Newmarket & District Canine Society

Thank you to the committee for inviting back to judge their show and this time with the honour of judging Best in Show on both days and Supreme Best in Show. I was very pleased with the quality of the dogs, spoilt for choice does not do it justice.

Supreme Best in Show and BIS Day 1 was the Rhodesian Ridgeback, Cox’s Ch Carlincox Pure Gold JW. I could watch this bitch move forever, every piece falls into place with no exaggeration and you can just imagine her prowling the savannahs. Classy, elegant and well built, she moves with soundness, drive and purpose. In excellent muscular condition. Strong neck flows into nicely sloped shoulders, straight well boned front legs and deep chest. Good, strong back and tail set. Dense and glossy coat.

Supreme Reserve Best in Show and BIS Day 2 was the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, Down’s Elessar Howling Moon. I promise there was no nation bias from me! But when this dog was stacked on the table, he just turned his head to me when he was ready as though to say “you will love me”, and I sure did. Solid, substantial, sound and built for purpose. Excellent construction, moved with purpose around the ring with good driving gait.

Supreme Best Puppy in Show and BPIS Day 2 was the rather fabulous and classy Papillon, Ryan’s Uppercut Daydream Believers with Feorlig. This one is a true star and I will watch her show career with great interest. She is sound as a bell and clearly loves every minute in the ring with all eyes on her. Found her head and expression most appealing, with dark eyes, large and mobile ears, good reach of neck, level topline and a high set tail that she carries perfectly. She moves with great parallel action coming and going, and in profile has a typical free-flowing action in profile. Just lovely.

Reserve Supreme Best Puppy in Show and BPIS Day 1, was the Scottish Terrier. Greenwood’s Petmon Royal Gift. Very appealing young puppy, sound and well built, straight and strong topline that she carried on the move. Free and straight action with string drive. Dark and well set eyes with well proportioned head. Strong neck leading to well sloped shoulders and well boned forelegs.

Supreme Best Veteran in Show was the German Wirehaired Pointer, Jenkins’ Ch Kimmax Koming Home at Gerstenfeld ShCM. Lovely, well balanced head with dark and expressive soft eyes, well laid shoulders. Good harsh coat and powerful throughout which showed as she covered the ring with ease, holding her topline on the move.

Reserve Supreme Best Veteran in Show was the Doberman Linchbury’s Ch Ashlain Trypiti JW ShCM. Strong and powerful bitch. Liked her head. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulders, good depth of chest. Firm and level topline that she maintained on the move as she whizzed around the ring powered by strong, driving hindquarters.

Supreme Best Junior Handler was Izzy King. What a lovely surprise to be reminded that I had judged this young handler at Southern Counties a few years ago and awarded a first in the youngest age group. She has maintained the highest standard, her rapport with her dog is excellent, she makes full use of the ring, is carefully attentive to the judge without ever being distracted from getting the best out of her show dog.
