Evesham & District Canine Socie

Thank you to the officers and committee of this well-run Premier Open show for inviting me to judge the following breeds. I was pleased with the entry, but due to the very hot weather some exhibitors decided not to come. My ring was nice and shady to enable the exhibits and exhibitors to stay as cool as possible.

BORDER TERRIER

PUPPY (2)

1. Nightingale’s Know bury Dream of Dreams. Nine-month-old bitch, with a good head. Mouth correct and ears placed well. Nice body shape and spannable. BEST PUPPY.

JUNIOR (4)

My hardest decision of the day. Both 1st & 2nd lovely Borders, who should have a great future. Both had super ‘otter’ heads with broad skulls, keen eyes and good ear placement. I preferred the bitch’s head slightly more. Both had straight forelegs, good, spannable bodies. Well-muscled and fit. Correct hindquarters, neat feet and nice tail sets. Both had good coat and pelt. They both moved well, but I thought the dog moved out more on the day.

1. Stevens’ Cobstoneway Stand by Me. BEST OF BREED.

2. Girling’s Benattivo Silver Flame. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

3. White’s Black Nightshade.

POST GRADUATE (3)

1. Girling’s Benattivo Silver Flame. Repeat.

OPEN (3)

1. Hyslop’s Rocksam at Raisbeck. Nice ‘otter’ head with broad skull. Straight forelegs. Correct harsh, dense coat with close undercoat. Pelt and body OK, but not spannable. Not moving well on the day.

BORDER COLLIE

PUPPY (3)

1. Shahmatova’s Nashdom All Eyes on You. 6-month-old dog puppy, maturing well. An easy winner of this class. Well-proportioned head, but I would have preferred a more distinct stop. Good neck and shoulders, straight forelegs. Athletic body of the correct length. Well-turned stifle, giving free, smooth gait, with minimum lift. Coat coming well. BEST PUPPY.

2. Lea’s Calareto All My Loving. Very nice head, with fairly broad skull and correct amount of stop. Good ear set and shape of eyes. Provided a very nice outline, with good angulation fore and aft. Nicely bodied. Correct tail. Moved OK when settled.

3. Jordan’s Raesfell Cosmic Ice for Jakovall.

JUNIOR (3)

1. Lampier’s Pencoppen Joyeux Soiree. Won her class on maturity and temperament. Well structured. Correct neck, well laid shoulders and straight forelegs. Athletic body. Well-muscled hindquarters with well-turned stifles and well let down hocks. Moved very well. In super coat.

2. Shahmatova’s Nashdom Lost in Your Eyes. Only just 6 months old. Very much the baby in this class and rather apprehensive. Appears to have larger ears, I expect she will grow to them. A very nice type just needs confidence and maturity to show herself off.

POST GRADUATE (4)

1. Greening’s Kanamaren Take These Pearls. Very attractive feminine bitch. Although face marking detracts, she has got a super well-proportioned head, broad skull, distinct stop and good ears. Lovely shoulders well laid back and elbows close to body. Very well-made body, with sprung ribs, correct height and length, athletically proportioned, giving a balanced look. Well-muscled with good turn of stifle producing lovely free, smooth movement with minimum lift of feet. Very ‘Fit for Purpose’. I like her a lot. Judged her before and placed her well. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

2. Lampier’s Pencoppen Jaunty Spree. A similar type. With good head, body and movement. Well-muscled and fit.

3. Chance’s Goytre Chance to Reflect

4. Allison’s Kinaway a Million Dreams (AI)

LIMIT (2)

1. Lampier’s Pencoppen Good Timin’. A very nice type. Good head, nice lay of shoulder and correct body shape. Well-muscled hindquarters with good turn of stifle. Moved well, but has no animation, which is a shame.

OPEN (7)

1. Shahmatova’s Nashdom Putting on the Style JW. Lovely dog, showing so well. Super well-proportioned, masculine head with distinct stop, broad skull, dark eyes and good ears. Good length of neck, leading to a well laid shoulder. Well bodied, correct length, very nice profile, with level topline. Muscled hindquarters with good turn of stifle. Good bone and feet. Tail set and carriage good. Mature coat presented and handled well. Moved with reach and drive, covering the ground with ease. BEST OF BREED.

2. Lampier’s Tonkory I’m All Right Jack. A very nice dog for nine years old. Good head and ear carriage. Nice body, good hindquarters and moved well.

3. Chance’s Goytre Chance in a Million (AI).

4. Allison’s Zeabo Yankie Girl (Imp Ita)

BRIARD

JUNIOR (3)

1. Foreman’s Stormfield Aysa at Marazzo. 11-month-old puppy bitch of glorious colour. Well-proportioned feminine head with defined stop, dark eyes and well-set ears. Correct length of neck. Shoulders well angulated and well laid back. Chest nice and deep for age with good width. Topline level, strong bone, bodying well. Well-muscled, angulated hindquarters, hocks correct. Double dew claws set low on hindlegs. Correct tail. Coat coming well. Playing up in the hot weather but moved OK when settled. I was pleased she was placed in the group. BEST PUPPY & RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

OPEN (3)

1. Thorp’s Ch. Charson Worth the Wait. A lovely mature 5-year-old dog. A worthy champion. In full coat, looking his best. Good head proportions, with ears set on high covered by long hair. Well-built body, with back firm and level. Nicely angulated, muscled hindquarters, with double dew claws. Tail with upward hook to tip, carried well. BEST OF BREED.

COLLIE (ROUGH)

OPEN (3)

1. Skinner’s Samhaven Time is Money with Nikal. Lovely, elegant, old lady, coping well in the heat. Good head proportions, with flat skull. Super ears well placed and tipped. In good body for her age. Muscular hindquarters with well-bent stifles. Tail reaching hock joint. In full coat. Moved satisfactorily for her age in the heat. BEST OF BREED.

COLLIE (SMOOTH)

JUNIOR (1)

1. Wensley’s Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive. Lovely 11-month-old mature tri colour dog puppy, standing with dignity. Super head, with excellent proportions, resembling a blunt wedge with flat skull. Attentive to handler, making best use of well-set eyes and ears. Good underjaw. Correct neck flowing into well laid-back shoulders, standing on straight front legs and oval well arched feet. Lovely outline and firm topline. Correct tail set, length and carried well. Muscular hindquarters with well bent stifles, giving drive from the rear. Distinctive Collie movement, having good stride. Had a good shiny coat to complete the picture. Tempted to give him BOB. RESERVE BEST OF BREED & BEST PUPPY.

POST GRADUATE (2)

1. Davies & Brown’s Breckamore Blessings at Wystry. A very nice tri colour bitch. With a change of handler, she began to sparkle. The feminine version and same attributes as above. Another with good head planes and ear set. Correct length of arched neck and depth of chest laid back shoulders, good return of upper arm, spring of rib, loins, topline and length of back. Well-turned stifles and low set, firm hocks. Beautiful outline that certainly catches the eye. Moved well. Tail set and carriage good. So glad the handlers changed! BEST OF BREED.

OPEN (4)

1. Martin’s Shandlmain Blu Chief. Mature masculine dog. Blue merle with lovely colour and markings. A bit too much of him for me but had a balanced outline. Typical head, good wedge, strong under-jaw, dark almond shaped eyes. Super ears, well placed. Well laid shoulders, adequate neck, level topline. Nice hindquarters. Low tail set. Moved OK. Good coat of harsh texture.

2. Shandlmain’s Shuri with Sturtmoor. Feminine bitch. Nicely proportioned head, resembling a blunt wedge, flat skull and slight stop. Eyes good but spoilt by ears. Which to me, is such an important element of a Collie’s expression. Good conformation and feet.

FINNISH LAPPHUND

POST GRADUATE (2)

1. Matheson’s Thisleglen Belladonna. It is a shame this nice bitch does not like going to shows and showing herself off. As I thought she was a nice specimen. She had the correct head portions, broad, with defined stop. Good body with level topline. Powerful hindquarters, that gave her the correct effortless, brisk movement. Profuse coat. RESERVE BEST OF BREED

OPEN (3)

1. Samuel’s Oberitz Buoremus. A very vocal chap, enjoying his day out. Well presented with very attractive colour and markings. Good head with forehead slightly rounded. Nice oval eyes of correct colour. Lovely head markings, giving a nice soft expression. Straight front with good bone, lovely angulation all through with sound, well-muscled top-line, good tail set and carriage, he moved out well, when concentrating. In excellent coat and condition. Pleased to award BOB to this cheeky fellow. BEST OF BREED

2. Matheson’s Lapptoppens Herax (Imp Swe). A very nice old dog of 10 years old. Good head with light hazel eyes to harmonise with his brown coat colour. A very nice type, carrying his tail over his back when moving. In profuse coat, which he must have found rather hot on the day.

3. Samuel’s Oberitz Upponalle.

LANCASHIRE HEELER

JUNIOR (1)

1. Grant-Parkes’ Parabar Phyaeonia. 11-month-old sweet puppy bitch, with outgoing personality. Good head portions and flat skull. Almond shaped lighter eyes to match liver and tan colouring of coat.
