteran

1. Virgo & Hicks’ AM CH Suni Asia Wish Upon a Star by Sumahari (IMP USA) ShCM ShCEx 8yr old Afghan male in excellent condition. No doubting he is male looking at him. Good front with well laid shoulder. Ribbing carried well back. Excellent rear which he uses well on the move.

3. Taylor’s Falconcrag Valenta

Hound Group

1. Lancashire & O’Donnell’s Drishaun Say She Ain’t Gazon (AI) JW – Loved this cream domino bitch, so feminine, she has that look of arrogance and keenness so typical of this breed. Lengthy neck leading into very good shoulders with good length of upper arm. Good ribbing and strong loin. Excellent rear which she uses so well on the move. Powered round the ring and looked a picture stacked. Was pushed hard by the lovely Ridgeback but couldn’t deny her the group today and delighted she went on to Best in Show. Well done.

2. CH Carlincox Pure Gold JW

3. Clayton- Smith’s Cairparavel Kiss from a Rose JW Smart Wirehaired Dachshund bitch with a lovely head, lengthy neck leading into good shoulders, long ribbing and balanced rear. Moved so soundly with good reach and drive.

4. Makey’s Gairside Special Interest GBGV bitch with a lovely head and expression, correct ear. Good neck leading into well angulated shoulders. Good ribbing and rear. Moved soundly with good reach and drive.

Hound Puppy Group

1. Veldtkammer Irresistible

2. Lewin’s Soletrader Special Effect – This young PBGV male has really come together since I judged him in January at 6 months, good head, well angulated both ends, good body and condition. Moved soundly from all angles showing good reach and drive in profile.

3. Dance’s Emem Solar Power – Smart Mini Wire Dachshund puppy who surely has a bright future, lovely head and length of neck, well angled shoulders, good ribbing. Balanced rear. Very smart on the move.

4. Bates & Maes-Jones’ Derochaise Blue Danube – Loved this rangy standard Wire Dachshund puppy who is at an awkward stage in development but I am sure he will come together to be a lovely dog when mature, so typical of his lines which I have long admired. Beautiful head and length of neck, good shoulders and rear angulation. Moved soundly with good reach and drive. I am sure in a few months he will settle into himself and be a very impressive male.
