Irish Setter

Puppy (2,1)

1st Walker’s Trefaine All That Jazz Best Puppy In Breed

Very raw young baby at just six months old but already showing lovely proportions. Feminine and racy with an elegant outline and shape, sweet head and expression with lovely dark eye and good brows into a lovely reach of neck and good sternum. A little steep in croup at the moment but she has time on her side. Already possessing a lovely turn of stifle and short neat pasterns. She took a little while to settle but once she did showed herself off well on the move for one so young.

Junior (2,0)

1st Sproson’s Swiftlark Illustrious

Very pretty fourteen month old bitch, well bodied and mature for her age. Clean in outline and nicely proportioned. Sweet head and expression, showing correct planes, good stop and strong brows. Good layback of shoulder and return of forearm into well sprung rib and muscular loin. Scored over second in hindquarters, being well muscled, showing nice turn of stifle and stood on lovely neat feet.

2nd Sproson’s Swiftlark Invincible, A substantial fourteen month old male, litter brother to first, again very well bodied for his age. Strong head with correct eye shape, strong raised brows and good finish to foreface. Good length of neck setting cleanly into topline. Nice width of upper thigh and in good muscle tone just not the turn of stifle of the first place and longer in pastern. He was a little unsettled on the move today and did tend to carry his tail a little high.

Post Graduate (7,2)

1st Cohen’s Lynwood Merry May King With Shushana

Reserve Best Of Breed

Substantial two and a half year old boy just approaching full maturity, heavier built but completely in proportion and unexaggerated. Lovely head and expression with correct eye shape and dark colour, good chiselling and stop and strong occiput. Neck could be a little cleaner but was well arched, strong and of good length. Lovely shoulders on this boy with matching return of forearm highlighting a lovely sternum. Perhaps a fraction wide at the front on the stack but true and stood on good feet. Super width to upper thigh and well muscled hindquarters. Steeper in croup than the Best Of Breed Winner but topline gently sloping and maintained on the move which was collected with reach and drive, just not the articulation in the hock joint today although the flooring did present some difficulty.

2nd Sproson’s Swiftlark Illustrious See 1st in Junior

Open (3,0)

1st Hart’s Gwendariff In The Limelight With Gilliegrae JW Sh.CM

Best Of Breed and Gundog Group 2

Smaller built boy but completely balanced and in proportion. Striking in outline, elegant and racy but still masculine. Super head, very well chiseled with raised brow, showing good stop and correct parallel plains. Moderately long well arched neck into a nicely laid back shoulder and good return of forearm, ribs well sprung and with good depth and length of ribcage into muscular loin, just a fraction short in croup for me but showing a lovely tailset and his topline flows from nose to tail. Nice width of upper thigh into strong turn of stifle and short pasterns, sitting on fabulous tight feet. Striking on the move, moving out very well on what was a difficult surface, being true at the front with good width and stability at the rear, lovely reach at the front and matching rear extension, covering the ground efficiently with animation.

2nd Sproson’s Swiftlark First Knight

Seven year old male, larger built boy than 1st. Nice head with dark eye, good stop and correct finish to foreface. Strong neck setting cleanly into topline, wider at the front on the stack but true and stood on good tight feet, with a good sternum and spring of rib. Sweeping turn of stifle and neat rear pasterns just would prefer his tailset to be a shade higher. A little loose at the front on the move and understandably not showing the exuberance of the youngsters today.
