Herts and Essex Border Open Show 15th May 2022

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at your show and thanks to the exhibitors for your entries. We were very unlucky with the weather and it started raining just as the whippet classes began. The rain affected some more than others and therefore some places could change on another day.

Whippets

Puppy (3, 2 abs)

1. Reece’s Saleehah Stardancer. 7 month old brindle and white bitch. Stood alone today but still a worthy winner of this class and BPIB. Very feminine bitch with flowing lines. Super for size. Pretty head and alert expression. Neat rose shaped ears. Good front and hind angulation. Moved very well for her age. Pleased to see her take a place in a large Hound Puppy Group.

Junior (3, 0 abs)

1. Maxwell’s Maccus Rosa Gallica Daphne. 14 month old fawn bitch. This bitch has the prettiest of heads and a lovely expression. She is slightly taller but is still so very feminine and is of a lovely shape and outline. Well laid back shoulders and correct return of upper arm. She has the desired slight spring of pastern and well knuckled feet. Excellent topline with a matching underline. Overall very balanced and with moderately angulated hind quarters. Moves well in all directions, very sound. RBOB.

2. Wilton-Clark’s Shalfleet Chasing the Wind. 14 month old brindle and white dog. Very handsome dog with a masculine head and alert expression. Long arched neck, and with good front angulation and smooth shoulders. Good bone and feet. Presents a curvy outline with a lovely underline which is great to see on a male. Excellent profile movement and sound away and back.

Yearling (4, 0 abs)

1. Wilton-Clark’s Shalfleet Making Waves. 14 month old brindle dog. Litter brother of 2nd in Junior and many of the same comments apply. I really liked the overall outline of this dog.

2. Thomas and Halliday’s Brochinbelle Ooh La La at Bowdonia. 19 month old brindle bitch. Another with a lovely head and expression. Well balanced and with correct moderate angulation. Good for size and bone, and with good feet. Correct topline with a slight rise over the loin. Moves well in profile and sound on the away and back.

Post Graduate (6, 3 abs)

1. Hills’ Shimmeree Cool Calico. 3 year old blue bitch of the correct size. Excellent for breed type a presents a very curvy outline. She is all whippet and there’s nothing exaggerated about her. Smooth shoulders and correct flat bone, excellent topline and underline. Super sound on the away and back and moves well in profile.

2. Rayner & Booth’s Rogansrock Vital Quest. 19 month old brindle and white dog. Masculine head and a gentle expression. Good neck but would prefer more return of upper arm and infill in front. Excellent top and underline. Well muscled and correct moderate hind angulation.

Limit (7, 1 abs)

1. Thomas’ Bowdonia Colors of the Wind. 2 year old brindle and white bitch. Feminine bitch with a beautiful alert expression and rose shaped ears. Good for size and substance. Well angulated front and smooth shoulders. Correct bone, good spring of pastern and good feet. Lovely curvy topline and a matching underline. Deep chest with plenty of heart room. Strong hind quarters which she used well on the move. Moves very well in all directions.

2. Hills’ Shimmeree Black Liberty. 5 year old black and white bitch. Another bitch who is excellent for breed type and of the correct size. Very pretty head. Moderate front and hind angulation. She has the desired s-shape, with a lovely topline which she holds well on the move. Very sound.

Open (6, 1 abs)

1. Yeates and Winter’s Lolani Cafe Amore. 2 year old fawn dog. A very masculine dog who is of the correct size and with just the right amount of bone. Very balanced, with well laid back shoulders and excellent return of upper arm. Good fill in front and with a deep chest. Correct well knuckled feet and slight spring of pastern. Has an excellent very curvy underline which again is great to see on a male. Moderate hind angulation and well muscled hind quarters. Very sound on the move and moves very well in profile. BOB.

2. Wilton-Clark’s Shalfleet Bridget Jones. 2 year old brindle bitch. Very feminine and great for size. Typical head with a gentle expression and correct rose shaped ears. Long neck and smooth shoulders. Flowing lines. Good bone and feet. Presents a very curvy outline which she holds very well on the move. Moves well in all directions, and really excels in profile.
