BOSTON & DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY CHAMPSHIP SHOW

7 JANUARY 2022 GUNDOG DAY - IRISH SETTERS

Firstly, I have to thank this stalwart committee for their sterling work on the organisation of this show during such difficult times. Serving on a committee is hard work at the best of times. Thanks to Stewards Mr Jim Murdoch & Mrs Helen Hards, thank you for making my day so enjoyable. I was so thrilled to be asked to judge at this prestigious show, shame so many absentees as I would’ve loved to have seen them, but in today’s climate of uncertainty was not surprising. I would like to thank each and every one of you for entering under me, was an absolute privilege on my part. I was surprised to see a few incorrect bites, fortunately no under or over, but 3-4 that were suspiciously level. My first appointment in my beloved breed, and I was thrilled my BOB won the Gundog Group from an extremely strong group. So happy that I stayed to watch. Many Congratulations.

DOGS

MPD

1ST CLONAGEERA TOUCH OF CLASS TAF (MRS P & MISS C J RUTHERFORD & PRANGLE)

Stood alone, really liked this young boy a lot, excellent conformation, with substance. Handsome balanced head with soft expression, such good bone all through, straight front with good sternum, well ribbed up, good depth of chest, good top line held on the move. Presented a pleasing racy outline, and in superb condition. Only gave way to maturity and finish.

PD

1ST LOCHLORIEN NO OFFENCE JULESET (MISS J & MR D GREENAN & HOPEWELL)

Pleasing balanced head, so well off for bone all through, so strong throughout, straight front, elbows well let down and beautifully tucked in, well ribbed up. Good front and fore-chest with good depth of chest. Enough angulation fore and aft to allow steady rear movement… When it came to BP, won on his firmer top line due to maturity. Handled extremely well BP.

2ND SWIFTLARK INVINCIBLE (MISS S S CORLESS)

Exhibitor had difficulty handling, eventually settling; Pleasant balanced head, with kind expression, good length of neck, shoulders not as good as 1, being a tad wider and heavier. Good depth of fore-chest, well ribbed up and good tail set, strong hindquarters, not the raciness of 1. Moved well.

JD

1ST BLUEBYEYOU LOVE AFFAIR AT DERRYDORE (MRS D A MURRAY) Rugged type with pleasing head, broader skull than I would like, correct eye shape, good length of neck, well laid-back shoulders, although a bit lumpy. Well-constructed strong boned boy, balanced with no exaggerations. Deep chest and well sprung ribs. Strong hind quarters, with good width of thigh. Moved soundly tail carriage carried well.

2ND SWIFTLARK INVINCIBLE (MISS S S CORLESS)

1ST QUENSHA TAKE A BOW (MR P, MR G & MRS A BOTT, ALLEN & MORGAN

Loved this boy when first seeing him beginning of last year and was not disappointed on going over him today. Love his overall size, type and balanced racy outline, gorgeous masculine head, clean neck and shoulders with firm top-line leading to strong hindquarters. Super coat condition, with rich dark colouring. So stylish and moving steadily and soundly around the ring. One I’m sure for top honours, pleased to award him RCC.

2ND ORLANSET MANDOLIN (MR D & MRS K M HEMMINGS), Eye catching elegant racy type with the most handsome of heads. I preferred the front and length of neck of 1. Not as mature as 1, however this boy presents a pleasing outline, just needs time, good potential for the future.

3RD BLAZING BRONZE JOIN THE CHASE (IMP NLD) (MRS K A TYE)

RES BRINARA COUNTRY BOY (MRS B MRS L BERRY, MORRIS & FITZMAURICE)

1ST BLUESPRINGS NOW I’M HERE AT FORESTFIRE (MRS L RICHARDSON) Lovely racy boy who is full of quality. Long lean head with a quizzical expression, low set ears and neck is well arched and of good muscular length. Good depth of chest, well sprung ribs carried well back to a muscular loin. Well bent stifles, feet could be neater. Good tail set which was carried correctly on the move, his movement was straight and true, really liked him.

2ND BARDONHILL YOU DON’T FOOL ME (MRS S E DAVISON). Have judged this boy before at Open level. Pleasing head, good neck and shoulders, preferred the length in back of 1, presented in gleaming condition, moved well.

1ST GWENDARIFF I’M COMON OUT JW (MRS L MUIR), I just love this boy’s gorgeous head and expression, with correct eye shape and colour, for me he epitomises the standard on the head for our breed. No exaggeration with this boy, there are some these days, becoming far too big and rangy, rangy is not racy; perfectly balanced for his size, good straight front, with good lay back of shoulder with gentle sloping top line, good rib and strong in loin. Short hocks and lovely tight feet. Handled to perfection as always. He’s lovely to go over and in great condition today. Love him for his breed type, moved well. Thrilled to have the opportunity and honour to award him his well-deserved third CC.

2ND GWENDARIFF LUCY’S LEGACY (MISS S ROFFEY)

Another top draw dog, elegant and beautifully put together, preferred head on 1. Presents a lovely outline and has matured well. Excels in fore and aft angulations. Good length of neck, well-placed laid-back shoulder, good deep chest. Moved very well.

1ST SH.CH.RIVERBRUE ALCHEMIST AMIDST KESPAS JW (MR K & P STOCKTON)

Have loved this boy since junior, oozes breed type, he has the most gorgeous head, balanced with a soft expression, yet retains his masculinity. Straight front, deep chest, good arch to neck, good layback of shoulder, which flows cleaning into a slightly sloping top-line, held on the move, strong well angulated hind quarters. Powered around the ring showing good reach, driving off strong hocks. As always so well handled to bring out the best.

2ND SH.CH.GWENDARIFF UCAN’TMISSME BONHOMIE (MRS S E EDWARDS)

Love this boy and was so close up to my winner. Loved him as a puppy and has now reached his earlier potential in maturity, did not disappoint on going over him today. Has all the qualities of 1. Masculine head, clean through the neck and well-placed shoulders. I just preferred the head of my winner. Thank you so much for bringing him.

1ST STARATLANTA ELLIOTT SHCM (MISS S & MISS N A TAPPER & ROSIE)

Beautifully presented on this day, he is larger than I like, however, is balanced and sound all through, loved his typical balanced head, I thought he looked really well today; shown in lovely coat condition. Excellent outline, moved out steadily. BVD.

2ND MILLCROFT CHASE THE MOON TO SHANOAH (MRS S FOSTER) not as racy as my winner, however, has a lovely balanced head, dark eye, kind expression, good fore-chest, built on stockier lines than 1, he was happy enough on the move, but I feel just beginning to show his age now.

1ST DEEVONVILLE SANTANA SHCM (MRS D G HEPPELL) Masculine head with kind eye, good length of neck. Straight front, deep chest, strong boy all through with good width of thigh, correct tail-set and nice short hocks. Moved well with a good tail action.

2ND SANDSTREAM WELCOME BREEZE JW SHCM (MISS S WATERTON) This girl is so feminine in every way, beautiful balanced head and so well made. A cliché I know but I really was splitting hairs with these two. At this late stage in her life this is the best I’ve seen her move as she was so happy.

1ST NIGSETT SKYFALL (MR N NAYLOR)

What a scrumptious little poppet, hopefully enjoying her early days of showing. I loved her breed type, such a pretty head. Straight front, with elbows well tucked in, shoulders well laid back, lovely slope to her top-line held on the move, good length in loin. She was steady and controlled and was pleased to see that she was more confident in movement. She nearly lost her first place at the end, as she became a little tense when stacked, and had lost her top-line. Shows promise.

2ND RIVERBRUE SNOOZEULOSE (AI) (MR B A CROCKER)

Different type to my winner, longer cast, built on racier lines. Lovely balanced head, straight front, neat feet good top line, but would prefer more of a gentle slope. Good front assembly, balanced overall, perfect tail set for me, moved happily and sound. Also showing great promise.

3RD SETTERSAY SAPPHIRE (MISS V JARVIS)

PB

1ST LOCHLORIEN UNFORGOTTEN (MR G & MRS C STEVENSON)

Beautiful outline on this baby, feminine head, good length of neck over clean well laid-back shoulders, good top-line, substantial girl well off for bone with great potential, enough width of thigh at this stage. Stylish on the move. Shows promise for the future.

2ND SWIFTLARK ILLUSTRIOUS (MRS S S CORLESS) She has a nice head with lovely soft expression, I just preferred the head of 1. Good angulations front and rear. Ribs well sprung with strong hindquarters. Moved steadily and sound.

1ST KERRIMERE RED RIBBON JW (MR J E SHARMAN & JENNINGS -SHARMAN)

Feminine head and soft expression, Good straight front, slight slope to top-line, set on of tail is OK. Would prefer more bend in stifle and width of thigh. She is lighter in colour than I like and needs more coat to finish. She moved really well on small neat feet.

2ND TWOACRES DESTINY (MRS G KENNEDY-SLOANE). I liked this girl very much, but 1 just had the edge on movement. Pleasing feminine head, Clean over neck and shoulders, good slope to top-line, good spring of ribs, moved out well.

3RD HARREDS SOPHIE AT DANBRYELI (MR A & MRS P A ADAMS)

LB

This was another strong quality class with some beautiful bitches, some were unfortunately down the line.

1ST RIVERBRUE CLOUDBURST OVER STRATHMEAD (MRS J & MISS H FRAMPTON & PIGGIN) What a picture of elegance this girl presented, her head is balanced, long and lean, such a quizzical intelligent expression, almost saying, what can I get up to now! Well arched and good length of neck, enough angulation in her forequarters, a straight front, so clean over shoulders with continuous flow into top-line, tail set is spot on, excels in hindquarters, lovely tight feet. Shown in excellent condition. An absolute pleasure to award her well-deserved RCC.

2ND GWENDARIFF LILY THE PINK (MISS L BOUGAN) Have always loved this elegant girl, and much applies to her as my winner, beautiful head, clean neck and shoulders, straight front, I just preferred the top line of my winner. Deep chest well ribbed up and correct tail set, moved off with drive straight and true.

3RD TWOACRES PROMISE OF SPRING WITH AVACET (MRS M ELKINS), really liked this compact balanced unexaggerated honest girl. Different type to my first 2. Feminine head, lovely dark eyes and a good length of neck, well laid-back shoulders good fore-chest and a straight front. Super mover, with drive and reach.

OB

Lovely class, all were full of quality.

1ST SH.CH. RIVERBRUE GLORIANA (MR B A CROCKER) A girl in superb condition, presented a wonderful outline. She is obviously adored and it shows in her willingness and performance for her owner. Head is so feminine with lovely raised brows and correct shaped dark eye, low set neatly folded ears, neck is muscular yet not overdone, flows into well placed shoulders good straight front with pronounced sternum, deep chest, well ribbed up, and firm top line, so good over the croup and perfect tail-set for me. Strong wide rear hindquarters, neat feet. At the peak of her prime, she was so happy and moved with drive off her hocks with great enthusiasm round the ring. I had the greatest of pleasure in awarding her the bitch CC & BOB. To top off my first time in giving CC’s in my adored breed, my BOB won Gundog Group 1, under well-respected judge Mrs Gill Peake, from an outstanding Gundog Group.

2ND SH.CH. GWENDARIFF UP TO SOMETHIN (MRS L MUIR) I really loved this girl. Feminine head, with lovely soft expression. Balanced all through with correct sloping top-line, good tail set with strong hindquarters. Shown in hard condition and she moved off soundly.
