Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at this lovely venue at Llangollen
Pavilion in such a scenic setting. I was very honoured that so many exhibitors made the
journey to the show given the current cost of fuel. It is very much appreciated & I enjoyed
judging your dogs.
Dobermann
PG (5): What a lovely way to start the day with this class of quality puppies.
1 BP, PG1 & RBPIS Pollard’s Manzart Yuliana at Whizzbean, elegant black & tan bitch of 10
months, very anatomically sound & the most together both standing & moving. Good
strength through the forearms but retains femininity. Tidy feet, clean neck into shoulders,
excellent topline & strong through the rear pasterns being parallel to each other, in good
condition. Quality bitch, very close up for BOB. Absolutely delighted she won PG1 & then
went RBPIS; 2 Lafford’s Lateagain Wild Heart avec Sariandobes, 9 months brown & tan
bitch, nice bone for size, brisket down to elbow, good topline & rear angulation, moved co-ordinately.
Not quite as streamlined over the neck & shoulders as 1; 3 Hunt & Flitcroft’s Tuwos Mr Majestik Vonsallate.
O (1): BOB, Groves & Lafford’s Lateagain Satisfaction JW, mature black & tan male standing
over his ground with a lot of presence. Gave his handler a hard time being well on his toes
but when settled into his stack has a lovely clean outline with well-balanced angles fore &
aft. Good bone, tidy feet, brisket down to elbows, good spring of rib, moved well when
settled; 2 T Mr Majestik V, brown & tan puppy who is only 6 months. Appeals in head, clean
neck into shoulders, plenty of bone & strength through the forelegs, very well balanced,
lovely outline standing & moving in profile. Just needs to strengthen through his rear
pasterns.
American Cocker Spaniel
J (2, 1a): 1 BP, BOB & PG3, Jones’ Arrowbien Gin King, tri dog of 10 months, alone but very
worthy of his place. Appeals standing with square appearance & sloping topline but really
comes to life on the move with a great effortless side gait. Rounded skull, good open
nostrils, quality bone through the forelegs, lovely forechest which you can feel as you go
over him, good spring of rib, well angulated quarters. In lovely condition. Striking youngster.
PG (1): 1 Brannan’s Streak Of Lightning (Imp), buff male nearly rising 4, well off for bone,
straight & strong through the forearms, compact feet, brisket down to elbow, good
angulation & rear pasterns turning neither in nor out. Preferred the topline & movement of
the puppy for BOB.
O (1): A.
Cocker Spaniel
J (5, 2a): 1 BOB, Holland’s Crimicar Indigo Magic, blue roan male of 16 months, appeals
both standing & moving with compact appearance & level topline. Lovely head, nice
forechest, brisket down to elbow, good spring of rib, well balanced angles fore & aft. In
good condition with a lovely tone to him. Not exaggerated in any way. Moved & handled
well; 2 Henderson’s Pendedell Cosi Celeste, really pretty black bitch with compact
appearance & good coat. Clean neck into shoulders, good bone for size, straight through the
forearms, brisket down to elbow, good turn of stifle. Would prefer a little more muscle tone.
PG (4,2): 1 P Cosi Celeste; 2 Prydderch’s Rockllocers Happy Hints, blue roan bitch who was
giving her handler a hard time today so didn’t do herself justice. Compact in appearance,
level topline, good bone for size & rear angulation.
O (2,1a): 1 Prydderch’s Rockllocers Ibi, black & tan bitch, compact in appearance, good
bone through the forearms, good spring of rib, correct bend of stifle & strong through the
rear pasterns. Moved well once she got into her stride.
English Springer Spaniel
PG (1): 1 BOB, Thomas’ Tigerrock Ocellatus, rangy black, white & tan male of 4 years, in
super muscular condition which helped him keep his topline & shape both standing &
moving. Appealing head with kind expression, wide nostrils, good depth of flew, clean neck
into shoulders, good bone without being coarse, strong rear pasterns.
O (2, 1a): 1 Thomas’ Tigerrock Super Ted, liver & white male, half-brother to BOB winner
but not as so self-assured. Also in very good muscular condition, fit throughout his whole
body especially over the ribs, loin & hindquarters. Kind expression, good depth of flew,
strong bone through the forearms. Not so good on the move as BOB.
Large Munsterlander
O (1): 1 BOB Jenks’ Albadhu Hidden Potential, a tall boy in very good condition throughout his
body, really lovely head with an intelligent expression, clean neck, strong bone, firm across
the loin. Moved well in profile.
AVNSC Gundog
P (6, 3a): 1 BP & PG1, Bond’s Hazlenut King Of The Truffles (Imp), brown & white Lagotto
Romagnolo, what a super little minx. Lovely size, strong, sturdy but feminine. Stands out
immediately in outline being compact with excellent balance & angles fore & aft.
Well-presented but not overly stylised retaining that rustic appearance. Lovely head with correct
proportions & endearing expression. Really has an eye-catching side gait, goes off with
plenty of oomph & covers the ground with drive. Little wide coming towards but she’s still
only 6 months; 2 Hughes’ Heidsieck Amarone, brown roan Lagotto Romagnolo, & also really
lovely. She is all there at nearly 8 months but is hard to assess being an excitable puppy,
which is lovely to see. With practice, she could be a real contender as she is very
anatomically sound. She is a good mover & has strong rear pasterns; 3 Evans’ Rowancurl
Beachcomber, Curly Coated Retriever.
J (2): Irish Setters - litter brother & sister. 1 BAVNSC Gundog, Corless’ Swiftlark Invincible,
presents a nice picture standing & moving, brisket down to elbow, well off for bone, tight
feet, good spring of rib & bend of stifle. He is elegant & strong. Preferred his head, as well as
the flow of his neck into shoulders over his sister 2 Corless’ Swiftlark Illustrious, feminine
bitch with good bone, appeals standing with excellent depth of chest, topline & good sweep
of stifle.
PG (4): 1 S Illustrious; 2 Evans’ Kukkasen Keita by Caballus, liver Curly Coated Retriever of
nearly 3 years. Pretty head with slight stop, good bone, brisket down to elbow with lovely
spring of rib, elegant in outline, excellent neck into shoulder, good coat, stood & moved
well; 3 Seaborne’s Gwendariff It Must Be Magic, Irish Setter.
O (2): 1 G It Must Be Magic, lovely headed male, good forechest, deep chest, in good
muscular condition with lovely lustrous coat, very well balanced all through with good
angles fore & aft. Went so much better in this class once his lead was turned around the
correct way – gave more control & he looked better moving too. Handler & dog just need
more practice.
AV Imported Breed Register
O (2, 1a): 1 Best Imported Breed Register Gundog & G1, Adams’ Achouffe Philanderer,
eye-catching Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer; quite captivating. You can see the
Weimaraner ancestry – it’s that ghostly spectre appearance captured in the thick coat as
well as other traits like the aristocratic bearing – he is certainly distinguished – there is a lot
of dignity in the way he holds himself. Lovely head & amber eye, correct body ratios being
longer than tall, excellent topline & in lovely muscular condition. He is top class, & as soon
as I went over him, I knew it would take a lot to beat him in the Group. Moved well.
Delighted to award him Best Imported Breed Register Gundog & Group 1.
AV Gundog
V (5): 1 Moore’s Elgert Sweet Little Lies at Gadhelic, liver Field Spaniel, stand out winner,
not showing her age. Really pretty head, very sound & balanced both standing & moving
with excellent head carriage. Appeals in outline with level topline & correct angles fore &
aft. Excellent muscle condition over the loin & hindquarters, good coat, moved very well off
strong rear pasterns. Quality bitch; 2 Corless’ Swiftlark First Knight, Irish Setter, really
catches your eye going around the ring with his free flowing movement. Deep chest,
excellent feet, good spring of rib, well angled hindquarters. Strong rear pasterns. Would
prefer a little better flow of neck into shoulders; 3 Jones’ Lembas Faith at Serenjar,
Labrador Retriever.
GUNDOG GROUP
1 Adams’ Achouffe Philanderer, Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer
2 Bond’s Joneva Just My Style, Pointer, striking black & white male, appeals standing &
moving with good balance. He flows well, looks strong but retains elegance. Good forward
reach in side gait.
3 Moore’s Gadhelic Jennyanydots, Field Spaniel, quality liver bitch, not quite the seasoned
show pro as her veteran kennel mate, but when she settles you can see her qualities. Strong
bone but retains her femininity, good angles fore & aft.
4 Long’s Carpenny Pheya, Labrador Retriever, eye-catching so clean in outline & everything
flows, correct coat, in good muscular condition, excellent ribbing, moved well.
PUPPY GUNDOG GROUP
1 Hazlenut King Of The Truffles (Imp), Lagotto Romagnolo
2 Booth’s Lundgarth Everest, Pointer, orange & white bitch, raw at just 10 months but has a
lovely curvy shape. Pretty head, tidy feet. Just needs to fill out through the front with
maturity.
3 Jones’ Arrowbien Gin King, American Cocker Spaniel
