Paignton & District Fanciers' Association

Breed: Pastoral Group

A big thank you to the committee of Paignton for their invitation and for providing near perfect dog showing weather for the day. The light in the BIS tent was so much better than in the old indoor ring, and I think dogs generally prefer showing outside on grass, to being inside noisy halls. It was a large group, and I shortlisted 8 for closer inspection.

The group winner was the Tervueren bitch Ch Domburg Made by Hawksflight, the top spot just could not be denied to this outstanding bitch, who never put a foot wrong in the ring. She has that special ring presence which draws you to her, and on close inspection she does not disappoint. Her alertness and presence show off the proud head carriage and length of neck. She is lovely to handle, graceful lines, beautiful coat condition. Her excellent conformation shows through her movement, so true from all direction, with the brisk stride and light footedness, she certainly did not put a foot wrong today.

G2 the Beauceron, Overhills Double Impact, strong bult bitch of good height, loved her head proportions and planes. She has a lovely demeanour, oozing confidence. Well muscled quarters and stands four square. Was really impressed with her on the move, effortless and so sound and true, the big ring really giving her opportunity to get into good length of stride.

G3 the Cardigan corgi, Ch Pietra Of Trefilio Borntobe Avalanche JW, strong but feminine, with an alert all-knowing expression. Head so typical with classic fox-like proportions. Good strength of bone and is well angulated. Covers ground well on move, sound throughout and with plenty of reach.

G4 – the Shetland sheepdog, Rannerdale Queen Of The Dark, beautiful clear tricolour, elegant in outline, Super head, with the correct ear & eye placement giving such a lovely expression. Good strength to rump and lovely croup. Moves very freely and soundly.

Also shortlisted were the Finnish Lapphund - Ch Glenchess Gregory, the OES - Zottels Just As Nice At Lammorick, the Norwegian Buhund - Ch Koromandel Best Served Cold at Knytshall and the winner of the Import Register, the Picardy - Stardust Halo Dolce Of Xanadu's Aria For Enzotica.
