Richmond Dog Show Society

Breed: Whippet

WHIPPET CRITIQUE RICHMOND September 10th 2022

Firstly, thanks to Richmond Championship Show for inviting me to judge whippets at their show, plus special thanks to my stewards Mitzi & Liz for keeping my ring running to perfection. I was really pleased with my entry of 173. I feel humbled to say the least to all the exhibitors who entered under me & gave me the opportunity to go over their lovely whippets. The classes were well filled, in some classes, some good examples of the breed were left cardless. I had the most wonderful day & was absolutely delighted when my BCC & BOB won the Hound Group and my BPIB went on to win the Puppy Group & Best Puppy In Show, congratulations to both.

On the downside, the ring was testing to say the least, on a slope & not very wide. Overall, the whippets and their owners coped very well.

VD (5) 1st Johnston, Ch Danluke Lord Of The Dance JW. What a lovely start to the day. Pale brindle dog on excellent form, have always liked this dog & was delighted to be able to go over him. Handsome head, long neck into a well laid shoulder, good for bone & neat feet, sweeping under & topline leading to a strong well-made rear. He stood over a lot of ground & moved effortlessly. A stylish exhibit I happy to award BVIB. 2nd Griffith, Pelyma Dashing Duke JW. Fawn/white parti, long neck into a correct front assembly, matching top & underline, strong rear & adequate second thigh. Stood over the ground & moved well viewed from all angles. Just preferred the length & profile movement of my winner. 3rd Byron, Padstian Pip In New York

MPD (8,1) 1st Barkas, Citycroft Line Of Duty. Very pleasing fawn youngster. This has to be one of my finds of the day. He really appealed for size, shape & make. The most attractive of heads, long neck leading into a correct front with infill. Depth to elbow which are well set under the shoulder, sweeping underline & topline, neatly developed unexaggerated rear. Moved extremely well for one so young. What a cracking puppy & lucky owner. I liked him a lot & wish him a bright future. 2nd Bowrey, Lukatan All Of Me NAF, dark brindle, substantial puppy of quality. Good head, long neck into a well laid shoulder, good for depth, length of ribbing & strong rear quarters. His movement needs time to settle but saw just enough to award him 2nd in this class, he would benefit from more training. 3rd Mycroft & Mycroft, Supeta's Snap Crackle NPop

PD (2,1) 1st Wheeler, Ranveli Diki Diki. Brindle youngster of quality, perfect size & nothing exaggerated, handsome head & expression, long neck into a correctly angled front assembly, with depth to elbow & good length of ribbing. Stood over the ground well & moved on a long easy stride keeping his topline. I was pleased to award him BPD & BPIB. Later he went on to win the Puppy Group & Reserve Best Puppy In Show. I was delighted for his owner, congratulations. 2nd Knowles, Kuriwao Rocco. Brindle/white, 6 month old youngster enjoying his day out. Long neck into a well laid shoulder, good return of upper arm. Moved ok, needs to mature all through. More training would be of benefit.

JD (5) 1st Perkins & Van Der Schaaf, Creme Anglaise's Just Julian With Silkridge. Brindle. Just loved this unexaggerated youngster, he has ring presence in abundance. Good for size & stood over plenty of ground, typical head & expression, long neck into a correct front assembly, good for depth, length of ribbing & a sweeping underline & strong rear quarters. He was foot perfect in his movement & held his topline which gave him the edge over the 2nd, I was pleased to award him the RDCC. 2nd Dillon & Bailey, Collooney Eat My Shorts At Runforest JW. Brindle. Another quality, stylish exhibit who shows himself well. Pleasing head & expression, long neck into a well laid shoulder, slightly longer cast than the winner, his movement was effortless in profile, I’m sure he will keep troubling the best. 3rd Webber, Denimblue Willdo JW
