Coventry & District Gundog Society

Coventry Gundog 3rd Dec 2022 – Flatcoated Retrievers Judge Mrs Alex Newton

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge. And a big thank you to everyone who entered, I had some lovely dogs with beautiful temperaments as I would expect from this breed. The ring we had unfortunately wasn’t very big and the floor was slippy so movement was sometimes difficult to assess but the quality of the entry made up for this. Over the moon that my BOB went on to win BIS.

Puppy (6,2)

1. Tagg’s Oiyou Double Espresso. Absolutely loved this 8mth old puppy bitch. She is exactly as a puppy should be and what I was looking for. Loved her size. Pretty one-piece moulded head with a dark eye and kind expression. Excellent length of neck into well laid shoulders, one of the best fronts of the day. Superb feet and ample bone. In good coat for her age. She held her topline on the stand and on the move and carried her tail well. Moderate turn of stifle into well let down hocks. On the move she excelled with drive and purpose. I look forward to watching her mature. BP

2. Colson’s Windyhollows Ragged Robin. Nearly 1yr old male in superb coat. He had the sweetest character which made me smile. Beautiful head with a kind dark eye. Good length of neck but preferred the front of 1. Excellent bone and tight feet. Lovely level topline and he carried his tail well. Moderate turn of stifle and correct length of hock. Moved well but the ring size prevented him from his full potential.

3. Joyce’ Stranfaer One Fell Swoop

Junior (9,0) A strong class with dogs at differing ages and stages of maturity. Some promising youngsters.

1. Collins’ Telurn Falling In Love With Steeplehouse. At just a year old this bitch caught my eye in a strong class. She has a beautiful clean outline. Loved her size. Super pretty head with a dark eye and kind expression. Excellent length of neck into well laid shoulders. Good depth of chest into tucked up loin. Excellent topline and tailset. In good coat. Superb rear angulation which she used to drive round the ring effortlessly. Loved her and considered her for top honours. Another one to watch.

2. Colson’s Windyhollows Ragged Robin.

3. Pingree’s Telurn Final Attraction Among Heatheridge

Yearling (6,1)

1. Goulette’s Selloana Luna Eclipse At Bobbinmill. She is such a pretty girl with a lovely moulded on-piece head and kind dark eye. Lovely length of neck into well placed shoudlers Good for bone, her feet could have been tighter. A little out of coat but this showed her construction. Would prefer more weight on her. Well balanced with a moderate turn of stifle. She moved well round the ring and her presence won her this class.

2. Stevenson’s Feldkirk Rose N Roses. Loved this bitch but she wasn’t doing herself any favours today. Pretty head and kind expression. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders, Excellent topline and tailset. Moderate turn of stifle and hocks well let down. Slightly longer cast than 1. She moved well but not showing herself well. I was nit-picking to choose between these two bitches, they could easily change places on another day.

3. Warrington’s Woodavens Water Valet

Graduate (3,0)

1. Wise’s Dileascu Midnight Dream. This bitch is just lovely. At 3yrs old she is in her prime. Loved her size and balance. Such a pretty head with a kind dark eye. Superb length of neck into excellent shoulders. Good bone and excellent tight feet. In fabulous coat. Correct topline and tailset. Strong short loin with her length coming from her ribs as it should. Moderate turn of stifle into well let down hocks. It was on the move that she showed all her construction off with ease and balance. Pleased to award her RBOB.

2. Colson’s Windyhollows Ragged Robin.

3. Stevenson’s Caci’s Born To Be Miss Universe (IMP SWE)

Post Graduate (3,1)

1. Barnett’s Steelriver Echo Beach At Annbecks. I really liked this bitch but she did not like the floor today. I couldn’t overlook her construction. She is a very pretty bitch with a lovely one-piece moulded head. Excellent length of neck and excellent front construction. Good depth of chest and short loin. Lovely bone and excellent feet. Her coat lay flat with sufficient furnishings. Moderate turn of stifle and hocks well let down.

2. Harrison’s and Blakemore’s Blacktoft Diamonds Forever. Larger bitch than 1. Good head with lovely dark eye. Lovely length of neck but preferred the front of 1. Excellent topline and tailset. Good bone and tight feet. Correct depth of chest. Moderate turn of stifle. She moved well.

Open (6,2)

1. Phipps-Baker’s and Baker’s Never Say Never Oasis Of Peace To Maddouse (IMP CZE). This bitch was exactly what I was looking for adored her. A lovely size with a melting expression and kind eye. Excellent length of neck into the best of front construction. Correct depth of chest that led to short-coupled loin. Good turn of stifle and her hocks were well let down. Her character showed through with her ever wagging tail. On the move she did not disappoint and moved with drive and purpose. When free stood she made a beautiful outline. Could not deny her BOB and I was over the moon that she went on to win BIS.

2. Bellamy’s Bochilbarley Blue Moon (AI). This dog optimises a flatcoat. He has a beautiful head and kind expression with a lovely dark eye. Excellent length of neck into a superb front assembly. Sufficient bone and the tightest of feet. Excellent topline and tailset. Correct length with short coupling. Excellent rear and straight hocks. One the move he was lovely to watch. Wish I would have had a best dog award as he was most definitely the best male on the day. Loved him.

3. Pingree’s Calzeat Gentleman’s Agreement To Heatheridge JW (IMP SWE)
