Westmorland County Agricultural Society
Thank you so much to the Dog Section of this show for inviting me to judge at this prestigious county agricultural show. Unfortunately, it was very wet weather, but my husband and I still enjoyed the agricultural events, which were quite different to what we have in the south. I had some top-class terriers to judge. Thank you to the exhibitors for my good entry, both quantity and quality, also their friendly attitude after judging. A special thank you to my stewards.
BORDER TERRIER
PUPPY (5)
1. Fawcett’s Carrock Carvetti. A very promising puppy. So well balanced. Good ‘otter’ head, well proportioned, with broad, flat skull. Small V shaped ears very nicely placed and used. Straight fore legs, with correct bone. Deep, narrow body, easily spannable. Nicely muscled. Small feet, good tail set. Thick pelt and harsh coat. Moved out very soundly. BEST PUPPY.
2. Taylor’s Nottorg Nekesa. Won her place on movement. Produced a well-balanced outline. Head OK, but not the ears of above. Correct structure, spannable with good pelt and coat. Well-muscled and moved very well.
3. Johnson’s Hightarn Nightfall at Roseghyll.
4. Atkinson’s Raedwulf Nightfall.
5. Atkinson’s Raedwulf Daybreak.
JUNIOR (4)
1. Atkinson’s Raedwulf Nightfall. Although only placed fourth in the previous class, this is quite a nice puppy dog. He is very balanced and has a very nice outline. Nice ‘otter’ moved. He had good ears of correct size, falling to cheek and has width of skull for his head to develop into. He was spannable and had a good pelt. His movement let him down for a higher place in the previous class.
2. Taylor’s Hightarn Nightingale at Nottorg. He had a decent head. Good reach of neck, level topline and correct tail set. Correct coat texture, good pelt and easily spanned.
3. Atkinson’s Raedwulf Daybreak.
4. Blakey’s Kentwone Monstro.
POST GRADUATE (8)
1. Potts’ Kadaredhills Breaking Free. This lovely dog caught my eye as soon as he came into the ring. He had a very good head and super ear placement. Nice neck flowing into good shoulders, straight front legs, with correct bone. Narrow body with ribs carried well back. Easily spanned, with good pelt. In good fit condition and muscled. Moved very soundly. Not so outgoing as some.
2. Atkinson’s Raedwuf Mata Hari JW. Still quite a young bitch. Attractive head with good ear set. Nicely bodied, spannable with good pelt. Presented in a double jacket with close undercoat of real depth. Well-muscled hindquarters, allowing good driving action. Held her shape well in profile. Needs to settle.
3. Rostron’s Hightarn Nighthawk.
4. Blakey’s Aryabe Another Choice.
LIMIT (4)
1. Atkinson’s Tojamatt Rhythm N’Blues at Raedwulf. A smart dog, showing off a very nice outline. Good head and forequarters. Super fore chest with well boned front legs. Good coat with a nice pelt. Moved very well.
2. Johnson’s Kentixen Mint Imperial at Roseghyll. Nice sized dog but did not appear to have the style of above. Super ‘otter’ head. Lovely narrow body that was spannable. Moved OK.
3. Potts’ Kadaredhills Henley Star.
4. Balkey’s Craigshield Bucks Eulogy.
OPEN (6)
Two beautiful bitches.
1. Singh’s Goldenmill Illusion at Vandamere. A grizzle bitch, shown in fabulous condition with good coat, harsh outer coat and undercoat, with loose pelt. Ideal for size and easy to span. Lovely profile when stood, shows off all her virtues and held on the move. Beautiful ‘otter’ head, with broad skull and short, strong muzzle, large teeth and good scissor bite. Super ears, well placed and keen eyes. Good neck, shoulders, straight front and small feet. Although a racy type she was very well muscled. Moved accurately and true. I wish she had a bit more animation. However, her breed attributes outweighed her lack of showmanship. I was pleased to award her Best Terrier and BEST OF BREED.
2. Fawcett’s Carrock Curiosity JW. Another lovely grizzle bitch, with a super ‘otter’ head. Broad skull, well set ears of correct size and lovely keen eyes. Good length of neck leading into well laid shoulders. Nice fore chest and narrow all through with a level topline held on the move. Spannable with thick pelt. Ribs reach well back. Moved very well, covering the ground with ease. She was lacking in coat on the day, with nothing to hide, showing off her balanced outline.
3. Rostron’s Keebank Withy Song.
4. Keeffe’s Keebank Just in Time.
5. Tipping’s Houndshope Silver Point.
FOX TERRIER (WIRE)
I was very pleasantly surprised to find such quality Wire Fox Terriers at an agricultural open show.
JUNIOR (2)
1. Rice’s Oh La Kamee Nickers at Duchmore. What a stunning elegant bitch puppy, out of the ‘top drawer.’ I thought her outline was absolutely wonderful. Initially, a little apprehensive, but soon gained her confidence. She has a very balanced head, with flattish skull, good dentition, small V shaped ears, well folded and placed on top of skull. Dark, keen eyes. Good reach of neck flowing into well sloping shoulders. Deep body for age, level topline, short back, short coupled and good tail set. Moved very well when settled. Presented in excellent coat and handled well. I will watch her progress with great interest! So pleased she went on to be Reserve Best Puppy in Show. BEST PUPPY.
2. Roulston’s Brocolita Clementia at Ivyjewel. Another lovely WFT, not quite the beautiful outline of above, but very nice. Good head, having flattish skull, well set, neatly folded ears. Neck well set on, leading to good lay of shoulder. Straight front. Ribs reach well back. Good coat texture. Stifles well bent and hocks well let down. Moved very straight and true.
POST GRADUATE (1)
1. Roulston’s Kentwone Boston to Ivyjewel. Very Smart young dog, full of quality. Well-proportioned head, with dark, round intelligent eyes. Good neck, shoulders and straight front legs, well boned. Level top line, well sprung ribs, muscular hindquarters with well bent stifles and hocks well let down. Moved well. Presented well in good coat.
OPEN (2)
1. Rice’s Winning Colours at Duchmorn. A very smart 7-year-old dog, who pushed hard for Best Terrier, but his age began to tell in the challenge. A real credit to his owner/exhibitor. He has such an outstanding ‘terrier’ presence and keen attitude. Nicely balanced head, flat skull, excellent ear carriage and good eyes, giving correct expression. Good length of neck and nice front. Short, level back and very short coupled. Strong, muscled hindquarters. Moved extremely well for his age. Presented in excellent coat, enhancing his lovely shape. Won Best of Breed due to his short back. I was pleased to award him Best Terrier Veteran. BEST OF BREED.
JACK RUSSEL TERRIER
JUNIOR (2)
1. Blakey’s Hunterhawk John McEnroe. Lovely temperament. Good, well-proportioned head, with flat skull. Presented a nice overall shape. Moved freely, covering the ground. In good condition and nicely muscled. BEST OF BREED.
PARSON RUSSEL TERRIER

1. Casson’s Heythorp Toptrick. A lovely, outgoing 7-month-old puppy, full of personality, with many good qualities. Well-proportioned head with moderately broad, flat skull. Almond eyes, giving keen expression. Correct, small ears, set well. Good length of neck, long, sloping shoulders and straight front. Moderate depth of chest and spannable. Strong hindquarters with good angulation and bend of stifle. Moved well, straight and freely. In good coat. BEST PUPPY & BEST OF BREED.
2. Rimmer’s Plunkett Prosecco at Kylini. An older bitch, but not having the personality. A nice type if she would have shown herself off. A lovely tri-colour. Good head proportions. Thick pelt and spannable. Moved OK when happier.
OPEN (2)
1. Casson’s Mindlen Hendricks. A good type, with a masculine wedge-shaped head, dark eyes and correct bite. Good shoulders, straight front and moderate depth of chest. Spannable and well balanced. Good coat and thick pelt. Moved well. Presented in good condition.

Noticeable tuck up and well-muscled hindquarters. Stands four square, on good feet, with good tail set. Moved freely with drive from the rear. Lovely shiny coat. BEST PUPPY.

ANY VARIETY NOT SEPARATELY CLASSIFIED TERRIER
JUNIOR (1)
1. Foster’ Bull Terrier (Miniature), Badlesmere Bobbing Along. Very nice 9-month-old puppy bitch, producing a correct outline. Egg-shaped head of correct proportions. Small thin erect ears, which I would have liked placed higher on the head. Nice triangular shaped eyes. Muscular neck. Forelegs straight with strong, round bone. Well-rounded body and curved underline. Muscled hindquarters with stifle joint well bent. Moved well. BEST A.V.N.S.C. TERRIER PUPPY.
POST GRADUATE (2)
1. Pendlebury’s Scottish Terrier, Pamaswater Bold Begonia at Kamondale. A good type of Scottie. Presented in good condition with correct double coat. Harsh, dense, wiry outer coat and softer undercoat. Moved OK.
2. Bamber’s Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Dentgate Silk Red Ribbon. Good overall type, presented in good coat, which is a very important feature of this breed. Large, full, round, appealing eyes. Thighs well developed, with angulated stifles. Moved quite well.
OPEN (4)
1. Roberts’ Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Power of Love De Cynoeole at Marbledale (IMP FRA). A nice type of Dandie. Large, strong head, with broad skull and characteristic ‘topknot’. Correct pendulous ears, large, bright appealing eyes and large black nose. Would have preferred slightly more rise over the loin, but topline not too bad. Moved OK with propulsion from the rear. BEST A.V.N.S.C. TERRIER.
2. Hardman’s Irish Terrier, Bonosue If’s an Illusion. One I have judged before. A really super profile on the table. Well-proportioned head, flat skull and good ear carriage. Excellent reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Frill around the neck coming. Strong level topline with adequate stifles. Nice tail set. Correct crisp coat. Unfortunately, his movement let him down today, it seemed quite erratic, which was a great shame.
3. Leverton’s Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Carkbank Good Luck Charm ShCM.
