Judge Ms Gretel Osborn (Elgert)

Rise ‘N’ Shine Stakes (29/13A)

1st Mr P P & Mrs D J Clark Tekalhaus The Excelsior (Long Haired Dach)

21 months old and full of show presence, he flowed round the ring holding his topline and head carriage superbly. Nice drive from rear with correct angulation fore and aft, lovely planes on head and such a melting expression.

2nd Mrs L J Barham Kenwardgold Minnie Me (Pointer)

Lovely outline when stacked, nice drive on the move covering the ground well showing strength & grace. Amazed to hear she was 7yrs old.

Spaniel (Cocker)

Puppy (6)

A difficult class this as all at different development stages.

1st Hutton-Baber,Messers J & D Esqueen Following Star at Babtonkepie (Imp POL)

Blue Roan, lovely compact outline on the stack showing correct length to heigh ratio. Head with nice square muzzle, adequate chiseling and good stop. Eye set and colour correct with a lovely gentle expression. Rounded firm rear quarters, gentle croup slope to tail set and correct loin length & bend of stifle allowing good drive. Front nicely set up with correct upper arm and good lay of shoulder. Nice breadth in front allowing for a lovely brisk action in the front on the move. Nicely feathered and mature for age, handled to perfection . Really liked this puppy – Best Puppy

2nd Mrs S Warrington Kenwad Cocoa at Zakova

Slightly smaller than 1 but everything to like, very attractive head and expression, slightly unsettled on the move which was a shame but only young and being so close to the door really didn’t help puppies who could see green space to go and play!! Lovely spring of ribs and deep brisket, good length to back and short loin, giving a pleasing outline and firm structure.

Junior (0)

Post Grad (6/2A)

1st Mrs H Baker Stobytill We’re Gonna Rock

Blue Roan, good depth of brisket & length of back, giving correct ground to withers and length ratio. All moderate throughout giving a nice outline, without any exaggeration allowing good strong movement. A lovely dog with good square muzzle and adequate chiseling under eye with correct eye shape and colour.

2nd Dr A Lundin, Omennes Star Lord

Slightly longer that the winner and not as clean in the front assembly on the move. Lovely head and expression with that kind cocker eye that you want to see.

Open (5)

A really lovely class of good exhibits, a credit to the breed and breeders that there were some fabulous movers here and many with a real ‘stamp’ that says Cocker Spaniel – well done all.

1st Mrs SE Warrington , Zakova Sugar Plum

Black & Tan, lovely lay of shoulder & nice reach of neck. Good top line held well on the move, hocks well let down allowing good drive from rear . Superb head with lovely gentle eye with that alert expression, chiseling correct and square muzzle with good stop . Delighted to award him BOB

2nd Mrs M Hutson, Sobytill After the Storm

Blue Roan of adequate size and height. Brisket correct and lay of shoulder, ribs well sprung with short loin allowing good correct strong movement. Again, a lovely head giving that true expression and attitude. Delighted to award RBOB

German Shorthaired Pointer

I have in the past done well for this breed in groups as being such a powerful breed built for power and endurance is is lovely and a joy to see the dogs move out correctly and with such drive. Again, today my entry showed the lovely workmanlike characteristics of the breed which always draws me to them. Thank you for your entries.

Puppy (3\2A)

Mr B Dymond, Quintana Diamond Dust at Friarsbelle

1st My notes state – Fabulous upstanding dog built for endurance and full of drive and attitude with full breed type, giving full powerful outline and stance. Couldn’t really add to this! Only 11mths but sure he has a fabulous future. Delighted to award him BP & BOB which he won over the Open Dog on type and just preferred his length and ground coverage when stood. Gundog Group 4 & Puppy Group 3 in fabulous company in both Groups.

2nd Mrs S E Warrington, Zakova Aria

Again 11 mths, but a smaller bitch all round, nice front and good strong nicely arched neck. Perhaps a little short in back for the correct outline but only a youngster so time on her hand. Moved ok and covered the ground well.

Junior (no entries)

Post Graduate (3)

1st Mr C Mewse, Allezweck Toccoa At Krimshar

A large boy that was not behaving his best for his owner. However, has a good length with correct loin and nice arch to croup, would prefer better stifle and more bend to allow for a cleaner more powerful movement, but as said was not settled well today. Head a lovely clean cut head with depth and broadness to it.

2nd Mrs S Edlin, Graygees Tsarine

Again, needs to settle on the move. All throughout well put together, giving that true outline and ground coverage. Not too long in back with a good firm loin. Good rear angulation and straight hocks allowing for good movement when she settled.

Open (2/1A)

Mrs N Coe, Goosepoint Waddington AT Abbanash (AI) JW

A 3yr old full of breed type. Good ground cover with deep chest, well sprung ribs and nice length of back leading to arched loin. Nice adequate breadth to his croup allowing for a wonderful rear assembly of correct construction with powerhorse written all over him. A lovely boy who just lost out to the BOB as preferred the puppies shorter loin length for that overall appearance. RBOB

Retriever Labradors

A breed I was looking forward to judging as have enjoyed learning about them in the Seminar and also chatting to fellow exhibitors, so was disappointed to have so many absentees, but unfortunately, I know that is how showing goes sometimes. But thank you for my entries.

Puppy (5/4A)

Miss L Porter, Winnellands Vanilla Sky

1st Stood alone in this class but a lovely shape to her. Lovely shape eye with correct eye pigment colour. Good straight front with strong bone, legs placed well under body. Barrel chest with nice spring of rib, level topline and good slope to tail of correct shape. Hocks well let down and straight giving good clean rear action. Lovely girl that deservedly won BP & BOB & she didn’t stop showing her socks off to gain herself a Group 4 in the Puppy Group .

Junior (5/4A)

1st Miss L Porter, Winnellands Vanilla Sky

Post Graduate (3/3A)

Open (2/2A)

Retriever (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling)

I am very lucky that we have some Tollers on our Shoot so the joy of watching them work is paramount in my mind when judging. As with all Gundogs they should be fit for a purpose as well as rather stunning in a show ring, delighted to say I was not disappointed in my entries as all my winners I am sure would be happy working a full day on a shoot. A really lovely entry and I thank you all so much.

Puppy (6)

What a fabulous class and I see that my line up are all from one litter, well done to the breeder for such consistency and I am sure they will swop places on many occasions.

1st Miss H Strevens, Tollisty You Can’t Decline

Aptly named, I couldn’t decline him 1st, BP & BOB. 8 months old but so mature, gorgeous shape to him when stacked, giving you that lovely outline showing true power but compact with a lovely confident happy disposition. Good shaped head with correct occiput and good stop. Eyes kind and correct almond shape, ears of good size and set correctly high, all giving the alert expression as required. Front angulation lovely with strong neck set on well with good lay of shoulder, tight elbows and correct straight front. Back correct length and adequate loin and tuck up flowing into a strong rear with excellent muscle and correct shape throughout allowing for a strong action when on the move. He didn’t let me down in the Group awarding him Adult Group 3 & Puppy Group 2 – I am sure has a great future.

2nd Miss A Dorrell, Tollisty Moet en Chandon

Litter brother to winner, similar comments apply. A real credit to the breeder this litter and splitting hairs on the placings. Would prefer slightly tighter feet and just needs to settle a bit more on the move. Lovely puppy though

Junior (1)

1st Mrs K Smith, Tollisty Couldn’t CareLess

Again same litter, she was unsettled today on the move & would prefer slightly longer neck, however at this age it is all so hard with coat and different maturing ages so would be pleased to see her again and watch how she grows.

Post Graduate (1)

1st Miss M Last, Gingafing Must have Been Luv

A 2 yr old smaller more compact girl, slightly out of coat today. However a lovely correct pretty head with good clean eyes of correct shape and colour. Good straight hocks allowing for good drive on movement.

Open (2)

1st Miss S Stevens, SH CH Tollelkin Caife Gaelach at Tollisty

A 2 yr old with a lovely deep chest, good spring of rib and correct length to height ration. Nice bone with clean straight front. Lovely eye and shape of skull giving that unique look of a Toller. Beautifully presented and moved well with drive. Just lost out to the younger dog today for BOB who just stole the show today! RBOB

2nd Mrs K Smith, Tivalake Anything Goes at Tollisty JW

I see from looking at the catalogue this is the dam of the gorgeous litter. My notes say very lovely bitch just not settled on the move today loosing her the class, but a very close call.

AVNSC Gundog

Puppy (9/4)

1st Mrs J Weyman Spuffing Prosecco (English Springer Spaniel)

Really lovely 8mth old English Springer Spaniel. Totally full of breed type, lovely front angulation and excelled in head. Good reach of neck leading into good shoulders and topline held well on the move. Will tighten on her rear movement as she matures up, but such a cracking baby.

2nd Mrs Deering, Pettifox of Rosetimber

English Setter who flowed round the ring. Lovely outline and good front and rear assembly with just the right amount of coat to give a good picture and breed shape. Wonderful expression just melting.

Junior (5)

1st Mr Williams, Richecca Midwinter

English Setter, lovely outline and shape to him, lean head with nicely rounded skull with good occiput. Eye colour correct with coat colour. Good shoulder placement with good lay back of shoulder, allowing full reach and drive in front action.

2nd Mr & Mrs Walker, Dexenbella Double Vision

English Springer Spaniel, a really lovely outline to her, showing great strength to her but with a femininity to her. Lovely dark eye with tight rims giving a soft expression. Played the fool today on the move but when settled had lovely reach in front and good drive from rear. BP AVNSC

Post Graduate (5)

1st Ms W Wood, Stormdancer do Something

Weimaraner, Nicely put together with nothing exaggerated in any way, giving the impression of power but nothing exagerated . Front assembly correct with front legs sitting nicely under, chest deep with good ribs extending to correct short loin. Rear nicely broad giving power on the move.

2nd Mrs A Crouch, Trimere Timeless with Kassan

English Springer Spaniel. Lovely headpiece sitting on good strong neck leading to good lay of shoulder and good boned front legs on good tight pads. Back held well on the move with correct length and loin allowing for drive from rear when she settled more.

Open (7/1)

1st Mayhew & Middleton, SH CH Arnac Bay Hebe

Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Just looked the part standing and on the move, strong powerful strides giving the true impression of a workman like dog that could go on all day. On going over him the strength just oodes out of him, everything fits well to make the movement true and sound, a very worthy winner. Delighted to Award him BOB AVNSC and in a very strong Gundog Group award him Group 2

2nd Upton-Lovett & Lovett, Gunalt Illustrious with Roydack

Weimaraner, Such a lovely gentle beautiful head & eye giving such character. Fabulous muscle tone throughout allowing for wonderful stride and power on the move. Reserve Best of Breed

AV Import Register Gundog

Junior (1)

Mrs A Dando, Stormdancer Romance

Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer, stood alone but a worthy winner. Good Outline, body length just lightly more than height, giving the impression of sturdiness and durability. Shoulder nicely sloping and well laid back, good feet and tight pasterns. Good oval, broad ribcage of correct long length, with good luck up. Rear correct and well muscled good drive. Would prefer a slightly harsher coat but as still a baby time on her hands. BP Import Register & BOB

AV Veteran Stakes

Always a pleasure to see the Veterans out and enjoying themselves and showing that it is not all about the youngsters at shows!

1st Mrs S & Miss E Pilkerington, Molkara Vuvuzela ScCM

Cocker Spaniel, defying her 11 year old age and storming round the ring with great power and drive. Full of breed type and solid through with great muscle tone allowing her to win this class on her movement and breed type.

2nd Ms A Brooksmith, Nightgold Blackavar VW

Pointer, another of nearly 11 years old, a lovely aristocratic headpiece of correct shape with good breadth and slight concave muzzle of good length . Well put together body held well on the move and again another wonderful mover.

Gundog Group

I must say what a privilege and honour it was to judge such a wonderful quality Group, may I thank and congratulate the other judges for putting through some outstanding dogs of great merit and type. Totally spoilt for choice!

Group 1 – Crocker & Lewis Mr B & Miss C, Irish Setter, Riverbrue Wonderwall at Hernwood. A very imposing setter full of wonderful breed type, racy, showing strength and stamina but equally not overdone in anyway. A great head piece with wonderful dark eye giving a richness to his expression. Moved with effortless ease round the ring with a never stopping wagging tail totally enjoying day with the ‘look at me’ attitude that I could not deny him the Group 1 place.

Group 2 – Mayhew & Middleton C&J, Sh Ch Anac Bay Heve, Chesapeake Bay Retriever that so impressed me earlier and never stopped wanting to show himself to his best.

Group 3 Miss H Stevens, Tollisty You Can’t Decline, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, this young dog of only 8mths really defied me not to give him a place – really pulled out all the stops and never stopped enjoying it . Puppy Group 2

Group 4 Mr B Dymond, Quintana Diamond Dust at Friarsbelle, GSP, another young dog that was equally happy in the Adult Group showing to perfection as he was in the Puppy Group.

Puppy Group

Another strong Group and with 2 of my Adult Group placings in the group it really made for some tough decisions.

Group 1 Mr & Mrs Taylor, Alibren Aldanti at Tannadice – Golden Retriever. Caught my eye when he first came into the Group, held his topline well throughout and really put in a sterling performance showing grace of movement covering the ground well, superbly muscled and put together, a really true class puppy.

Group 2 Miss H Stevens, Tollisty You Can’t Decline, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (Adult Group 3)

Group 3 4 Mr B Dymond, Quintana Diamond Dust at Friarsbelle, GSP, another young dog that was equally happy in the Adult Group showing to perfection as he was in the Puppy Group. Adult Group 4

Group 4 Miss L Porter, Winnellands Vanilla Sky, Lab, again another of my earlier winner and still showing well and to her credit. Beautifully put together bitch, sound strong movement covering the ground well.
