WINDSOR CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

Portuguese Podengos

A nice numerical entry but, as so often, quite a few absent.

V (1) 1 Wedge’s Stormwitch Macadamia at Rioccajen, almost 10 and in great form, distinctly masculine, quality well proportioned head, dark obliquely set eyes, correct ear shape, reasonable front, sufficient forechest, OK neck, good topline, moderate rear angles, moved smartly with good tail carriage, true coming and going, kept his online going round, good coat texture which helped win him BD, nice to see he is the sire of BOB. JD (1), withdrawn, first time out and hope he gets the hang of things as has much promise. LD (1) 1 Pearson & Wedge’s Stormwitch Heart And Soul at Nashnall, appealing overall type, well proportioned head, good eyes, could use his ears a shade more, OK bone, would prefer rounder feet, enough neck, could have a shade more scope standing but looked better on the move, true both ways and retained his topline. OD (2) 1 Sampson & Brooks’ Morialta Ferreira, typy boy I’ve admired previously, super head, well set eyes, ears carried well, correct length of neck, reasonable front, good height to length balance, topline better moving than standing, sound both ways, happy showman. Close decision for BD, preferred different aspects of each, this one has a fraction more leg but winner’s coat was harsher today; 2 Watts & Pedder’s Houla’s American Boy, another classy Podengo with much to admire, laid back smooth boy with a super body and topline, well muscled and correctly angulated hindquarters, steady mover going round retaining his shape. Preferred expression and ears of 1 who moved a shade truer in front.

JB (1) 1 Brundle’s Brundledean Giovana, 14 months and obviously needs time to fill out her frame but already has a certain extra something in style and personality. OK head, good eyes, ears of correct size and shape and well carried, neck in proportion to her body and flows into an ideal topline, super shape and balance with enough leg, sufficient hind angulation, looked a picture going round, carrying herself proudly and stepping out with verve, couldn’t resist her for BOB. Good luck for the future. PGB (1) Sampson’s Morialta Sesmarias, vocal girl full of her own importance, feminine head with good skull to muzzle proportions, well placed ears, enough neck, slightly more compact type than some, front could be firmer but very good hindquarters, another whose topline was better going round than standing still - guess it makes sense that such an active little working breed should look its best on the move. LB (3) 1 Segui’s Stormwitch Heirs And Graces at Arranbourne, pretty feminine girl of a slightly longer balance, appealing head, good front and feet, OK neck and topline, a shade shallow in body, moved OK in front, slightly close behind, OK going round; 2 Watts’ Almanor Winter Star, liked this smooth a lot, excellent ears, good neck and shoulder, reasonable front, shapely body, could be a shade stronger behind. Didn’t really use herself on the move, or might have done better; 3 Folds’ Arranbourne Galenia. OB (2) 1 Sampson’s Odisseia de Viamonte at Morialta, looking very well at 8 years, good feminine head with well carried ears, reasonable front, the right amount of substance, again her topline levelled out on the move, sound and cheerful. RBB; 2 Watts’ Caldermist Carina, sturdy 10 year old with excellent bone and substance, typical head, OK front, super angles, particularly strong hindquarters. Lifted her front feet a little on the move, not quite in the bloom of 1 but on her day could still be a contender.
