The Miniature Dachshund Club
The Queen’s Jubilee Sub-Group Open Show, Saturday 19th June 2022
Thank you to the officers and committee for the kind invitation to judge at this well-run and friendly open show. I enjoyed my day with you very much & thank my stewards for keeping the ring running so smoothly.
Miniature Long Haired
Veteran (1, 0)
1st) Pitfold’s Luna Caprese D’Oroed’Argento of Follyfield (IMP ITA), silver dapple and tan dog, just into veteran, good overall type, perhaps a little squarer & taller than ideal, moved with enough reach and drive & stands on good legs and feet. BVIB.
Puppy Dog (2, 1)
1st) Poole’s Findowrie The Fusileer, B/T dog attending his first show, hope he has finished growing, even for his 7 months. Good head and eye, a shade upright in front & front feet are a bit slack. Firm topline & his rear is better than his front. Moving he goes with an easy, confident stride & presents a good picture. RBD & BPD.
Post Graduate Dog (4, 3)
1st) Pitfield’s Follyfield Fortissimo, chocolate and tan dog of just over two years, good head, eye a touch round, lacks a little for neck but firm topline & neat underline, moved with a decent stride from all directions; prefer to see his tail carried a little lower. Well presented and handled.
Open Dog (3, 2)
1st) Hall’s Cliffmere Woodman, red dog of 3.5 years; loved his head and eye, keen expression, decent neck and forehand; topline firm, falls away a touch steeply at the croup, very accurate away and back & the best here in profile. BD & BOB.
Puppy Bitch (2, 1)
1st) Poole’s Findowrie Jessica Rose, 11 month cream bitch, very nice type & most promising, correct head and expression, well bodied but not overdone, firm topline & tail set and carried correctly. Went with a free, easy action & has a very nice temperament. BPB & BPIB.
Junior Bitch (5, 1)
1st) Hall’s Cliffmere Edith, sired by BD & approx. 18 months old, not carrying a lot of coat today but she doesn’t have a lot to hide either! So typical in all respects, excellent head and eye, okay in front, firm topline & very stylish on the move – stands on good legs and feet which was the exception rather than the norm today. BB & RBOB.
2nd) Norris’ Urishay mandine at Criscan, b/t bitch & another that presents a nice picture standing when she settles into herself. Good head and eye, if a touch round; shoulders could be better & this told against her, firm topline & goes with enough drive and reach, RBB.
Post Graduate Bitch (3, 1)
1st) Poole’s Findowrie Miss McFee, shaded red bitch of a lovely overall make and shape, she was better on the move than 2. Good head and eye, stands on good legs and feet, firm topline & she went with a good, easy stride. Presented in excellent coat and condition.
2nd) Aneke’s Sanmik Little Beautiful Lady, by the same sire I see & she too is a nice red shaded red bitch; better feet than the winner but taller and rangier at the moment. Good on the move, though not the drive or extension of the winner on the day. Worth persevering with!
Limit Bitch (2, 0)
1st) Cox’s Dolyharp Sweet Harmony, shaded red bitch of just over 18 months, nice overall shape and type, good head and expression, heavier built all through, front feet a touch slack but she was the best mover in the class, particularly in profile.
2nd) Norton’s Halunke Super Magic, shaded red bitch, about a year older than the winner, also a very nice one & better in feet and pasterns, just a touch taller & not quite as accurate on the day.
Miniature Wire Haired
Puppy (5, 2) Nice class – each at differing stages of development and all with a future I am sure.
1st) Gilkes, Storton and Storton’s Dereheath Shaken Not Stired at Birichino, 6 months or thereabouts & quite together for his age, liked his head and eye, keen expression, good front, topline can still firm a little; goes with a free, easy stride. Edged ahead of 2nd on overall balance & composure on the day.
2nd) Dance’s Emem Solar Power, 2 months older than the winner & conversely already quite an accomplished showman, little to dislike he too will have a good career, on the day I felt he looked a bit taller than the winner so as to lack a little balance.
3rd) Black’s Bothlyn Back In Black Bassodon
Post Graduate Dog (1, 0)
1st) Phillips’ Birichino Barley of Robinswood, over 3 year old chap & quite upstanding, good head and eye, taller on the leg, keeps his shape on the move and his coat was of the correct texture.
Open Dog (1, 0)
1st) Crossman’s Foxearth Fly By Night, 10 month old b/t male, surprised to find a puppy in open so asked his age twice – he is quite mature beyond his age, but not at all coarse or overdone. Typical coat for his colour, but a very good specimen. Excellent head and eye, okay for neck & stands on good legs and feet. Goes with good reach and drive. Very promising. BD, BPD & BPIB.
Puppy Bitch (5, 1)
1st) Dance’s Emem Autumnal Sunshine, litter sister to 2nd in puppy dog & shares many of his attributes, good head and eye, just strong enough whilst retaining femininity, well made all through, good legs and feet & in good coat.
2nd) Hayward’s Foxearth Fly Hostess, a month older than the winner & did everything she could not to win the class, she is a lovely min wire & a very nice type, quite typical in all respects but not so confident on the day. If she gets her act together, she could do well.
Limit Bitch (2, 1)
1st) Sexton’s Molloney Noodle Not A Doodle, really liked this bitch, most very houndy & good to go over, in good nick and goes well. Firm topline and neat underline, well made quarters & in good muscle; she was close up to the two I edged ahead of her.
Open Bitch (2, 0)
1st) Dance’s Emem Letty Bee Sunshine, nice bitch, good shape and size, touch full in eye, good to go over and nice angles front and rear, good prospect and very pleased to see her go BIS, should have a good summer on this form. BB, BOB & BIS.
2nd) Hayward’s Janter Riddle, also liked this bitch very much & would have given the winner a run for her money had she performed; a touch deeper than the winner & not the accuracy on the move; with confidence could do well. RBB & RBOB.
Miniature Smooth Haired
Veteran Dog Or Bitch (2, 0)
1st) Cross’ Stargang Sansa, almost 11 & she is lovely; belies her years and really goes well, a lovely shape and balance all through, firm topline for her age but underline just starting to go a touch, to look this good at her age she must have been a lovely youngster. BVIB – a pleasure to judge.
2nd) Mutton’s Poshpide Alfa Lady (IMP UKR), also a very nice type, good head and eye, not quite so accurate on the move as the winner but in excellent nick really enjoying herself.
Special Beginners Dog or Bitch (4, 1)
1st) Stevenson and Mitchell’s Gaberic’s Sorciere-de-L’ouest at Penwooddax (IMP FRA), a smart one, nice head and eye, good to go over & held shape on the move. Well handled & presented and in first class order.
2nd) Coote’s Andeysson Cape Verde, another one of good type, good to go over & moves with a good, free, easy stride. Perhaps not in quite the firm muscletone as the winner, but close up and could change places on another day.
Puppy Dog (6, 3)
1st) Cross & Black’s Riowood Red Boots, lovely young dog and a good prospect for the future, excellent head and eye, good to go over & well ribbed back, firm topline and underline, little to dislike & goes with the accuracy his construction suggests he might. A well deserved BD & BOB.
2nd) Harwood’s Paradigm Hector Colssus, another promising youngster with many of the same attributes as the winner, just not quite so mature in terms of body as yet; but plenty of time to mature into himself & should have a good career.
3rd) Smith’s Lillywell’s Simply Dashing
Junior Dog (3, 2)
1st) Lillywell’s Simply Dashing, 3rd in puppy dog & not so advanced as those above him, but a good prospect. New to his showing career I think & with some more exposure should have good days. Well handled and shown – keep going!
Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (1, 0)
1st) Stevenson and Mitchell’s Rioday Dishy Master Digby at Penwooddax, dishy indeed! Smart all through, good head and eye, shoulders well laid and enough depth to chest, good underline and firm topline, tail well set and carried & is sound enough on the move.
Limit Dog or Bitch (1, 0)
1st) Stevenson and Mitchell’s Rioday Dishy Master Digby at Penwooddax, see 1st PGD/B.
Open Dog or Bitch (4, 2)
1st) Mutton’s Ivan Poddibny Iz Omskoi Kreposti for Montone (Imp RUS), a shade different in type to some of the others here, typy enough in head & good to go over; accurate on the move & well presented and handled.
2nd) Robertson’s Ayseebee Look Whos Talking to Ravenswood, nice type, good head and eye, excellent dentition, well made all through with each part fitting into the next, not quite so accurate on the move on the winner which hindered here. Another well handled.
Puppy Bitch (7, 1)
1st) Smith’s Rayol Bohemian Rhapsody, lovely puppy & a really exciting prospect, loved everything about her today and think she should have an exciting career in the future. Best Puppy Bitch.
2nd) Smith’s Rayol Barcelona, similar to the winner & not surprised! Little between them, I just thought the winner was more together on the day but they could easily change places in the future.
3rd) Stevenson and Mitchell’s Gaberic’s Sorciere-De-L’Quest at Ppenwooddax (Imp FRA)
Junior Bitch (7, 2)
1st) Rudkin’s Dynastydax Alfreda JW, very nice bitch & close up here today, really liked her and she is so typical, keen expression, super forehand & well muscled throughout. Goes with a good, easy stride and is expertly handled. One for the future.
2nd) Coromina’s Victora De Los Olivios De Quinto, another nice one, perhaps a touch shorter than the winner, good head and expression, presented to perfection & clearly adores her handler, who did an excellent job.
3rd) Coote’s Andeysson Cape Verde
Post Graduate Bitch (3, 1)
1st) Coote’s Andeysson Cape Verde, third in JB, good to go over, correct head and eye, touch forward in shoulder but decent depth to chest, firm topline & good ribbing. Can come together on the move to advantage. Presented in good condition.
Limit Bitch (3, 1)
1st) Corominas Luna Nueva De Los Olivos De Quinto, loved this bitch, caught my eye as soon as she came in and continued to impress throughout her time in the ring, very good to handle, well knit & in hard muscular condition, much to commend her & she shows great promise for the future, I was delighted to award her a well deserved RBB.
2nd) Roberts and Smith’s Sonorra Ginger Snap for Rayol, another typey bitch with lots to commend her, not quite in the hard, fit condition of the winner but well made & moved with good accuracy in all directions.
Open Bitch (8, 4)
1st) Rudkin’s Ch Keydax Layla for Dynastydax JW, loved her, really beautiful head and eye, super forehand, excellent keel & ribbing; stands on good legs and feet, firm topline and underline & moves with such easy accuracy, it is hard not to be impressed. Well deserved BB & BOB.
2nd) Cross’ Logetta Pickled Lily JW, another good bitch, nice shape & balanced silhouette, in fit, hard condition, just couldn’t quite match the winner on the move today but will have many admirers as she is a really good bitch.
3rd) Mutton’s Montone Be Brave
Evan L Ryan (Cavallibrook/Feorlig)
