Llanelli & DCS Open Show 10/04/2022

At last this show managed to proceed after many attempts thwarted by Covid, it was lovely to see an Open Show again in Wales. Well done to the hard working Committee on being able to pull this together. It was a little chilly on the day and a few exhibits were a little unsettled after such a long period out of the ring. But I am sure that whatever the outcome many were happy to see an Open Show being run again in Wales. Thank you to the exhibitors for bringing their Hounds under me on the day.

Hounds

AV Import Register Hound Open D or B (0,0abs)

Afghan Open (4,1abs)

1st    Hughes – Sofico Gabriella At Nantmelan;   stylish & typey veteran bitch, nice head & eye, with good angles to her front, point of wither in line with elbows and sufficient depth to body. Overall she is muscled throughout but her topline is now just dropping slightly. Sufficient length hip to hock & a free, light mover. BOB, BVIB & VG4.

2nd    Hughes – Alishan Sensa Una Donna At Nantmelan FR IMP;  notes say full on puppy having a super day out! Lovely head planes, construction flows under the hand, good length hip to hock & nicely muscled overall. Light and sound on the move, delighted to award BPIB and PG1.
3rd    Gunn & Cannon – Karagez Katina Muslom At Zushkhan Imp Rus

PBGV Graduate (2,0abs)
1st     Lewis – Tangaer Heather;  good overall shape to this smart bitch, nice in head but felt a touch more underjaw would have finished off the picture. Correct neck with width into correctly angled front, depth to body and good in topline. Stifles nicely bent and muscled and moved out soundly.
2nd    Cowley -  Probert Shirley Valentine;  sweet head and expression, sufficient neck with width but preferred the overall front angulation of the 1st. Slightly longer in body, has depth and nicely ribbed back into sufficient bend and muscle tone to stifles.
PBGV Open (3,1abs)
1st    Lewis – Tangaer Erique;  compact male with good head proportions, nice ears with good fold, good strong neck with width into well laid shoulder and upper arm. Depth & length to body, nice in coat and well ribbed back with strong rear quarters well muscled and a good bend of stifle. BOB & HG3.
2ND    Cowley – Jadestone Bonnie;  not happy today in this hall so felt that she did not give her best. Overall a good shape, nice in head and front and rear angulation but would prefer her pasterns to be slightly tighter making for cleaner movement

Beagle Junior (2,0abs)
1st    Redcap The Courier;  cobby young male, good in head of fair length and lovely expression with good shape to ears. Clean in neck of sufficient length & breadth flowing into nicely laid shoulder & good height proportions. Lovely depth of body, well ribbed back, nice in loin into well muscled thighs and turn of stifle. Little unsettled later. BOB & BPIB
2nd    Warren & Thomas – Hilbeaglin Tornado Tumbler; male more on the leg to 1st making for a less compact picture. Well proportioned head & kind expression, would prefer slightly cleaner neck into shoulder placement, good in depth of body and sufficient rear angles.
Beagle Open (3,1abs)
1st    Warren & Thomas – Ospreagle Ottoff The Press At Hilbeaglin;  veteran male of nice type, compact hound with good depth of body, nice in head and clean in neck flowing into well laid shoulder. Well ribbed back & short coupled with sufficient rear angulation and muscling for age. BVIB, RBOB & VG2
2nd    Bidey – Rimax Rio;  slightly unsettled male shortly to be approaching veteran, nice head proportions and expression and sufficient length & breadth of neck. Overall shape and front and rear angles good with sufficient depth at elbows & ribbing back. Preferred the hind movement today of the winner.

Dachshund L/H Junior (2,0abs)
1st    Lewis – Trixhund Strictly Silver;  bitch puppy of good body length to height proportions with sufficient ground clearance. Nice in head and proportions with good strong jaw, clean neck into well laid shoulder placement with good return of upper arm. Nicely ribbed back into well set croup, well muscled with correct angles in the rear. BPIB RBOB & PG4.
2nd    Lewis – Trixhund Silver Dawn; good for head proportions and jaw, sufficient neck length & width into the front assembly and ground clearance, a wee bit more length to height than 1st here, nicely ribbed back but not quite the breadth of rump to 1st.
Dachshund L/H Open (1,0abs)
1st    Lewis – Trixhund Hi De Hi JW;   have judged this lovely bitch some 2 years before, she still moves out soundly. Good in head proportions, sufficient in length of neck, good ground clearance & body to height ratio and good for bone& feet.  Correct topline into a good rear assembly with fullness and muscled, well angled turn of stifles & hocks set well. BOB & HG2
Dachshund Miniature L/H Open (4,0abs)
1st    Sheppard – Arbennick Miss Clemintine In Thystine;  headed a more difficult class here, felt that this typey bitch had a better height to length ratio overall with sufficient ground clearance and ribbing.  Nicely proportioned head with good ears, neck of sufficient length flowing into a well set front assembly.  When settled she showed a good topline flowing into her firm and muscled rear assembly. BOB
2nd    Billett – Daring Dancer Of Dwtidachs;  lovely headed bitch , very slightly longer than 1st who was let down today by her somewhat unsettled movement. Good angulation front and rear, clean in neck, good for depth of body with sufficient  ground clearance and muscled rear assembly.
3rd     Billett – Marina Abromavac Of Dwtidachs;  BPIB
Dachshund MSH Puppy (2,1abs)
1st    Lewis – Trixhund Bumblebee;  smart baby, good in head proportions and expression, clean in neck with length & strength flowing into a well laid shoulder & return of upper arm. Liked her ratio of height to length, with correct ground clearance & the forelegs set correctly to her body. Well ribbed back into nice croup and muscled rear and bend of stifle. Beaten to BPIB by her litter sister.
Dachshund MSH Junior (5,1abs)
1st    Beach – Beachdax Queen Of Hearts;  such a close decision between 1st and 2nd here with both moving out well but 1st just a touch more steady. Good for head proportions and ears into a clean neck of length and breadth.  Good front assembly and length of body with sufficient ribbing, nicely angled & muscled rear quarters and has the ground clearance.
2nd    Lewis – Trixhund Miss Honey;  much of the notes apply here to that of 1st in the Puppy class but loved the head proportions and expression here.  Clean in neck of good length flowing into a lovely front assembly, again good length to height ratio with clearance, lovely topline and moved out on good feet. BPIB & PG2
3rd    Rogers – Mynyddstud Undaunted Doll
Dachshund MSH Graduate (5, 1abs)
1st    Beach – Izia Klara Difino (Imp SVN);  typey male with good head for proportions and expression, nicely set ears. Neck of good length and strength set into a well laid front assembly. Has a moderate length back with good clearance below, nicely ribbed back but a touch longer in stifles and croup, well muscled & moved out soundly. RBOB
2nd    Beach – Beachdax Diamond Diva;  a close decision between the two as felt that this bitch maintained her topline slightly better on the move and was a tad better ribbed back. When stacked I felt that she just lacked the front assembly of 1 although she too was of moderate length with perhaps a slightly better rear assembly.
3rd    De Lacey – Gellijams Midnight Lady Of Mabeldax.
Dachshund MSH Open (4,1abs)
1st    Lewis – Trixhund Bring Me Luck;  two nice males headed this class  but felt that the back proportions and front movement of the 1st were slightly better. I liked the head shape and planes, sufficiently clean neck into a well laid front, forearms set correctly and sufficient ground clearance. Well ribbed back into firm & muscled rear assembly with good stifles. BOB
2nd    Beach – Riowood Arizona JW ;  good overall package, good in head and neck flowing into a nicely laid front assembly, well ribbed back but a touch longer in loin to 1st.  Has the ground clearance and good topline flowing into a muscled rear with well set hocks.
3rd     Mathias – Siouxline Gemima Of Dapperdax;  BV & VG3
Dachshund MWH Junior (3, 1abs)
1st    Howells – Fallowmill Miss Range Rover;  smart bitch not long out of puppy, lovely head proportions and expression. Good neck flowing into a well laid front assembly, well ribbed back and back of moderate length in proportion to height. Nice rounded rear flowing into well muscled quarters with well set hocks. RBOB
2nd    Rose – Ridanflight Renata;  puppy bitch who just needs to fill & settle into her frame a wee bit more yet. Good in head planes, sweet expression but really wanted to stand into her neck at times just spoiling her overall picture here. Good overall angulation and type, time is on her side. BPIB
Dachshund MWH Graduate (1,0abs)
1st    Hampson – Ukrtaksapark Indian To Suiasa IMP;  slightly different type and maturity, nice in head with depth to her jaw, sufficient length and breadth of neck into the front assembly. But just felt that the length of ribbing could have been a tad more and the overall picture a little more balanced.
Dachshund MWH Open (3,2abs)
1st    Rose & Blackburn – Stargang Pot Of Gold At Ridanflight (AI);  smart male from his lovely proportioned head, neck of length & strength, flowing into a well laid front assembly with forelegs set correctly under the body. Good topline, well ribbed back, nice height to length ratio and strong and rounded rear leading to muscled stifles set correctly which he used well on the move. Delighted to award BOB, HG1 & later he took RBIS
Deerhound Open (1,0abs)
1st    Owen & Brodie – Wolfcastle Soul Sister; although she stood alone she was a very worthy winner here and so light on the move with very little effort. Nice in head and expression, good length and breadth of neck flowing into her good front assembly. Good in topline and well ribbed back, lovely shape to tuck up and sufficient loin into curvy rear quarters. Would just prefer a wee bit more muscling behind to finish the picture. BOB & HG4
Rhodesian Ridgeback Open (2,0abs)
1st    McKenna – Kiromol Hot Cocoa(AY3);  two young males here, one a puppy and one not long out of puppy. Felt that this lad just had the edge overall although just a wee bit lighter in substance to 2nd. Lovely head planes and a good length neck which just needs to strengthen a wee bit more. Good front assembly, well ribbed back, good underline and good rear assembly although a touch more second thigh muscling needed I feel. Moved out well. BOB & BPIB PG3
2nd    Broderick- White Lightening Blue;  as already stated a little separating these two males, just felt that 1st had a touch better front assembly although liked this lads rear quarters. Nice in head and expression, strong neck, good for bone and feet, nicely ribbed back and muscled quarters. RBOB
Saluki Graduate (1,0abs)
1st    Smithson – Chisobee Faa Ig Farraar;  nice overall shape to this bitch and was built to move well but she was a little reluctant as has not been shown much recently. Long, narrow head, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, back reasonably broad with good depth but just dropping her topline at times. Rear quarters nicely muscled with good stifles. RBOB

Saluki Open (3,1abs)
1st    Bleakley – Ulmarra Sapphire;  really liked the type of this bitch, very curvy and so light on the move. Long narrow head and correct ears, long neck with muscling set into a well laid front assembly. Back was fairly broad with a long and deep brisket and a curvy underline. Curvy rear quarters with moderate stifles and good for muscle tone. BOB
2nd    Smithson – Sunnusteins Safaniyah Jamil Chisobee (IMP ISL)(AU1);  male of slightly heavier type throughout, very well presented and in lovely muscle tone. Nice in head and good ears, reasonable length to neck and lay of shoulder, good in depth of body but would prefer a touch more curves to the underline. Moderate stifles used well on the move.
AV Hound Puppy (7, 5abs)
1st    Lewis – Trixhund One One Eight;  Dachs SLH, headed this class of two very raw babies but felt that this one excelled on movement here especially in the front. Lovely head and expression, nice ear set and sufficient length & breadth of neck flowing into a well laid front assembly. Good topline held on the move and good length of back with sufficient ground clearance. For age, nice firm rear quarters with nicely set hocks.
2nd    Owen & Brodie – Wolfcastle Heart’N Soul;  Typey Whippet bitch who was in a hurry to show herself and move around the ring sadly spoiling her movement somewhat today. Still at a tender age, she needs to drop more into her frame yet and let her front settle back a bit more. Good in head and length of neck, she has the curves below and a good topline which will be helped to firm up as she matures. Good for bend & width across of stifle and a lovely size.
AV Hound Veteran (6,0abs)
1st    Gunn & Cannon – LUX CH Amal Salang Hey I’m The Star At Zushkhan; Afghan bitch with a lovely long head, lovely jaws and the most aloof expression on her raised head. Neck of length and good strength into a well set back and long shoulder, good upper arm and the elbows well set. Correct length of back with firmness and muscling, good depth and ribbing and nice fall away to the stern. Good length hip to hock and lovely turn of stifle used well on the move. VG1
2nd    Bowman-Davies – Timshaws Moon Dust;  Dachs MLH bitch, such a sweet head and expression but good depth of jaw. Sufficient in neck length, well laid front assembly, lovely topline, well ribbed back and sufficient ground clearance & curvy underline. Rear assembly set well and good feet, moved out well.
3rd    Lewis – Ch Trixhund Euphoria JW ShCM SHCEX.
