OTLEY CANINE SOCIETY OPEN SHOW

2ND AUGUST 2022

Judge Anthony Allen

My thanks for the committee for the invitation and especially to my two stewards who kept me in order, and everything running smoothly. I was honoured to have some super dogs entered under me and I was splitting hairs in a number of the classes.

GUNDOG GROUP

This was a fabulous group full of quality and the winners really had to pull out the stops today, all first class and they could have easily swapped places. The winner was the Spanish Water Dog Sh Ch Zorrazo Quest for Success (Imp Hrv) JW Esp JCH. In runner up spot was the beautiful Weimaraner Minstergate Carnival JW, who I had awarded Best Puppy to at her very first champ show last year. Group 3 went to the very tidy Flat Coated Retriever Rodstream First Choice for Vynesbrook and Group 4 to the German Shorthaired Pointer Fayemm Treacle Tart with Winterwell (AI).

GUNDOG PUPPY GROUP

A super puppy group awaited me with lots of promising youngsters. It was headed up by the super Irish Setter Kerryfair Just Be who scored in outline and tmovement, so typical. In second place the Weimaraner Gunalt Schweppes at Calydene. In third place the Welsh Springer Spaniel Sarabande Dancing Queen at Slapestones (AI) and in fourth spot the German Shorthaired Pointer Winterwell Iggy Inch.

IRISH RED & WHITE SETTER

Puppy (3, 2 abs)

1st Coolfin Murchard. BPIB

A lovely seven month old baby, at the growing stage but has all the essentials in the right place. Head developing nicely and has a kind eye. Good through the neck into well-made front assembly. His body is developing nicely and had well bent stifles. Very puppyish on the move today but plenty of enthusiasm. Best Puppy

Post Grad (3)

1st Talintyre Winter Spice. RBOB

I really liked this two-and-half year old bitch, so full of type and quality. She has the loveliest outline on the stack, her head is feminine, broad with lovely eyes that enhance her expression. Good through the neck into well laid shoulder. Standing on good legs. Depth to her chest and ribs well sprung. Excellent hindquarters with stifles well bent. Was super on the move with an effortless gait. Only lost out to her brother for BOB as she was with a handler and just wasn’t as settled. Reserve Best of Breed.

2nd Taxus Rising Spring

Another pretty lady with a good outline, good neck into shoulders, enough depth of chest for her age. Needs to tighten in elbow a little. Good spring of rib and well-developed quarters. Not as settled on the move as the winner today.

3rd Coolfin Aoife

Open (4, 1 abs)

1st Talintyre Winter Shadow. BOB.

Litter brother to the post grad winner and has the same quality stamped through him. Super shape on him, masculine in head with a good expression. Decent front assembly on him, stands on good legs and feet. Depth to chest, ribs well sprung and good quarters, stifles well bent and hocks well let down. Moved out well with a positive free striding action. Very smart dog, my Best of Breed.

2nd Dut/Lux/Bel Ch Terne Des Coris Qalimero at Coolfin (Imp Bel) JW

Another smart dog clean outline but a shade stronger than the winner, good through the neck into well laid shoulders, good depth of chest and ribs well sprung. Stands on well boned legs and feet. Good well-developed quarters with stifles well bent. Needs to settle down on the move a little to complete the picture.

3rd T. Rising S.

SUSSEX SPANIEL

Puppy (2)

Two lovely puppies, from the same kennel so they were having fun which was great to see.

1st Saxonbejayz John Kerr. BPIB.

This chap is seven months and full of character which was great to see. He has a good head, decent stop and his skull well shaped. He is well made, with the better outline of the two. Decent angles front and back and held his shape on the move. Stands on good well boned legs and well-rounded feet. Not that coordinated on the move yet, but his tail never stopped which was great to see. Loved his attitude, my Best Puppy.

2nd Harasteorra Beta Canis at Saxonbejayz

Kennel mate to the winner, a good overall shape and type but just not as together. Also seven months. she has good overall proportions. Her head is feminine with good shape to her skull and a good stop and overall balance to give an appealing expression. Decent angles front and rear, at that growing stage and a bit bum high today and consequently lost her topline on the move. Having great fun which was the most important part.

Post Grad (3)

1st Meggamooch Xquisite Serendel

Very smart young lady who has a super shape on the stack. Feminine with plenty of substance for her age. I liked her head piece which was well balanced with a decent stop and good width to back skull. Good through the neck, in to well set shoulders, needs to tighten in elbow, good through the body, ribs developing as they should be for her age and level topline. Well angulated quarters, with a good bend of stifle. Good outline on the move, she held her shape well, has drive and good in profile, just a little untidy in front action.

2nd Eald Village Urchin

I liked this lady a lot but she didn’t bring her ‘A’ game and was rather lethargic on the move. She is three years old and has a well-developed head piece enhanced by a super eye. Good through the neck into a well-made front assembly, sloping shoulders, stands on well boned legs and round feet. Chest well developed and ribs well back. Would have liked a better finish to her croup. Quarters well developed with good muscle. Lovely rich colour to her coat with gold tips.

3rd Labry Berry Pardy (Imp Rus)

Open (3)

What a super class with three topflight exhibits, I felt really honoured to have them entered under me.

1st Sh Ch Serendel Sussex Endeavour BOB.

If memory serves me correctly, he did well under me as a puppy some years back, was great to see him in the ring as the finished article, he has matured into a super dog. Super rich golden liver colour, classic head piece with a masculine expression. Neck into shoulders is good, strong into sloping shoulders. Well made front assembly. Stands on well boned legs and good round feet. Super depth to chest and to his ribs, body well developed. Well assembled rear, great bone. Won this class on his movement, true fore and aft and plenty of drive, with a roll. Pleased to award him Best of Breed and a shortlist in a very strong group.

2nd Sh Ch/Ir Ch Bardings Bypolar Bear Ir Jun Ch CW19 CJW19 JW. RBOB.

A dog that I really like but he decided he was not going to play the game today and just wouldn’t move out with any enthusiasm. I liked his head, correct shape with super eye shape and rich golden liver colour, low set ears, which gave him a masculine expression. Strong neck into well set shoulders, legs are well-boned, and he stands on well padded feet. Good depth of chest, well ribbed up, firm in loin. Strong hindquarters which are well muscled. A really smart type of dog

3rd Eald Village Scandal JW. Completed a trio of super exhibits.

GORDON SETTER

Puppy (2)

1st Carnoustie Are You Ready Forit at Bryerdale (AI) (Imp Aus) NAF. BPIB.

Smart puppy with a lot to like about him at this age, forward in development, he has a smart outline and balanced proportions. Good angles front and rear. Head of good shape, masculine with a pleasing eye. Neck long and body well made, quarters developing nicely, stifles well bent. Decent action on the move to take the class. Coat in good condition with clear tans. Best Puppy.

2nd Caradilis Jumping Jack

Another smart puppy, eight months, very typy but not as forward as the winner in development and gave a lot away. Good overall proportions, head is attractive and masculine, should finish well. Moved out well, needs to sort out his hind action which he will do as he develops.

Jun (2, 1 abs)

1st X-Man Black Lofty at Amberlove (Imp Pol) RBOB.

This 17-month-old dog presents a very smart outline on the stack, his head is masculine of good proportions, I hope it is the finished article as I wouldn’t want it any stronger. Good reach of neck into a well assembled front, sloping shoulder and decent return of upper arm. Well boned legs, tight feet, enough depth of chest, ribs well sprung and well-developed hindquarters, stifles well bent. Lovely coat and condition and clear tans. Moved out with drive but needs to tighten in front action to complete the picture.

1st Bareve Burra Burra Lake (GWP)

This two-year-old lady is very smart on the stack with a super outline, balanced throughout. I liked her head piece which is typical, balanced proportions and a good eye shape and colour to give a feminine expression. Neck strong in to well set shoulders. Stands on well boned legs. Body well made with ribs well sprung, decent dept of chest for her age. Quarters are well made. Super harsh coat Moved out well, good action in profile, just a shade untidy behind

AV GUNDOG

Jun (27, 17 abs)

1st Highforce All or Nothing (HV)

A very impressive youngster who has come on in leaps and bounds since I last judged him. Well balanced throughout he has a super outline on the stack, his head is lean and should finish well. Clean reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Good front, elbows tightly fitting and standing on straight legs. Good depth of chest for his age and ribs well sprung. Hindquarters straight and well developed with good angulation. Well-muscled, moved out very well with a good action fore and aft and ground covering in profile.

2nd Tenfield Sparkling Sunrise (Golden Ret)

A very pretty young bitch with a lovely head and expression and excellent eye shape and colour. Strong and clean through the neck. Correct lay back of shoulder and front angulation. Standing on good legs. I liked her overall body shape, well developed forechest with good ribs for her age. Loin of correct length, quarters where they need to be in terms of development, top line correct and tail well set. Just finding her feet on the move but has attitude about her.

3rd Kalimor Summer Love (Wei)

Open (11, 3 abs)

1st Emmroche Dancer (Lagotto)

Nice type with a feminine head and expression, I liked her overall proportions and balance. Neck short which leads into well laid back shoulders, a tad short in forearm. Compact in body with breadth to her chest and short in loin. She has a decent finish to her croup and well-developed quarters with a good bend of stifle. Coat in good condition with a correct woolly texture. Won this class on movement which was free and smooth.

2nd Wensum Let’s Dance (Cocker)

13 months old red bitch who is developing nicely. I thought she was well put together and had a good merry action on the move. Her head is pleasing, with enough work, still needs to finish but should do that as she matures. Body of good proportions, with a decent spring of rib. Balanced angles front and rear.

3rd Shaymiloney Schinus Afinmore (Lab)

Veteran (14, 8 abs)

1st Sh Ch Crimbledale Seaing Stars JW (Eng Set)

What a super lady this seven and half year old orange is, I thought she was top class. So clean and balanced in outline and she just flows. She has the right amount of substance. She has the most beautiful feminine head with a dark eye, but she has a hint of mischief in her as she looks back at you. Good reach of neck which fits well into her correctly placed shoulders, balanced angles fore and aft and super body proportions. She moved so well with accuracy of footfall and grace and with an open side gait and I could not deny her Best Veteran. Thrilled to watch her later go BVIS, many congratulations!

2nd Sh Ch Vizslanya Vivmany by Highforce JW ShCM ShCEx VW (HV)

An old favourite of mine that has done well under me on many occasions, now rising eight. Today she was on top form and moved around the ring with that elegant ground covering action that I remembered. She still has that super balance that I look for and is not overdone in any way. Great to see her again.

3rd Gunalt Adoptable to Ladwey ShCM VW (Wei)
